i didn’t meet a novel reader who hated him so far, maybe they didn’t finish the novel? i’m not sure🤭…
i really like him in the drama as well but yes most of people hate with him passion because they don’t try to understand him and only focus on his spiteful words and arrogance when he’s more than that. ☹️ he’s one of the most interesting character to me, i really like prideful characters like him, he didn’t notice her how deep he’s into her yet and he’s feeling frustrated because he can’t have her, even losing control over himself, he’s so fun to watch i love his quick responses, he knows everyone weakness and his own, only him can make shaoshang fume 🤭
yes she is turning into an annoying character that everyone hate.... nice character development .. am i right?
she’s a bit older in the novel yes and she’s different from the one in the drama, her mum is way nicer in the novel, she didn’t get humiliated when he proposed her, third princess bullying her didn’t happen either, there are many different things, novel shaoshang is not as cunning and over emotional as drama shaoshang. in drama version she’s already falling for lby when she didn’t before long in the novel, the pacing is similar but the two shaoshang aren’t going through the exact same things. (all the way important novel events are happening however this is what i meant by execution)
in the drama, when it comes to the country and the people he’s a good emperor however when it comes to the officials he’s biased, i wouldn’t say he’s foolish he just has a kind heart which is a weakness here since he has been wanting to forgive and have been forgiving corrupted officials because of his connexions with them.
i didn’t meet a novel reader who hated him so far, maybe they didn’t finish the novel? i’m not sure🤭 because if you read it till the end there is no way you’ll still dislike him…
yes she is turning into an annoying character that everyone hate.... nice character development .. am i right?
the drama follows the novel pacing i believe so i don’t think it’s an issue with the show’s execution, you’re probably just not too friand of this (very) slow character development which i can understand (i personally know the overall story). this drama is a coming-of-age genre except we don’t follow a normal kid but someone who was left dying in a remote village with nothing to eat and her aunt + grandma always waiting for her at home to harass her. mistreated children all grow up differently depending on what happened in their past. for shaoshang case, she survived alone for 15 years and doesn’t care about the consequences, she admitted it herself. i think it’s pretty obvious she’s not acting with her head most of the times but her heart, you can see this as her being stupid i just see this as someone over-sentimental. she’s impulsive and lacks of self-control because no one told her, with care, what is right what is wrong, her reactions are always disproportionate because this is what abandonment can do to someone. the fact that she still has a good heart after everything that happened to her is a miracle actually. her turning into this mischievous child who only listens to herself and is desperate to keep her free-will since this is how she survived all these years just makes sense to me. and all the stuffs she experienced in the past months, if one thing, added more trauma than helped her to mature. she was forced to go live in the palace, she just wanted to learn with the empress and mind her own business. not only she first received care, love and attention with the empress for the first time, but she second also got bullied by the princesses.
for the first case, through the empress, she’s discovering new things such as caring for others and not just herself (something she has been doing for fifteen years), but once again, because of her past where she was abandoned, she doesn’t care about the empress like a normal daughter would, she feels like she needs to protect this person who dotes so much on her with her life, reason why she’s being totally irresponsible, the way she behaves are the result of her traumas. she doesn’t care about the nation, she doesn’t want to be in the court, she wants none of this. she said it to lby, she only thinks about the empress well-being, she’s just not responsible.
for the second case, the princesses bullying her just bring back all these past traumas, these things she experienced before, the possible character development she could had disappeared in wind because she again has to fight for her life. she’s used to survive alone reason why she doesn’t say anything to lby, doesn’t rely on him, doesn’t want to bother him, she’s a lone-wolf.
and it’s clear the emperor is not a good leader at all, same for the empress, he’s too weak so he overlooks 95% of things including shaoshang behavior. consort yue should be the one on the throne she’s the one talking for them most of the time. shaoshang, initially, didn’t try to meddle in court politics, she only wanted to comfort the crown prince to relieve the empress’ pain. later she did got involved with the seal but once again because of the empress. (she acts completely irrationally when it comes to her) which was a stupid mistake and she realized it herself after being almost caught. but the thing is, she didn’t get caught, she has to experience the real consequences of her actions to understand. (and she will in episode 38) because so far, even if she got punished, everyone was always too soft on her, it’s basically as if she got away with everything.
the drama doesn’t portray a healthy relationship at all, he literally forced her to get engaged, despite the heroic and cute moments, lby is manipulative, css plays with fire, it’s toxic between them and it will be even more later. both mains characters are full of traumas, over emotional, over passionate, over sentimental, these two don’t control themselves at all. this is a spoiler but what she will experience later is completely different, she will be forced to grow up, because she will be emotionally and sentimentally devastated, the girl who always did the most and too much to survive will almost lose her will to live… this will change her, only this.
yes she is turning into an annoying character that everyone hate.... nice character development .. am i right?
