'cuz he was gay, and the director from two moons said that he only wanted straight males to do the roles.
oh, you misunderstood me LOL I was talking about straight men falling in love with their straight FEMALE co-stars but I am sure there has been the occasional bisexual actor or gay actor that has fallen in love and dated a male co-star.
You know, when you say that TharnType story is gay porn, you're clearly missing the best thing about the series,…
Agreed. I feel a sort of personal connection to the story so in my case it doesn't have to be too deep but it deals with a topic I care about, so I watch!!! :)
I am not sure what you mean by "triggered". I am not mad or upset. If you look at my comments here, you will see I am not that kind of person.
You may be the only person I know that watches porn and pays attention to the "plot" but oh well. I digress.
While I did not attempt to compare QAF to this show in the above message, I have in the past compared the shows as both are pushing the envelope. QAF is not a sacred cow of a show by any means, it did some good things and it did some terrible things.
I do think that these two shows are comparable. Both shows push the envelope, as I stated above, and both shows center around issues which gay people deal with... When I think of a show like say, SOTUS, I don't think of anything there that is a global issue that I, as an adult gay man, have to deal with. But this show actually talks about important issues, including consent and childhood sexual abuse. So, I think both shows do have some parallels and this is unusual in Thai BL.
I am not going to become an apologetic defender of this show. If it does something wrong, I will point it out but for the most part it has been good.
Having said that, I think this show is being unfairly criticized and I am not 100% sure why. Is it because its popular and some people need to find something wrong with a show they don't like but is popular? Is it because it shows too much sex for the taste of some?
Let's be clear, this show is NOT pornographic. And I will reiterate what I said earlier, this show is TAME compared to QAF (which was my point which you missed). There is a lot of explicit and erotic scenes but they serve to advance the plot.
I am a huge fan of Lovesick. Lovesick did what it did without showing any skin. I can watch a show that features nothing more than a tame kiss and a lot of hand-holding porn. I don't watch this just because I want to see skin or erotic scenes. I am here for the plot and thus far, there is a plot and characters that have evolved and so I care very much about Tharn and Type and what happens to them. Even if that scene in Episode 4 is the last erotic scene, I will continue watching.
Yes, I guess you are correct. Tharn is optimistic. Thought, I still want to think the show will give us an idealist/romantic Tharn... Imagine if while Type is a closeted homosexual, Tharn is a closeted romantic? :)
I am using a phone app called Thai Alphabet and a combination of a book called "Learn Thai with 100 words" (I think, I don't have it in front of me) and songs (Shake from Love Sick is great!).
The Thai script is hard because it seems that some letters have the same sound, so I have to research what sound they make and if its different from another sound that I learned. Another issue I am now having is that the fonts used in some of the shows we watch make the script pretty different so I have a hard time seeing the right letter.
Pronunciation of words in dialogue is also a pain because a lot of native speakers don't pronounce things exactly the same as they are written (Think Krap vs Kap/Hap, Thai people find the R too hard to prononuce I guess!!!)
My goal at the moment is to learn enough Thai script that I can read the name of the actors in credits etc but I am a long way from there (I know like 3 or 4 consonants now!).
Maybe one of these days I will read a manga. I am studying Japanese via duolingo and books and audio CDs... (I have also began learning how to read the Thai script. Its really fun!). Reading a manga could be a great way to practice Japanese....
Yeah, I meant he is an idealistic person (meaning he has a rose-colored view of people). I think Tharn thinks Type is a good person, and he may be right, but from the looks of it, I think Type will break Tharn's heart in a couple of episodes.
The bed scene where they embraced after Type's confession was well done. (The scene right before with Tharn on top of Type was a bit weird to me). It got me emotional too...
Type's character is understandable. But I can judge his character well after 10 episodes. I feel like it's way…
I am with you... I fear he is falling hard and fast and that having sex was not a good idea. I think Type is going to destroy Tharn. I think he is using him.
Amen! You've perfectly described my opinion on all of those dramas. I was bored to death by SOTUS and the same…
I enjoyed SOTUS the first time I watched it but it was SLOW. I tried to watch it a second time and I just can't. It is boring.
I agree that SOTUS S was also boring and I haven't been able to finish it yet (I think I watched 2 episodes).
But I agree, to each his/her own. We won't all like the same things. I enjoyed watching Theory of Love, but unlike some others around here, I don't think I would rate it too high. It had good cinematography and production values and the acting was really good but the story was cliche (except for gun crying in the shower, that was very original LOL).
One of the few BL shows I binge-watched was He's coming to me. I am surprised some people don't even put it in the top 3 of this year. It is in my top for sure!
I also binge-watched season 1 of Love Sick. I really wanted to know how they ended up... :) Season 2 had some binge-worthy parts, especially the last few episodes. (I watched the BL cut).
