I should add that I don't actually know that many Thai ppl and that my husband would be the one to ask because he can usually nail which Asian ethnicity someone is from by looking at them. I can sometimes guess but its hard... Like that kid I met this weekend, I thought he was Viet but he wasn't, he was Thai.
I can usually tell if someone is Southeast Asian but Lao ppl for example are a bit hard to tell apart. I met a Lao guy once who I thought was a latino x asian but it turns out he was 100% Lao.
So that's why I always say "to me" because who knows... I married into a southeast asian family and I have been with my husband for 12 years so what I see may be heavily influenced by that.
Like I think I no longer see someone eyes and go like, "oh your eyes look Asian" or the reverse... LOL IDK I have a hard time now with that... I think Mew's eyes are just regular asian eyes, nothing I haven't seen before. Same thing with Gulf. But I have to look really hard to tell if someone has a "double eye lid" or not because my brain no longer scans for that feature...
Its hard to explain it :) I also watch a lot of Asian dramas like you guys so I think that also colors our views.
We probably need an outsider's perspective !!!
And with me and my nose theory well, that goes back to a good friend of mine who is filipino and he told me he could tell people's ethnic background by looking at the nose. And I think he is onto something. I may not be the best at it like he was but I do think that Asians x Caucasians often have a less flat face and less flat nose. Also the "roman nose" hints at a European ancestry... But you are right, this is not a hard rule.
I just personally think that looking at the eyes is not a very good way to tell. And that's my main point! I just have seen too much variation in that feature to think its useful at all. Mew's eyes are 100% Asian and I don't see anything abnormal about them!

Lol I am married into a Southeast Asian family so I may be blinded by it. I just met a Thai kid (friend of my nephew on my husbands side) and he didnt look anything like the guys in the dramas we watch (maybe a bit like Techno?).
Oh, the nose thing is true here in the USA for almost all Asian groups!!! You can tell if someone is mixed by looking at their noses I swear!!!!

You know I can see what you are saying but for me I see Gulf as looking less "thai" than Mew. But Mew has some mixed features. Maybe not American but could be something else for sure.

I know plenty of folks from that part of the world and I would say that like any other ethnicity, their is a lot of variation in traits such as eye shape etc.