30 episodes passed but only few months passed in the drama she’s still not even 16, she’s 15 and got mistreated for 15 years so it won’t take just few months to mature but years. she’s not a normal kid, traumas won’t heal easily, maybe never. she’s incredibly flawed and will keep making the same mistakes until she finally realizes the seriousness of her actions because she’s also the type to learn from experience. she will mature later… however if she bothers you too much you can also stop watching the drama there is no need to get yourself this upset over a character.
Things that I don't agree on is LBY has to drag the Emperor and Queens to intervene disputes, without them....situation…
he's the one who staged all of this, this is why he was late... he told her "no matter who you meet and what happens today you don't have to panic, you can scold and throw a tantrum"
Did anyone notice YS coming to the engagement and how he was ready for action. When the Old Consort arrived he…
he wanted to be his usual bratty self with her but it could have backfire against him really badly 🤣 episode 40 preview looks fun, shaoshang and yuen shen back at their cat and dog fights but also a bit sad, he's realizing it might really be too late to get her heart now, he probably really believed it wasn't going to work between them the same way it happened with her and yao
I think we no need overthinking whole seal situation, because it even wasn't in novel, and probably was created…
yeah definitely, it's not an important scene but let's say the inconsistency is a bit surprising coming from the screenwriter so it made me rewatch the scene and think about it as well lol, i hope we will see the plot used later again in the story and yes, it would definitely be interesting to have marquis yue plans backfiring against him!
i do agree the counterfeit tiger seal plot device is choppily written; crown princess saw it only one time how does she remember the exact shape, the material, ect? same for the boxes, did shaoshang make them as well? she did everything so quickly and for the first time? i know she's gifted but making a seal isn't easy at all? i wish we saw her more of her being troubled while considering making it, something in the lines of "i know i'm putting myself and my family in danger but i can't let harm happen to the empress", because counterfeiting a royal seal is such a big deal and they rushed it... ling buyi consequently deceiving the emperor when he would never do something (at least) like this since he's so loyal and not telling shaoshang either how dangerous what she did was... he told her off the night before for so much less and just told her "let's not talk about it more" for this? i get him wanting to be nice with her but she's not going to learn if he doesn't explain to her.... like they moved on too fast from the whole thing it doesn't seem right so i hope they'll talk about it again because the seal is now in someone else hands and it's super risky? the real seal can reappear at any moment and put ling buyi in massive trouble since he replaced it with his family seal? will ling buyi get the real one back since he knows who stole it? if they wanted to make a plot device to emphasize ling buyi being a self-sacrificing person for shaoshang i'm sure they could have find something else, especially for the ones who read the novel we know what he will do once he learns the truth so him giving up the last object from the huo clan for shoshang is a bit? him putting his life on the line to go save her is logical since he's a general but here? it's not working really smoothly, the plot device looks unfinished, it's just a small scene tbh but for such a perfect drama who focus on so many details this just doesn't really follow up with the rest
since everyone is giving their opinion on this shaoshang-ling buyi fight i will as well! 👩🏻💻 (let…
i think people expect too much from our female lead; shaoshang is a 15yo girl with a terrible childhood, she has so many traumas (from abandonment, trust issues, lack of love, loneliness), everything that happened to her made her who she is now, she had to survive alone for FIFTEEN years (that’s so many years and her whole existence…), she’s incredibly flawed, she’s reckless, cunning, but also very naive and her attention is fully on herself, she’s kind and helpful but until now, she doesn’t really think for other people because she always faced everything alone and this is why she also doesn’t care about the consequences. she started thinking for someone else only in the recent episodes with the empress, and she will soon with a second person, our beloved male lead ling buyi.
