Having watched till ep1, what u said about embodying 弄假成真. He also achieve this by using his speed. He was incredibly fast with his movements that supported the blurring of reality and illusion.

Also, he was also the master of able to control 5 elements. When he was making arrogant dragon thousand mechanism formation. According to subtitles it is heaven meeting wind. Which was restricted to use in the capital. But he was able to do although not completely but that shows just how powerful he is.
Adding to ur point, we watch too many dramas that sometimes we forget that how hard it's to achieve this level of body control. U are controlling ur mind and heart to pass the limitations of body to achieve this.

It's just that, Reality is shaped by your mind, but your heart can be fooled by illusions. This I have learnt opposite. For me heart knows the reality but brain can be fooled by illusions. I like this contradiction. This will be the ques i will ask and observe while watching this series.

Somewhere, whole writing this comment I realised why in my head "Shadow Punisher" fits as title. Earlier i was thinking literally. But since this series uses arcane arts the term shadow makes sense. Also the concept of reality and illusion if i try to link with Shadow makes sense. Shadow is formed when light gets obstructed by opaque object. Here, I perceive this as reality and truth as light and opaque object as illusion. One has to be there for shadow to exist. Which is why it compliments as well here. Using magic with both reality and illusion. Both are opposite energy.

I wanted to like this. I tried so hard. When I love Zhou ye so much. But sorry have to drop i am not able to move forward and complete ep6. Dropping. Hoping to like their future projects.

True. Rare times when synopsis is like a guiding light in terms of aiding the people with timeline and events.

Ig they wanted to make a story where they want to grab viewers attention with mystery and truth untold like an onion. U peel each layer to get the mystery resolved. And they did achieved that.NGL. But at the same time stories like this have higher chance of viewers not able to connect with characters.

One needs to have enough space and time between events and the impact to develop character attachment. Too much will not work and too less will be boring. Middle path is the key. It's hard to find, write, execute, act like that.

Yesterday tried to achieve this by too much back and forth in the earlier eps and failed( for me).

Sometimes, these stories does demand attentive viewer but here even if I am giving my full attention. ( I never use phone when i watch any drama). I am still relying on synopsis.

Eg:- The Amnesia plot was supposed to drop hints earlier and the restaurant when they all met and he was told he used to come with Ming Xuan often there. Was the major missing piece. He should have realised that something is missing in his puzzle board and things does not add up with the memory and info he has. It should be the story and Shen Mo's realisation to make me understand this. And not this drama title or synopsis.


But i 100% agree with u. This drama actually tried to give it's audience a true psychological flavour in BL world. Story actually has potential. They actually have story to tell. It's just not for everyone.

Ig this drama is not dark romance. It's Psychological. So things like this makes sense to me. Even trauma of Shen Mo makes sense to me. I haven't watched after ep4. So i will talk what I have watched.

Story is good as i said the problem is storytelling and it's sequencing. I ain't screenwriter so I will not comment much on that.

But whenever they make out, idk ik Ming Xuan is in love with him and Shen Mo is just confused. But idk i still never felt an ounce of love in those scenes. The night when Ming Xuan was in rain and then his assistant/bodyguard drop him home instead of mountain villa. He was in yearning. He was like " Shen Mo why u are so close to me, but still i cant feel u?". He was yearning old Shen Mo and Shen Mo was jealous with whole other guy rumour thing. So that was supposed to be a night where two people gave in. They were vulnerable with their feelings to each other. But did i felt that? That level of depth? The problem is that when script offers me kiss and intimacy. I don't need that. I need emotional intimacy. Tell me why that kiss that time mean so much to u and how it changes ur relationship.Otherwise that whole sick thing was more intimate to me. They were caring, expressing their love in their own way, they were actually close that time even when they are not cuddling or hugging each other.

But based on what i watched till ep4, Ming Xuan said he is not his ex but for Shen Mo he believes and actually in confusion with those feelings and flashbacks. So it kinda makes sense to me.

I think this story actually had a good concept but too many things are not upto my liking. Again I ignore everything. I just need one thing correct that is storytelling and execution. It falls little behind in this.

