She is acting very well and drama is not bad at all, so as long as you didn't read the novel you may actually like it :)

Mu Bai was in the book PM soon, who was investigating Amai after she departed from Capitol (Lin Zerou knew Amai was a woman as they have met there) and his intention was to kill Amai if she would become an obstacle to the marriage of his beloved sister and Yi Zhi (apparently she had a crush on him since childhood) but Amai told him clearly that she has no romantic feelings or any interest in being a consort so he did spare her life.
Later he has to change his identity to Mu Bai and became Amai's bodyguard and he was risking his life many times to protect her

well, its too much to write being honest, drama only got a general idea from a novel and characters names - you can check my older posts, as I had been writing about it few times

unfortunately not

throwing Amai to the jail was a way to get Yi Zhi married with Lin Zerou... so he would be able to pardon her life and other criminals due to emperor's wedding
Amai first will leave with CYQ and then she will be back and enter the palace as Xu Xier will be detained there

nothing like that happened in the novel, so generally speaking 80% of drama has nothing to do with book and its just original screenplay

I think he is setting up his sister and uses Yi Zhi to protect his grandson Yuer... as PM wrote 2 succession edicts - one with Yi Zhi name and second one with Yu who is only 8 years old atm

Well we had already a lot of insignificant plots with zero logic ending as well as no continuity/impact to the whole story instead of having some proper romance build up or war which is actually somehow on hold...

They did make it much worse... Novel is more unique and focused on Amai
