Viewers often only see actors fame and popularity and wealth... they do not understand that its very hard work and as a person they literally have no life being hunted by fans and paparazzi, not to mention playing scenes they might be not comfortable with, yet they still have to make a living...

I think I wouldn't like to watch such dark drama as the novel actual is.
They could still follow up a bit more the original story just reduce the level of cruelty and bloodshed...
Well, PY sounds like typical noble hubby which would expect his wife/concubines to be well mannered and submissive and ofc never defy her elders... so the bird being closed in golden cage - and in that times this would be considered of being lucky!
Jiang Ci is slowly forgetting about being nearly killed 3 times by WZ...
WZ in the novel doesn't even think about having a normal life, he has too many scars on his heart and too much blood on his hands - she will be for him like a light in the darkest night...

He is definitely capable to play complicated characters so it is a shame that his agency couldn't get suitable and satisfactory roles for him.

I don't mind him in this drama - he does great job actually as Pei Yan - as we do not expect someone who is Chancellor and seasoned general to be very young, but in his other recent dramas they were literally bleaching his face in post production and still it was hard to believe he is in early 20ties... So he might feel disappointed especially when audience is point his age out.

Yes, she is just a regular country pumpkin girl however she has an excellent lighting skill.
The person who really has hidden identity in the novel is Dr Cui :) He is a son of so called in drama prince Qi and was hidden and raised up in martial arts sect - but he doesn't want to join a court and fight for power. He is supporting PY and will step up during war with Huan state - and work as military strategist to stop the invasion.

He is portraying WZ from the novel very well :) Who usually had stone alike face and only some emotions/feelings were shown in his eyes.

Being honest all 3 main leads does great job and its one of the best dramas of 2024

Unfortunately that's a part of his personality - he is great strategist in the novel and he is used to control everyone around him - so despite his love for her - he has a lot of heart pain seeing her in any kind of trouble - he is not going to change his attitude - but he is a complicated character and him and WZ became real friends in life and death... He is also a man of his word and will keep a promise given to WZ about Yue Luo tribe.
What screenwriters are not showing to us yet is the complex and level of all political plots... I think they would need make at least 2 seasons of that drama to stay true to the novel in that matter... so that's why drama deviates so much from the book in terms of events and they devised new storyline.
Like dearest mom plotting a rebellion behind PY back... In the novel they work hand to hand for survival of Pei and Rong clans. They don't have to forge weapons in the secret - they have very skilled guards and cavalry units. (Like all other big clans in this drama). Emperor got PY's father killed, they also know the truth behind his ascension to the throne too, so they have to be really careful in their actions as that guy is only waiting for the smallest mistake to annihilate both families.

They have changed a lot comparing to the novel, so hopefully it is not going as much heart breaking like the book is

just to straight up things: WZ mansion was in the capitol, and due to his assassination of emperor was confiscated and closed by government. So without PY help and presence she wouldn't be able to enter there.
Yes, he was chasing her as he didn't want her to leave him... and yes, he offered to provide for her and WZ child

it's so over exploited plot device... they could kill them, they could actually provide for this people, give them some gov job and source of living, or hide them someplace else... but not in that abandoned temple :D

a tip for all the future investigators of C-dramaland: if there is any corruption case in the local prefecture, gov guys will hide all the refugees/beggars in the old abandoned temple just outside the city 🤣😂😅

He is all over her as he really fall for her but with a time in the novel hewill be only overprotective... Also she will became in the mean time an army physician.
The very last scene in the novel is between JC and CL - when Cui tells her that he wants to spent all future New Years with her... and awaits for her answer

well, that's an issue with dramas which are based on the novel... some will stay true to the original story and some will deviate a lot
screenwriters decided to change plots so we could have a romance drama
I hope for a good second part of it which should focus on Yeo Luo freedom and Huan war plots will be a good one

Yes, I do agree - PY character is much better written in the novel - but we also have different course of events there, so I am keen to see where this drama is actually heading.
I only hope they will stop to turn him into some cringe guy...
