I'll give this 5 stars just out of respect for the actresses because they were really good, but man this was a ride. I understand that the characters were absolutely not good people from the start and the story was about their toxic relationship, but this must be one worst lesbian representation I've ever seen and there were too much things that made no sense at all.
The relationship between the two male leads and the whole dark!hero vibe who seeks revenge reminds me a lot of Beyond Evil. But I believe that the fundamental difference between the two drama is that in Beyond Evil, they did a really good job to make the characters feel like real people, while here in The Devil Judge I found myself thinking every two seconds that even in a dystopian universe there's no way that such people can exist lmao
I never been really upset on this whole show until I saw Han Yang ending, like he was my favorite character and they did him so dirty. I mean they didn't have to give him a perfect happy ending, but come on his was the worst one...
what he don't have that emotions bcs of his character
Yeah I know that he lacks emotions because of his character and that's fine, I mean something probably happened in his past. I was saying that Kang Yo-han is a little too perfect in the other departments shsh but a lot of male leads are scripted like that so I don't consider it a flaw of the drama.
The start of the second episode was amazing, the whole dinner conversation gave me Beyond Evil's vibe, it reminded me how Lee Dong-shik used his words to play and confuse Han Joo-won. It also gave us a bit of understanding of the connection between them, maybe Kim Ga On's parents commited suicide because Chief Kang's dad and Ga On, wanting revenge, set on fire the church were he went to confess?? This could be too much of a stretch shsh
Then the cars race's scene... Well, still a bit extra, but I admit it was cool like REALLY COOL, especially when Kang Yo-han start to destroy the guy's car... Whew, that was crazy hot. At first I thought that Kang Yo-han be there was that too much of a coincidence, but then I understood that he was having the kid followed because he's the son of Minister Cha. But man, I was really glad they showed that Kang Yo-han found the listening device (he supposed to be smart and cautious, so I would have been disappointed if he didn't found it) I was like yaass give me he playing mind games and fool everyone, he seems dead set to mislead Ga On and I'm so eager to see what he has planned (Kang Yo-han really remind me of a polished, little more evil, rich version of Lee Dong-shik).
The only thing that still puzzled me a bit it's that Kang Yo-han is a bit too perfect, I mean, we know he's charismatic and smart (he's the best judge in the nation) but he's also good at shooting, physical fighting and now he can do car racing? He only seems to lack in the emotional department... But well, a lot of male lead are script like this, so it's not really a flaw.
I can't wait for the next episode, especially because this one end with a quite literal bang and now I'm so eager to know what's going on. Also the acting is top notch, I couldn't have ask for more. So glad that this drama seems to get better and better!
I really really like the cast of this drama and for now every character seems interesting and I'm curios about their background and their agenda (especially Kang Yo Han). Another positive point is that the cinematography is beautiful, but hell even if the setting is a dystopia, there are too many exaggerations in this first episode.
First, they didn't really explain well what tf happened and how we ended up in this kind of Korea, they talk about a virus or something of the sort that made the country fall in an economical crisis, but then they don't say anything else if not the people were unhappy because of it so riots started all over?? Like, give me a little more of context, how am I supposed to understand what's going on? Also, about the bill for a judicial reform? Every citizen is part or the jury? Ya, that's bullshit, in time of crisis the people who are in power tend to keep it for themselves so there are less obstacles to make the situation stable again (and I mean that things could change for better or for worse, but a stable situation arise).
