That ending was so pointless?? I usually like tragedies but this didn't even make me sad, it was just annoying and unnecessary. Also, half of the time instead of feeling sorry for her I just found her annoying (together with most of the other characters).

I can't really remember all the details but I think he didn't want to tell her because she would turn against the king if she knew, and at that point in time he was still loyal to him (they explain why later).

And yeah, Ji Chong is hot (!!) and also a really good character. While Lord Bo is the unreasonable and cruel one, Ji Chong later becomes her pillar of support. Personality wise he's probably one of the most likable characters I've ever watched.

Yeah. I wrote this when they changed rating algorithm on MDL and the rating for this one rose to 7.6. It's back to normal again, I think.

They'll go back and forth. From what I remember she finds out his real identity in ep. 19? They're gonna have some sweet moments after that but there'll be more misunderstandings later on and he'll be cruel again. In the last few episodes they'll work things out and those few episodes are really sweet. The reason for his cruelness does get explained but a lot of people still hate it so idk.

For me it's 1. Wei Wuxian, 2. Yan Bingyun (I need him in this role for 2nd season!!!), 3. Ji Chong, 4. Tang San, 5. Bei Tang Moran, 6. Zhang Xiaofan.

I don't think I'll get over WWX anytime soon. My favorite character before him was Loki from MCU and he'd been at the top of my list for 8 years but as soon as I discovered WWX Loki completely faded out of my mind. XZ really brought WWX to life.

Same! Historical dramas are my favorite and XZ looks gorgeous in those roles but I also just want him to choose whatever he likes and feels comfortable with. He's the only actor whose dramas/movies I'll watch no matter what they're about.

Sorry to butt in but didn't they reunite again in the end? When WWX hears "Wei Ying", turns around and smiles I understood that in a way that they met again after his travels?

I found it heartbreaking when they parted ways but that last scene made it perfect. I personally couldn't wish for a better ending.

As for what's better, I would say all versions are good in their own way. It depends on what you like more. I watched donghua/anime and it's really good (closer to novel than the live adaptation), chibi version is just adorable (I watched only few episodes though). I haven't finished the novel yet, I'm stuck around chapter 42 for quite some time so it's better for someone who finished the whole thing to comment. All I can say is that there are some differences from the live adaptation so you won't be bored while reading and the story as a story is interesting.

I prefer the old one tbh but he looks good either way so whatever. This one looks like an ID pic, lol.

XZ fan or not, how can it be credible if there are companies who openly do that and it's apparently a well known fact in the industry? Wouldn't call it credible, but to each their own I guess.

I think he's apologizing to the people who have been hurt by this whole incident and not the ones who participated in the campaign against him. Nevertheless, it hurts to see him apologizing for something that wasn't his fault to begin with, but I understand why he's doing it and I admire him for being the bigger person. He's so respectable and down to earth. If I was in his place I would be bitter and resentful yet he's handling this whole situation with so much grace and tact. I really respect him as a person.

The comment I mentioned was written here on MDL and not on Douban so that's why I mentioned it. But, putting that aside I do agree that people need to stop trying to silence those who are writing objective, non-malicious criticism.
Does it feel good to see people trashing something I like? No, it doesn't, but the answer is not to try to shut up those people. I personally think those who like the show should write what they like and those who don't should write what they dislike and that's it. I find both sides occasionally annoying and unreasonable (and that's not directed at anyone personally but at general sentiments both sides are expressing).

I don't think there's a need to continue this conversation. My point is, I do agree with you about the main point (people trying to shut up critics) but I also think other side has pompous and unreasonable people as well.

Actually, I've been told to "shut up" and that I "don't have the right to talk" to a donghua fan because I'm a XZ fan. So saying only one side is pompous is a bit of a stretch.

In the end, with Prince Bo (ML). It takes some time and many misunderstandings tho.

Not sure how other sites translated it but on WeTV he said that she's his lover. I personally didn't mind but it was out of nowhere. "Person he loves" sounds more believable in any case.

That was a weird last episode. Some parts of it were good but some were completely underwhelming. I don't like BGM at all. I have a feeling it ruined a lot of scenes that could've been more impactful. I also hate when they show fighting in slow motion >.< or when they show close-ups of their faces while fighting. It kills the mood. Special effects made lots of these fighting scenes interesting to watch tho.

Looking at it as a whole, I did enjoy it. I woke up every day earlier just to watch the new episodes.
Things I liked:
1. characters, their development and their relationships
2. storyline
3. acting (there were only a few side characters that looked awkward but the main cast did a good job)
4. CGI
5. humor

Things I didn't like:
1. BGM
2. editing (what I mentioned above about the fighting scenes)

If they do film the 2nd season I'll definitely watch it even if they change the main cast. I might even watch the donghua even though I dislike the animation style (I'll probably get used to it). I think average rating of 8.2/8.3 is fitting (well, based on my own enjoyment).

Someone on twitter put it in context and said that only two dramas in 2020 reached the score of 3. It doesn't explain it but knowing that fact somewhat helps.

Only watched FBS and few episodes of LoF and I think this one is much more enjoyable. It was draggy in the beginning, especially around ep. 12/13, but after that it got better.

True, lol. Their behavior is really off-putting tbh. They do have the right to express their opinions and likes/dislikes tho, so it's best to find like-minded people and let them do their own thing.