on this last fight with him i’m personally mostly on her side, he made some good points but he also was very wrong for some. i saw some people mentioning she’s a brat who guilt-tripped ling buyi into feeling bad and i disagree. she was feeling all content to join him since their relationship is getting better but what did he do? he treated her like one of his soldier who didn’t listen to his orders. “are you feeling satisfied now?” i would have been fuming after this sentence, acting as his fiancee is the one who committed a crime. he was at first passive-aggressive with her because “she”, alone, ruined his plans according to him but let’s recapitulate what happened: crown prince came to see his mum but was troubled, shaoshang noticed it and gave him some comfort words, so why is ling buyi blaming her for that? wdym trivial family matters can bring to bigger issues? ok it can happen but he didn’t even notice he’s also just making excuses to put the fault on her when the only two people responsible for what happened are crown prince and the emperor. he blamed her instead of them when they’re the ones in power and forgiving corrupted officials; 15yo smol shaoshang doesn’t have that much power to manipulate the crown prince’s words and actions, like this is such a reach to say because of her the wang clan got exonerated? no that’s the emperor fault, both him and his son are too weak to rule a country.
she didn’t lie when she roughly told him “you don’t tell me anything in details and keep me out of your plans how am i supposed to understand? your forced me in your life but also wants me to stay in the dark for whatever reason? maybe because you also think i’m stupid and untrustworthy?” she said the truth, he obviously doesn’t think she’s stupid but he didn’t try to trust her and doesn’t know himself which place exactly she should stand in his life (reason why he didn’t answer). him being secretive and not telling her shit is a big problem in their relationship. funny thing is shaoshang doesn’t trust him either so she doesn’t rely on him and keeps acting on her own exactly like him (truly a match made in heaven). the same people ling buyi told her to stay away from have been nice and protecting her, she would have keep his words in mind if she wasn’t feeling safe at the eastern place but it’s not the case. why isn’t she listening to him? his words just don’t weight a lot in her head because she’s not close to him that’s it, he stayed vague so she overlooked them, he only needed to say what he told her in their fight, it wasn’t too much details just enough for her to understand she put the empress and crown prince in even more problems, she would have understood and acted differently, he needs to touch her heart to reason her.
now about her setting the third crown princess dress on fire; no matter how satisfying it was, it was a wrong move on her part, she herself didn’t expect the situation to take such lengths either. there is a reason why her mum was so against her marrying ling buyi, because our niaoniao is indeed uncontrollable, an extinct volcano that can be active at any moment. both shaoshang and ling buyi follow “an eye for an eye” when no matter how good it feels to take revenge you should NEVER do it, but that’s how shaoshang got to survive and be respected all this time (and same thing for him). just because she’s in the palace now she’s not going to change overnight, it’s not like she didn’t try to mind her own business but those princesses keep harassing her so her survival instinct woke up again and she choose to attack even if she knows herself she shouldn’t but it’s just how she is, it’s not like she’s not aware of the difference of status but she can’t control herself. she will learn later her actions can have heavy consequences, for now she always managed to escape almost unscathed from everything, so why would she stop since it always works? this is why episode 38 is necessary even if i don’t agree with ling buyi ways but at least she will understand, she needs to grow up and be more responsible.
He is part of a conspiracy, he can not disclose all to her because it's not his secret to tell..
but the thing, not only shaoshang doesn’t fully trust ling buyi yet (the fact she keeps acting on her own is a proof), but the same people he told her to stay away from have been nice and protecting her, she feels safe with them while she was feeeling uncomfortable with him until recently (and the trust between them took a step back with this fight), he stayed vague so she overlooked them, his words just don’t weight a lot in her head because she’s not close to him, he only needed to say what he told her in their fight, it wasn’t too much details just enough for her to understand she put the empress and crown prince in even more problems, she would have understood and acted differently, his issue is he wants her as a wife but doesn’t want include her everywhere in his life
Ep37 and 38 on the novel --The trailers are impressively misleading due to the timeline. Ep37 it shows LBY punishing…
i was so upset about episode 37 preview, i can relax a bit now, thank you so much 😭 they play too much with our feelings with these misleading previews
