I know he said he kept in touch with her through letters. If he did visit, they must have been short visits and then he went back abroad. His grandfather took him and his father abroad when he was still young, and he never saw grandma again for a long time. It sounds like he was close to his grandma as a kid because she said he cried before he left. Grandma seems to think his grandson thinks more about his work than her because she told him he didn't' need to see her if he's busy and then she said so what do you want to see me about and he assured her that he came to see her because he was concern for her, not looking for something from her.

isn't the first 12 episodes concerning her marriage proposal really not so much about the bf as much as it is about laying out the dynamics of her personal and working relationship with YZM? After the unfortunate blowup in their family luncheon meet up, they don't really show the fl with the bf much.

I want to know his past and better understand his relationship with grandma; also, YZM has a deep friendship with a girl abroad who was his study partner, I wonder if she shows up in this drama.

fl has no idea how wealthy grandma is and although grandma only blood relative is the grandson, but I think fl is more precious to grandma. So far, grandma and grandson are cordial, polite, respectful, affectionate, etc. but seem a little distant too. Grandma is extremely close to fl. It's almost like grandma raised her in a way, giving her guidance as she's growing up.

the one that jumps to mind is when she apologized to her mom and gave her a present (earrings) and baked her a cake. another time, mother and daughter lay in bed together and talking sweetly to each other. there were few other scenes.

there is a lovely sister brother scene too when she buys her brother noodles and says to him, eat slowly, you don't have to share with anyone, and if you want more, I buy you more.
these two grew up poor. the brother didn't even have a room of his own, the mother eats leftovers, etc.

Like how the father bought them popsicle, and that can bring so much joy. It's really the simple things of life that is most meaningful.

YZM is ruthless so I'm not sure if he's being sincere or playing with her mind when he says to her:
"A family like the Xin's will only allow woman to thrive in the kitchen or the garden and nowhere else"

the mother and father are simple poor people with old fashioned values. They're from the countryside. In the old days, there were arranged marriages, so the idea of marriage is different with each generation. There is a clash of generation and clash of social status.

there are lovely mother daughter moments in this drama

The parents are from the "country". No wonder I enjoy their characters. Their mannerisms and the way the mother acts resonate with me. The father's looks and mannerisms are so perfect for his role.
