okay just finished and I knew it was coming but literally fck that ending. are we lying right now😭 I need more…
Yep, the ending definitely screwed with people's hearts. Lots of tears were shed. I positioned myself into the hopeful side of the open ending out of necessity. 😅 So I believe he will return at some point, once his essence has healed enough. If you want closure you can read the epilogue chapters of the novel it's based on, which has a full happy ending where he does come back. Those chapters are in the discussion boards.
Not a remake but they did buy the rights to use the face blindness/female transformation element from The Beauty Inside. Everything else is original I believe.
Are there two different versions of this drama? What's the difference?
Why do you think there are two versions? I believe there is only the official version being released through Youku. It's a Youku drama. (it's slowly being released on Viki too atm but this is the same version I believe)
I cannot say that I like that trailer very much. It seems to follow the current trend of trying to promote dramas…
The comedy element was always known and discussed elsewhere, even from the time of filming. I don't know why comedy has never been added to the tags here on MDL.
It's not rumored ... it's already shown on kiss website as coming on 7/2https://kisskh.co/Drama/As-Beautiful-As-You?id=7943
Kisskh is not an official website. Often they'll put the release date as whatever is currently rumoured. And they change the date if the rumours/melons change, or if an official announcement happens. If there hasn't been an official confirmation of the date from Tencent etc, it might not be true.
I got her falling the first time (I'm all about the little looks and expressions from stoic characters), but wasn't…
You can have more than 36 episodes. 40 episodes is the limit at the moment according to regulations. And you can even have more than that as long as you split it into two parts (For example, Lost You Forever will have 60 episodes in total)
The cast will be on Hello Saturday on June 1st for promo. Right now its rumoured to air on 15th of June (give or take) after Fox Spirit Matchmaker: red moon pact finishes airing
Good luck, and enjoy😄 come on here to tell us how it's been like for you😁
From what I've read, it was set for 50 episodes in early 2023. It was going to be split into two parts 34 episodes for part 1, and 16 episodes for part 2. There was a new rule that had come in before this about dramas not exceeding 40 episodes and if they did exceed 40 episodes then it would have to be split into two parts. Some dramas got around this rule by splitting the show into two parts but airing them back to back (Love like the Galaxy and Immortal Samsara are examples of dramas doing this)
Then in early 2023 not long before the drama aired, another new rule came in that said that the two parts could not be aired back to back and would have to have at least 6 months to a year between the airing. This is why Lost You Forever part 2 still hasn't aired yet.
So Youku and otters made a decision to condense it. We don't know for sure why but I guess they didn't want to lose hype, or risk something happening that would stop the airing. As Luo Yunxi's other drama with Otters is still unreleased (and may remain that way) I don't think they wanted to risk any part of the drama not airing given the investment. So they instead extended all the episodes by like 10 minutes, making them all longer. But inevitably had to cut scenes out too. It's possible censorship factored in too. I'd say the last arc is the most affected (so unfortunate... but I don't think it ruins the drama as a whole) I also long for a directors cut! 😂
There are a couple of minor differences between Viki and Youku because Youku went in and altered some things on their platform after the episodes aired. But other than that particular scene I think you're referring to in episode 11, it's mostly a couple of OST differences. It's mostly the same from what I could see, so I don't think it matters too much which one you watch.
I feel like there are a lot of really epic and beautiful scenes in the last 5 episodes so obviously I'd recommend to watch. But if not, fair enough! Each to their own. 😂 It's an open ending. So there is some hope there that he may return (as he does in the novel) If you do decide to finish the drama - you could always read the translated happy ending epilogue chapters of the novel that are on the discussion boards for more closure.
Douban is not reliable because there are lots of good dramas with popular actors and actresses which gets downvoted…
Douban is notoriously harsh. (& as someone said, prone to water armies etc)
A 6.7 rating on Douban for a romantic idol drama like Hidden Love is actually decent. Love is Sweet got a similar rating on Douban which is not bad for a modern romantic comedy at all. Love is Sweet was popular enough that Iqiyi gave it a fanmeet as a result, and gave LYX and BL popularity awards for it. It pretty consistently got back into Iqiyi's top 10 list in the years after it came out.
A lot of popular dramas that are considered commercial hits have Douban scores of between 6-7. There are some big ones that even have scores lower than that. I wouldn't think too much on it just yet. Just watch and judge for yourself.
And maybe watch these videos youku released too.

https://x.com/xAJx_92/status/1753366567662883227/video/1 - Li Susu's letter to TTJ.
and I also recommend this gorgeous edit by bittergace who created an edit using the epilogue quotes.

Then watch Love is Sweet for BL and LYX fluff. 😊
(I do think there will be some angst there too)
But that the likely airdate atm is the 22nd.

Their Hello Saturday episode airs June 1st so I think it will be in the next few weeks.