Another thing that made me scoff was that withing the first 20 minutes of the drama we have Kang Yo Han shots to a terrorist who's about to run over our 2nd protagonist: miraculously the terrorist deviate his course because he's scared and because our 2nd male lead must be the kind-hearted one he goes to save the terrorist before the bus explodes so in the end nobody gets hurt. All of that was so extra that I almost started laughing. Not to mention how Kim Ga On just went spying around the Justice Court and searched documents in restricted area without no one noticing, like don't they have surveillance cameras in a place that important? And they seems also to have a more evolved technology than us, so I'm here uhm?? Also I don't think that Kim Ga On would have enough time to follow his boss around, but the best part is that there's no way you can follow a car on a BIKE like come on for real ðŸ˜
I'm so interested in this show but I really hope they'll start to make more smart choices in the following episodes shsh
The ending song of this last episode was so good?? I love Ik-jun's voice, it really fits well with the style of…
Also if the writers will make Ik-sun and Jun-wan broke up I'm gonna rage y'all can't dot that, I love them too much, I just want them to be happy... Jun-wan may be as well my favorite character, I can't watch I'm suffer come on...
Just watched the first episode and it creeped me tf out, it's much more unsettling than what was I expecting, like I want to watch this so bad but just the thought to click on the next episode is giving me anxiety
In my opinion, they could have finished perfectly with this season if they had made Lee Chang the King and raised the little prince as the bodyguard's son. I mean the kid's mother is still alive so what was the problem? Get a fake corpse for the little prince and let the real baby live peacefully, nobody will know a thing becase everyone who knows what happened is either dead or on Lee Chang's side. And let's get real, a country that's devastated from war and illness doesn't need an infant, but a king who can make decisions and knows what is doing, even if he was accused of treason; especially in this situation where almost all the ministers are dead. But the story went how they wanted it to be so... It could still be a good ending without the last minute's twist with the crown prince that (guess what?) is not actually cured but still infected. It wasn't really necessary and it was also a bit forced, everyone else is well, why he isn't? Is it because Seo-bi didn't immerge him /fully/ in the water? At this point I really hope they'll make a season 3 and that the plot doesn't go awry because so far it is one of the best drama I've seen.
No dying:) wishful thinking born illusion maybe? Or maybe Shang laoban is still running while they're shown waiting…
Yeah, I also don't mind open ending (even if Boss Shang didn't go with Mr. Cheng to Hong Kong, I'd like to think that they would keep in touch one way or another and maybe with time they would be able to see each other again), but I agree that the 'gift' ending is much more satisfying, it fits just right: the sorrow and the longing in their farewell mixed with the memories their shared together and the last wretched hope that the other will choose them. Even if it's nothing more than a wishful illusion, it's truly fitting to be the last chapter of their story.

Is this for real the ending they had in mind? It made a lot more sense (especially the flashbacks) and even if it's not the real ending, I think I'll just believe it is.
I'm so damn happy about this adaptation of Hikaru no Go. I hadn't much hope at first, but I'm so glad that I watched this, even if the story differs from the original plot in the last part of the show, it's written well and I enjoyed every bit of it.
I must admit that maybe I grew more affectionate to these characters than the originals in the manga; I just fell in love with them, especially Hong He and Chu Ying. To be fair, every actor did a splendid job and I think that's why the adaptation did turn out so well: everyone understood their character and made them alive. Hong He was really a pleasant surprise, I absolutely loved every moment he was on screen, he made me laugh and cry and I just wanted to have him as best-friend. The actor did an incredible job playing Hong He, my attention just gravitated towards him unconsciously, really. I think he is probably my favorite character of the entire drama. And what can I say about Chu Ying? The actor absolutely captured the very essence of his character and I loved him as much I was fond of Sai in the manga, he's just adorable. I was so entertained by his and Shi Guang's interactions, it was a joy to watch their friendship grow and develop; also episodes 32-33 made me crying non-stop, I was devastated, even if I knew That was coming. I want to make a honorable mention to Fang Xu, for some reason, be it here or in the manga, his character never stop to amuse me and the actor did really a great job handling him. His brotherly relationship with Yu Liang never failed to make me smile and his growth was the one I appreciated more.
Really a must watch! If you enjoy stories about friendship and growth, I passionately recommend you to give this drama a try!

Also I kinda pity Han Se Joo like there's so much happening in his life, I can understand why he feels so confused and acts that harshly,,
