So you have never watched a drama were a character hates the other character for a little while then they fall…
My husband's niece loves K dramas and she loved Meteor Garden 2018. I did watch it and was really excited in the beginning but I dropped it after about 25 episodes. I will finish it one day but yeah, I am not too crazy about how C-dramas portray women or the men they like.
I haven't watched Ep 7 yet but Ep 6 felt like a really nice fluffy, feel-good episode that just gave me the good feels. In the one scene when Type comes back from his "date" (won't spoil here for anyone so that's all I am saying), what he said to Tharn really got me in my kokoro. IDK why but it was a great scene. Then later when he is talking to Tharn in bed the next day (?), and he does what he does, that was so cute and special.
Anyway, I guess my point is this show is now reminding me of the good feels I had when I watched Love Sick so this is a good thing. :) This is why I watch Thai BL!
the actors have great chemistry, but sadly i find the premise of the show more unrealistic and problematic than…
So you have never watched a drama were a character hates the other character for a little while then they fall in love?
Wow, if you hate this enough to drop it, then you should never watch a J-drama. The male tsunderes in those shows are assholes to the max power. Naoki Irie from Itazura Na Kiss comes to mind. Deep down I never understood why Kotoko fell in love with him. Heck, I don't understand why Shansai, (?) the girl from Meteor Garden 2018, fell in love with Daomin sing (?). I mean he was a really vile person.
So I would say, sure check out if you want. That's your prerogative after all, but just make sure you don't have a double standard. The plot contrivances we see in Thai BL crop all over Asian dramas as far as I can tell. The homophobic Type is just a different version of the stereotypical tsundere we have seen in other shows, including SOTUS. And this is an archetype we see all over Asian dramas: the broken boy who hates everyone except the female protagonist who can somehow understand him just because she is a girl (none of the male friends protagonist ever see his soft side).
Anyway, not trying to convince you to watch but I guess if anyone else reads your comment, I want them to think about this in a different way!
By "realistic" you mean ??? Can I ask you to elaborate if that's fine with you...
Yeah this is correct. I did dated a guy once who was molested as a child and I have seen what that does to people. It is not pretty.
I think that realistically speaking, it would have taken years for Type to turn around and become a whole person again, but I am willing to suspend disbelief if the story is good, if it has a positive message and if at some point they deal with the ugly truth about child abuse.
I didn’t approve of types attitude toward gays in the beginning, but I was ok with it as part of the story,…
I agree 100% with you. There is a lot of gay man who are homophobic. Being gay, and getting it on with another men does not make someone not homophobic. Only Hollywood thinks that... We gay men know the real truth because we deal with it in our community.
My own husband, who I love and adore and who is the sweetest person has said some really mean homophobic comments in front of me. Of course, my reaction is always to educate so I try to turn it around on him and make sure he understands.
Based on what I have seen from Type, I would expect him to always be the one that makes the little insinuations that are just plain homophobic (Microaggressions?). I don't think this will change despite how he feels about Tharn.
BTW I havenot watched Ep 7 so no spoilers in this thread please! I will watch it tomorrow (most likely) or this weekend! (Work keeps me from watching it!)
Wow, I just checked to make sure its true, and yes the hashtag for Ep7 is #1 trending in Thailand's twitter and MAME is on one of the top spots for number of tweet mentions...
Wait, Mew and Gulf who do you think is more handsome, for me personally I think is Mew
Both are very attractive men but Type is, well my type :) Gulf is cute. In this episode 6 he made the cutest faces and I may be alone in saying this, but Gulf is a better actor than Mew (Sorry! My opinion!).
How about this? I heard your opinion, I filed it, and its something I will maybe remember if I ever go back and think I was wrong about this show.
What I don't understand is why us not sharing your opinion means we are a "joke"?
Also, Type is not an actor. He is a soccer player and student played by a guy who's name is Gulf. So I am assuming you mean that Gulf is not a good actor?
Ok people, what do you think it will happen in tomorrow's episode?!?! Write your thoughts...https://twitter.com/TharntypeS/status/1193468339647123456?s=20
I really don't want to know! I want to be surprised!
I don't know what straight asians shows you've been whatching, but this series shows much more than the regular…
I too dream of going to Thailand. It is a beautiful country! I have been trying to convince the husband that we should go there. (He is not too interested in traveling abroad).
Interestingly, he has a certain connection to that area of the world. You see, he is ethnically Hmong, a minority group in Southeast Asia who has a very strong presence in an area of Thailand known as Chiang Mai (also in Chiang Rai?). Anyway, his family members, many of who were either born in Thailand or have been there, are always like "Oh you should go there..." and I am like "Yeah, we should go!" but bah, he is half curious about it but not as much as I am to go to Thailand.
Its weird too because now I know way more Thai than Hmong and I feel like I should know a little bit of Hmong!
Anyway, you should go! You have a friend there? I would totally go... (even if its an ex, who cares? :) )
I will make it there one day... And bonus if I get to go for a fan meet. (I will be the only latino male screaming with all the Thai girls LOL)
And the missionary position as Gulf tried to console Mew. Like dammmmmmn!
This is a good question. And you are partially correct. I don't think they make a lot out of the roles they play. However, a lot of these actors become "influencers". When you follow them on instagram you will notice that they advertise all kinds of things. They get paid for it.
I would say that on average, most Thai BL actors have upwards of 100k followers at least, with many of them having close to 1M followers. Companies pay them tons of money for that. Plus, as celebrities they also get gifts from their fans.
It could also be part of their contract with GMM-TV that they have to do public appearances in a certain way (e.g. holding hands, etc.). IDK, I am not privy to their contracts but I imagine this is how that works.
If you don't think these kids have money, look at their instagrams. I see them traveling (for leisure) to Japan, China and Europe quiet often. They have expensive clothing, watches, etc. I am not saying they are millionaires but they live comfotably thanks, in part, to the fanservice they do!
Anyway, I guess my point is this show is now reminding me of the good feels I had when I watched Love Sick so this is a good thing. :) This is why I watch Thai BL!
I had said that about Ohm Pawat and we are seeing him now in more and more mainstream stuff.
I just hope he stays true to his roots and keeps doing more BL!!!
(The other great BL actor on my list is Gun, of course! Oh and Singto... Singto is very good too)

I do hope they get to that eventually.

This show is taking over the twitterverse....
Anyone that read the translated novel that could offer some insights?

I disagree.
Does that make you feel better?
Type is saying one thing with his mouth, another with his body, and another with his actions :P