I am watching DBK and it can wait... But this show... Oh, no. I really look forward every week to TharnType... :)
Interesting analysis. This is more or less what I was thinking. I guess I should say hostile and not "hate". You are right, Type is hostile towards Tharn and that type of behavior would put him in the same vein as Naoki in Itazura na Kiss, while Tharn is almost like Kotoko (well, a horny and smart Kotoko LOL) because he is starting to come off as a bit more idealistic. I mean, I am not sure I buy the "it's just sex" deal. And remember how when he embrace Type in the last episode he said, "I am sorry"? (I got a bit emotional in that scene BTW).
It's funny because I had been thinking for awhile that Tharn reminds me a little bit of Uhera in Good Morning Call (cool, sexy, secure of himself), while Type does remind me of Naoki (cold, hostile, emotionally complex). To me this show follows more closely those shojo archetypes compared to other Thai BLs (except SOTUS, of course).
Its interesting how you can have a character that cries yet he is coming off to all of us as a cold person... Type is really a very deep character. (This is also a unique thing in Thai BL. I don't think you see male leads cry at all in Shojo manga, do you? Heck not even in American TV do they cry as much as in Thai lakorns)
BTW I had to look the term tsundere up when I first encountered it and I think the reason I came across it was that I was reading something about Arthit in SOTUS being described as a Tsundere...
Did you see He's coming to me , 2moons2 and the history series ?
Well, in that case you can just explore youtube and mydramalist to find others...
I believe it was @Liz who suggested to me to watch 3 Will Be Free? I am watching it right now. Its good. I have only watched 1 episode because I have very few hours a week to watch tv... I am already watching Dark Blue Kiss and this one... :)
Type's internal monologues from the book should be included in the show. That would be a very easy way to explain…
...idk I have read Love Sick (actually, almost read... I am about 90% done), and the inner monologues that both Phun and Noh have on the novel help a lot to understand the characters. Did you know that Phun liked Noh from like 6th grade or something like that? I mean, the whole "wanna be my boyfriend" thing was planned. He wanted to get close to Noh.
And the breakup scene with Yuri? And the rooftop scene at the end with Yuri? I CRIED SO MUCH because I had read the book and I knew how Noh felt about Yuri (and let's be honest, the actress who played Yuri is excellent in her role).
So I think inner monologues help!!!! We saw some in Theory of Love so they can be done in Thai BL!!!
I think production is doing the best they can given the circumstances. They had to condense a long novel series…
I agree with @Pincolino some scenes are a bit slow or repetitive.
They could have also tried to show the character's inner monologues. J-dramas do that a lot and Thai BLs are supposed to be derived from them so why not do the inner monologue thing here too?!!!
Long post alertIf it possible read the novel you will get a picture of what Type is thinking, 1 He hate gay because…
Wait wait wait wait a second... Don't jump to wrong conclusions. There is absolutely no research that shows that men that have been sexually assaulted become gay. What the research shows is that gay children are often victimized more frequently than the heterosexual children.
Maybe this is why you don't understand Type. You are assuming the assault made him gay, when it is the other way around. Type has always been gay. This is why he is attracted to Tharn.
I have heard people say that Arthit is a tsundere. I didn't make that up. Someone else said that.
I get what you are saying which is why I had said "if there is a tsundere..." (implying that there is probably none). My very first impression of Tharn was that he was cool and cold. He tried to act like he wasn't bothered by Type's remarks. But you are right, soon he warmed up. That's why I also added the caveat of "it depends how you analyze it".
Type on the other hand has, IMO, been very cold towards Tharn. He hasn't been cold to everyone but definitively to Tharn...
I am familiar with the Tsundere because I watch J-dramas too. It seems in Shojo manga, the tsundere is the prototypical male lead. Now, how long does the character show a cold streak and to how many people, varies. In some shows I have watched, the male lead is cold to everyone (even his own family), in others he is only cold to the female lead, and in yet others he is only cold to her for like the first 3 episodes... I don't read manga, so I am no expert... But that's what I have learned.
Like I said above, the tension in most BL dramas doesn't arise from a character being cold to a warm character (like in shojo-based doramas) but from love-hate relationships (SOTUS, TharnType; Theory of Love, Make It Right...) or from closeted feelings (Lovesick, Make It Right?, He's Coming to Me, Theory of Love).
Fluke is one of the best BL actors I've watched for some years now :) I personally love Rebirth/ Reincarnation…
If you like romance reincarnation stories you may also be interested in "He's coming to me", which is a ghost story that touches on reincarnation a little bit. Its about a ghost who can be seen by this one boy. Eventually, the ghost falls in love with the boy. Its a Thai BL story and is one of my favorites.
Next year, a Tale of a Thousand Stars will air. Its also Thai BL. Its about a women who dies and her heart goes to a guy who then tries to follow her footsteps. He eventually meets the man who she seems to have fallen in love. Because her heart beats inside of him, he also falls in love with this man or so it seems from the trailer that just came out. Its from GMM-TV, one of Thailands production powerhouses. I think it will be good...
You may be the only person I know that watches porn and pays attention to the "plot" but oh well. I digress.

So no LineTV subs then? We can't watch it on any official channel??
