I said in another comment - that if more people start time travelling, then it will dilute the plot's main USP, and also wouldn't their time travel affect Im Sol's? Or are we creating a web of time travel series.
I am thinking of this show - like the brilliant anime movie - Your Name, and so there two people switched, but time travel instance was minimum. Unless makers of Lovely Runner are also gunning for something like the German show - Dark, or Taiwanese drama - Someday/One day ... then cannot say.

But yes now reading your comment - and the fact that this is a very common trope in dramas, how some years pass - but old lovers unite etc. Plus this is from the same webtoon writer as True Beauty - and we know what happened there in Ep 14 and onwards, so you never know what began as few months could turn into years.
And that would be some serious bad luck or rather how fate works - that no matter what you do, what is written in your fate/destiny will occur. It can be pushed by a few years/sometime, but will happen in some form or the other.
And if that is the case - I have this bad feeling that Im Sol will sacrifice herself. Like she will not die - but she will again lose the use of her legs. Sun Jae will live and they will unite - but the cost of his life would be her legs. That would be sad too.
Honestly I just want them to have a clean, beautiful - everyone is healthy and happy kind of ending.

Hmm - inconspicuous cause he is trying to track the taxi driver. That is what I thought.
And why they added this part - cause earlier Tae Sung was a delinquent and he did not have any relationship with Sun Jae or Im Sol. They were strangers for him, a forgotten memory of high school.
But now the timeline has altered - he may have not stayed in touch, but he knows Sun Jae and Im Sol, and cares for them on a friendly level. Plus given he has turned around his life - he would have become closer to the father (detective). So call it his hunch - that when he heard the taxi driver has been released he came to check on Im Sol.
Also, in present - the detective admits, once Sun Jae is stabbed and he meets Im Sol in cafe to talk about the 2009 case. He admits that they thought the taxi driver would come at Im Sol, but why Sun Jae perplexed him too. Maybe he voiced this at home, and Tae Sung heard him and hence came to check on Im Sol?

2. Just a jab - or rather a roundabout way to make him go to rehab, since it is for the better. So in a way. Tae Sung is saying there is nothing between him and Im Sol - but he will protect her. So Sun Jae can go in peace and sort himself out and be back.
At this point - Tae Sung is like your guardian SML. And this is just a trailer, so there could be some context prior to this statement he makes.
