Im wondering why Tharntype have lower rating than uwma. I think tharntype have better plot, character development,…
Well, first of all, usually the rating for currently airing dramas is higher than the final rating. After drama is finished the rating usually drops a bit. And what's more, as you said: you think these thing, I guess there are a lot of people who thinks uwma is better than tharntype. |Different people like different things

Yo, Kate this review inspired me to write my first! I swear I have the same sentiments as you do. They should…
There were moments later on when I enjoyed the interaction between the characters but I could not ignore what these interactions were build on in the 1st place. If it wasn;t for the fact I was watching and commenting on the drama with 2 friends (one who quite enjoyed it and one that disliked it as much as me) I would most likely drop it too. But I also wanted to write the review and make sure it's a fair judgement of the whole show not just the beginning episode. There was a chance they would explain all the aspects I didn't like in the later episodes (did not happen), that's why I watched it all. So no one can accuse me of judging and criticizing the show I didn't even finish.

Thank you for the nice comment. Being able to ignore certain parts to enjoy the drama is a good thing. If it wasn't for my major in university I don't think I would be this vocal about my dislike for the drama and the issues in it. I know my rating is extremely low, but it just hit all my pet peeves in dramas. I rarely ever go full "subjective" when judging drama tbh, this was one time event hahaha

Either we upvote the positive or report the negative reviews. Just sayin
omg on what basis would you even report them? "please remove this review coz I disagree with it"? It's obvious most people who complain about these low rated reviews did not even read them. It's not just baseless hate, it's criticism. You might disagree with it, but let's all be civil and not try some childish tricks like reporting reviews. This s not middle school.

I'm butting in (sorry) but I just want to explain why I watched the whole show even tho I didn't like it from the beginning. Since I disliked how they handled certain topics in the first few episodes, I wanted to express my opinion on them, but I thought it would be unfair to do it without seeing the whole show. Who know, they might have explained all the things I didn't like in later episodes (sadly it did not happen). I thought it would be unfair to make judgement and complains about the drama that I have not seen fully. You read the review so you know it's extremely subjective and I do point it out in the beginning. I'm not claiming only my opinion is right, I'm just stating how I see it.

I guess depending on the definition, I am a fan. That's why I wrote "some" not "all". Being a fan does not mean I will love every BL drama and not see the flaws in how they are film and what they represent at times.

You can have your opinion I won't stop you. I just find the way you express them funny since it's not productive. But maybe it makes you feel better so who am I to judge. Let all the frustration go in the comments. Whatever fits you, go for it :) I was expecting at least that much from some BL fans anyway.

Not understating concept of different opinion and not everyone liking what you like, wow. mature.
How is it bad that I spent actually time thinking over that review and trying to make it best represent my views? How is drafting it a bad thing? I could easily write short passive aggressive review like your comments and be done with it, but it brings NOTHING to the table and is not productive at all.

You don't have to be so passive aggressive about it lol Could have simply wrote me a message or a comment I could…
I agree with both of your points but I like to think that serious writers and producers want to create a good content with as little flaws as possible. So few mistakes here and there can happen, no drama is perfect, but I myself thought what happened in TharnType was more than that.
As for the values. I'd like to think that rape, emotional manipulation, mental health issues should be topics discussed and taken seriously no matter what cultural circle it happens in. It should be pointed out even more in the ones that do gloss over it. Cultural differences are amazing and enriching but some topics are matter of facts not opinions. Gang rape: bad. Mental health should be taken seriously? yes. Also putting whole western Europe in one bag is not a smart idea. I live in Poland, one of the most homophobic countries in Europe. We should not be out in the same box as more progressive countries in these aspects. There isn't really anything like Western European values, since all countries in Europe have their own set.

Not a problem. I mean my rating for TharnType is as subjective as possible which I also state in my review. The things that bothered me were my personal pet peeves that I could not ignore, but I get that someone could be able to ignore them and just enjoy the chemistry between characters. Different things irks different people.

From BL in 2019 I really liked History3: Make Our Days Count, even with that ending. I have not seen that many BL dramas, but from overall dramas some of my top ones are: Chicago Typewriter, Life, My Mister, Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People, Reply 1997, Secret, SKY Castle, the Guest, The Untamed. There are many dramas I rated over 8 tbh.

I mean, good for you for being able to distance yourself from the problematic scenes and enjoy the drama. I do not wish anyone to dislike it as much as me. I tend to over-analyze things I watch and it;s not something I can turn off. All the ratings are subjective on this website, a drama can be perfect with one small flaw but if someone finds the flaw especially annoying for them, they can rate it well. On the other hand the drama can have major flaws but if someone loves an aspect of the drama a lot, they can rate it high. It's all subjective so no one is really wrong here :)

It's the last time I'm replying coz I can see this conversation leads to nowhere.
This is not how mental health works and how people with trauma react. You don't get cured with the power of love. As far as the show presented, Type didn't even know how bad his mental health is, so how could he want to get better when he was not aware how bad he was in the 1st place?
You don't forget your trauma before you deal with it. He was not doing that for the past years of his living, he will not get better with one small talk with Tharn. As I said, mental health does not work like that coz our brain does not work like that. Having someone who loves and support you is a great additional thing that will make it better and easier to work the problems out, but it's not enough to cure it completely.
I kind of feel the writer of the show has more or less the same level of knowledge of survivors of sexual assault, trauma and ptsd as you. You do not cure mental health issue only with "power of love" coz life is not Disney. It's not realistic and in my eyes disrespectful to both the real victims and people working in the mental health professions.

No, it does not get brownie points for using sexual assault on the minor as a plot device to make romance more interesting. And it's not about the assault itself (TharnType ain't the 1st one to use it) but how they then added the mental problem aspect to it just to make the romance more interesting. It's the reasoning behind using those topics that annoy me and it's not respectful. If they cared about showing representation, Type's symptoms of mental issue would not be gone after 4 episodes without any explanation and reasoning behind it. It does not really address ANY issues. It introduces them, explains nothing, does not dive into them, and the moment they are not useful for the plot, they are gone.

I like to point out good and bad things in dramas, but I don't have time to write a lengthy ones for every one I finish. I usually focus on the aspects that caught my attention the most (either coz they were really good or bad). As I said, TharnType was a unique case and truth to be told if I wasn't on Christmas break from university when I was writing it, it would be nowhere near as long and detail as it is now. The timing was just right so I could allow myself to spend more time on it. And since there are many big fans of it, I wanted to make sure I explain my position well.

Because I am not as emotionally invested in UWMA? Coz it's flaws do not bother me as much as TharnType? My biggest problem with UWMA is that it's boring coz of the extremely slow pace and the past cast does a better job than the present story cast. I have nowhere near as many complains about UWMA as I did have with TharnType. Is it subjective? Yes. We all judge dramas subjectively. Things that annoyed me in Tharntype for others might not be a problem. If you feel like UWMA is worse than TharnType and have many complains: write a detail long review about it yourself. I will not stop you.

I might write a review on UWMG but it will be nowhere near as detailed as TharnType one. This was the one time thing as you can see from my other reviews. Truth to be told my review on TharnType is not really a good one. There is too many spoilers in it, so anyone who have not watch the show should not read it. It's far too long so I'm sure at least few people decided to not read it simply because of it's length. It was posted more for me, to just share my thoughts on the drama with my friends on mdl. I assumed it will be close to the bottom of all the reviews.
