One thing I like about the female characters in this drama is that they’re strong and capable, but the show doesn’t shove the whole 'women are strong' message in my face every other scene. They just are, and it feels normal. It's a male centric drama, but every female character, no matter how small their role is, is written so well. Love it!
Also, am I the only one who finds that emperor scary? He's creeping me out.
its how an eunuch had so much power at the time, absolutely crazy and this is the second drama i have watched…
I'm not very familiar with Chinese history, but throughout history, it wasn’t uncommon for eunuchs to seize power during the reigns of weak emperors or regent queens. The Byzantine Empire comes to mind, eunuchs there held significant power. It’s probably a similar case in Chinese history, and it does make an interesting setting for a drama.
Okay, I'm glad the mother isn't the third person, because the way things were going, it seemed like Zang Hai would’ve chosen love over revenge if he had to make a choice, and that would’ve really pissed me off and ruined the entire drama. Now he doesn’t have to choose and can have both, which is great.
But yeah, his masters look even more suspicious now.
I'm really enjoying this, like, I love every bit of it... except the FL. She is insufferable and extremely arrogant/entitled.
I don't particularly like her relationship with ZH either. She did act bratty and was annoying at times, but since she didn’t know his plans or what was really going on, and was just meddling unknowingly, I give her a pass. Aside from those moments where her behavior toward him irked me, I actually quite like her. She's capable and useful, which is nice. 😅
is there info on how this is related to the lost tomb franchise?
I haven’t watched The Lost Tomb movies, but from what I’ve read here, Zang Hai is the man who built the tombs and structures that appear in them. Aside from his name being mentioned, it’s not a direct continuation or anything like that. Someone more familiar with the lore can feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
Initially I was hoping for XZ’s character to have martial arts that was before it aired but now I feel it wouldn’t…
I agree! That prison scene where he revealed his identity to MPJ was so good! Just imagine being in MPJ's shoes; the shock, the sense of betrayal, and the realization that ZH had already cut off all your escape routes. ZH’s schemes are just masterfully done. At first, they don't seem very significant, but they snowball into something massive, and the payoff is so satisfying to watch. It makes me giddy every time.
One thing I don't like is how Eunuch Cao died (?) without knowing ZH's real identity. I wanted to see his reaction to ZH's identity and the knowledge that he has been outplayed. 😭
I have to say this; most of my MDL ratings are pretty high because I'm easy to please, but Legend of Zang Hai is one of those rare dramas that makes me question all my previous ratings and want to lower most of them, lol. The quality is just that noticeable when you look at it as a whole. I just hope it keeps the storyline consistent all the way to the end.
The last two episodes were absolutely insane! There were so many great scenes, but one moment that really stood out to me was the musical sequence with Eunuch Cao and his men when his plan was set into motion. It was just brilliant!
I also loved how the revenge storyline unfolded. Having Zhixing kill his own father, not out of hatred, but out of necessity, was such a good choice. Their relationship was so complex, with many unresolved emotions, and this felt like the most fitting and impactful ending.
I have such mixed feelings about the Duke. He doesn’t come across as a complete monster, but keeping the flayed skin of ZH’s parents in his residence? That practically makes him irredeemable. What was even the reason behind that? And what’s their actual goal with the Seal? Do they want the ability to control those zombie warriors?
As for the FL, she’s not a bad character per se, I quite like her, but her relationship with ZH and her bratty attitude really get on my nerves. I genuinely found myself wishing ZH would just shoot her in the last episode, lol.
All that aside, I’m loving the drama. The face-off between Eunuch Cao and the Duke was incredible, and the background music makes everything so much better.
(Edit after writing the body of the comment: The other people are making me go full auntie mode. So any comment…
I’ve seen two of her works, and in both she played a supporting or guest role, so I don’t really have a strong opinion about her or her acting. I actually had to check her filmography to remember why she looked familiar to me.
That said, I’m honestly sick of these clowns who push for punishing children for the mistakes or crimes of their parents, as if a child could ever influence the decisions of adults. This isn’t about justice; it’s pure spite and hatred. They pretend to care about 'poor actresses with no backing,' yet call for the work of entire crews, hundreds of people, to be scrapped over a single actress. Hypocritical clowns, and that's me putting it nicely.
That scene in episode 18, when he visits his old house and breaks down & starts crying remembering his family… gosh, it felt so real. Like a small child crying, it was heartbreaking. I don’t know, I just can’t stop thinking about it.
People are really blaming a 17 year old child for her parents’ mistakes and low-key rooting for her to be punished. Y’all are worse than vultures, honestly.
If ZH was the perfect character who never made mistakes and outsmarted everyone on the first try, like some people seem to want, this would be a very boring drama. It's the trials and errors that make it interesting. He's young and makes mistakes, but he's also smart enough to get himself out of them. I love that!
I like the 1st drama pic. I wonder if we could make it the new drama poster for this page. It looks cool!
It would be cool! My personal favourite is this: https://x.com/luciaaiZhan/status/1923951508669747663?t=41FPQ6_-r4nHpAnfX2qXgQ&s=19 (if I knew nothing of the drama and saw it, I would instantly add it to my list, lol) but the first poster where he wore the black hat and looked all fierce was also really good. The current MDL one looks more like a character poster than a drama poster.

Edit: Works through the app. When I tried through the browser there was no other option except Alipay.
