I don't think this drama will have a "Sad Ending". It is my hunch. One of the main topics is the sexual attraction leading to real love. In this context I can't imagine ML or FL being killed at the end.

This is a shame like you said because this drama is a puzzle. They give you some pieces that come together as you watch the drama. Look at my review with no spoilers included. You will understand what I mean.

I really liked the investigation in this drama. I think you should reconsider.

Episode 1 : I doubt ML killed FL's mother because ML doesn't seem to be a grey character.

Moreover, in a lot ( 99%) of C-dramas the heroine always things that ML is responsible of the annihilation of her entire family ( here the murder of her mother ) . And it always turns out that ML was not the culprit but the main antagonist was.

Would that be Na Zhan the real culprit of her mother's death???! ¯\(º o)/¯

I can understand why you say this. It is true that I was disappointed by the first kiss on the FL's part. I first thought that Ancy Deng wasn't experienced enough as an actress to deliver a believable kiss onscreen.

But then, I started thinking about her character. Yan Xing is totally inexperienced, When she was kissed by ML right after his love confession, she was taken aback. So logically, Yan Xing could not understand or believe what was going on.
As a result, I can understand why she was confused while kissing Shen Du.
The second kiss was better. She was not fire but ML was.
ML saved all the romantic scenes fortunately.

This is a happy ending for this one.
As for "love in the desert" I will tell you once all episodes aired.

Regarding the dead mother. There might be an explanation. I don't think ML is guilty of her death. Someone like ML who saves his horse before himself could not harm her mother coldly.

Be careful, they changed a lot of details from the original novel.
So, there might be no point asking because they might have changed it, like they did for the identity swap, and the mother's death in the drama.

Yes, they explained that this is like a cursed place. I was shocked to see ML coming and going to easily from this residence. I am aware that he knows the secret passageways. But he was so overly confident that he got seen by SML.
We only need the 2nd princess to see him and he will soon be as good as dead.