Long story short. Ig novel is a must read in this case for me. I will watch series and read novel and again rewatch to understand more.

Thank God. Someone said. This is so true. Because the part where he has to act confused i saw his straight face. When he has to act moved by the act of Ming Xuan beating his ex cousin and him bandaging i know story is telling u that for Sheng Mo it was imp..As his ex was not able to give him protection but Ming Xuan gave and practically his life has stopped at that cousin kidnapping him incident. As he clearly was so impacted that all his good memories before that was there but that incident acted like hard stop to not contact his ex. Plus he lost his career as an artist. And then he was again involved into accident and then he lost all his memories but that part was vivid. So when Meng xuan saw him hiding like a cucoon it was supposed to be "touch him and see the consequences vibe." But I was not moved.


I felt I am moved by the story. Because story is actually good. Just not able to feel it.

Ig somewhere i have high expectations with China. I agree that Xiao Zhan set bar so high with untamed for me with his acting but even Bittersweet cast, Till i see u cast, Winter sun cast, DH cast did said that they can act. But sorry actor playing Shen Mo has to improve a lot as an actor.

Sometimes now I think cold guy, innocent guy, angel boy plots are indeed overused but still not all can pull off and make their characters memorable for me. Now that i realise it's hard.

Am not into modern cdrama. I barely finishes them. But WOF was diff. And i actually here agree with your point. As long as drama has romance with average story it gets so popular in MDL.

But if it doesn't have good amount of romance it will not do good in MDL.

WOF was not like that. Its focus was not romance. So it's given that it's not popular much in some certain type of audience.

Like here also there is no romance tag. So it's given lots of people will drop it after certain point. That's the reason I see ZZA, Blood river, Blood of Youth being less popular with certain sect of audience. But story is good.

That's why MDL sometimes doesn't truly reflect popularity and likability of all the people.

Let's see how good this drama does.

I don't agree with u here. TTEOTM is highly popular. To the point that drama made me love cdrama to the point there is no turning back. He was already popular with AOL. But TTEOTM, WOF gave him new heights. Although this drama just airdropped with less promotions( as a subscriber of iqiyi i don't see a page dedicated to it like SOTB) but still those who were waiting. They will make this hit as long as story and acting serves them...

This drama will be so good. I wish I complete all my currently watching dramas before I start this. The intro is so ghostly and creepy. I can't wait to start this.

Agree with u here. But my major issues with this series is storytelling. I mean i watched till ep4 and the problem is that this series if you go without reading synopsis do very little in terms of opening the facts that ok Shen Mo is having amnesia. Then the parts where i should feel sorry and pain for the characters I didn't felt in depth.

Another thing, Shen Mo was having doubts that Ming Xuan just considers him as his plaything and is another person. Then all of a sudden when he cares for Ming Xuan while he was sick and all that in later episodes. I feel like Ming Xuan is already saying that he don't consider him like that. And Shen Mo was never shown to clear this doubt. Then u have Shen Mo having dilemma of whom he actually love. It was so much imp in earlier eps. Like he was confused if he has still the feelings for his ex which he don't or he is more towards Ming Xuan. Or he is just missing. Ideally if this is amnesia plot he should be getting influenced by those flashbacks. As it means to him on emotional level. Later if he would have found that ok those are Ming Xuan memories that he got all messed up. It would made more sense.

But still I will watch this drama. As story actually is upto my liking and not to deny this story has and had potential.

Ep3, qingying wanted to know how story ended.

Chengming told her.

She asked isnt there more to it.

He answered who knows. Maybe story has ended or maybe story just have begun.

The story that ended was chengming shedding his naiveness, playfulness, the ability to trust, his entire old life and him.

The story that begin was of revenge and seeking truth.

Qingying again said.

The story may not be mine. But the scenery i saw it with u while listening to it is something i will remember always.

Because to qingying this story although it was not hers. The scenery that she saw was the truth of deciept and another world which was hidden from her. She will remember it as awakening story and as a lesson.


In that temple, chengming went completely drunk as he has nothing to live for.

Drowning in effect of alcohol and his sadness. Wanting nothing just to be reunited with his family. He seeks death.

And indeed he died that day. A death of old life.

The wanderer said u are not destined to die today. He was correct. Chengming was not supposed to die physically.

The wanderer fortune teller said I have always listened the story of living. But i have never heard the story of dead. He asked Chengming( who is dead) to tell his story.

They shared the same goal under that fire. They although had same goal but the pain and purpose was diff under that temple. The temple where chengming suffering began became the place to vow and drive his new life. Which is driven by revenge. That day he took fortune teller whose same ones took everything away as his master to take this path.

It's not like that. Even if u pay using applepay or googlepay. U can still view in both phone and laptop/ ipad/ tv. Just check how many devices it supported. I also recently tried and it's working for me. Although it's my first time with Iqiyi subscription idk how it will go.

Isn't this expected? Non romance to little romance dramas specially set in republican era is like this only.

Ep7, he wanted her to not cling with him..but still can't let go of her. She is trying to maintain professional relationship only. As she knows he don't wanna commit. But they both like each other. Plus they don't want to mess with work life. Atleast Flora don't get jealous. She is understanding. She is the one who can actually control the feeling of love by drowning herself into work. But Luke? He often gets jealous.

The way he approach things are so disrespectful. He wants to go on blind date. But still held her under the umbrella like that when there was absolutely no need. He didn't need to whirl her around under the umbrella that too like that. He could have given her support with his hand. He is the one who can't control the feeling of love.

I hope netflix dub/sub properly. Sub of Netflix doesn't include text messages, song lyrics and sometimes even imp details convo. I was highly disappointed with First frost sub there. Let's hope for the best.

I feel sad about Time. He knows that he is extra but it still hurts. He saw everyone has fan except him. He saw everyone is giving interview except him. That's sad.

Also, Wan was conflicted but he is realising and improving. He understood Nine was insecure and he played by it. He tried to keep distance between him and Third for Nine sake. He didn't wanted to snatch his on screen partner. But off screen if he has started liking Third then ig it should be understandable. Afterall who can control their heart?
He didn't liked that he has to everytime explain his stance to Nine. Yes he was his fanboy. But he is now his costar. Nine should respect that. He always kept him feel inferior and never acknowledging him more than his fanboy. He even said lot of things to him behind his back. He could have said like Third out and front. But he decided to let his insecurity take the form of scheming and backstabbing. He even mentioned that he is lucky to have time spend with him. He is not thinking of him as his equal. He thinks that Wan doesn't deserve to be popular and he only should be most popular. It doesn't work like that. Why would I kill Wan? This hit Wan. It sounds fun in that campfire. But it was scary.

So he didn't explained his stance to Nine this time when Third and Wan was practicing romance kiss scene. But when he came home. All he see is Nine posters in all over his walls. An idol he once idolised with his all heart. But reality of that idol is completely opposite. All those photos that he took and adored them are screaming is Nine really like that? Or he just don't like him? He is just a fanboy. But the reality of Nine is completely opposite of what a Fanboy can take and come out of the bubble world the internet and Nine himself along with entertainment industry shows. His internal conflict is something he was facing.

Then after photoshoot. He went into dark room. Because he was still conflicted. Saying he wants to go home. As home is the place one goes when the person wants and seeks comfort and thinks he is not safe in the particular env they are in.

But last words of Third displayed all the reality Wan needs to know. Nine never wants him or anyone to be more good than him.

That's it. It was enough to realise that Nine is like this. He didn't even looked shocked which explains he was understanding truth but was letting it go with excuses. Until he can't.

On the contrary, Third whom he always didn't liked was complete opposite of what he thought. He comes out rude. But he is actually a caring and nice person. He has started liking him more and more to the point he is even ready to let him enter in his world. But this Convo was never with Nine. As a Fanboy he is completely broke.

Also, i think that rehearsal is Third wanting to actually kiss Wan. And not romance scene imitation. Should I consider bicycle ride as date then? 😅
