Title The Heart of Genius Spoiler
Overall liked the show until the very end there. Censorship aside, why did cheese PZ go back to his world without…
I personallyl prefer an ending where Cheese PZ meets the same fate as Cheese LZX. He couldn't love her because she wasn't strawberry LZX. And strawberry LZX couldn't love Cheese PZ because he wasn't HER Pei Zei, Strawberry Pei Zei. Cosmic irony, in a sense, for cheese PZ.

Also, it's disturbing, for me, that cheese PZ is in his middle 40's when he possesses Strawberry PZ, He planned the possession, he doesn't care if strawberry PZ will live all his life as a prisoner (at least, Strawberry PZ did the right thing in the end, in cheese world, by giving LZX's letter to his father, revealing him of the truth about his son), he kind of blackmailed LZX with her father's health, to get her to accept him and to convince SPZ to go back to Cheese world.

He could do that because he is much older and very confident in himself. He is a genius who solved the equation with his master. He was famous in his world. Wealthy. He "changed the world", as he said. All that when he was around 25 years old. He was probably celebrated wherever he went, beloved, people bowing to him.

Then he mentioned the next 20 years, still trying to find a way to go to strawberry world. It's a very old Lin who finally gave him the letter and we see that he has grey hair and is in a wheelchair. So he must be around... 70 years old. Therefore CPZ is, at that time, 45 years old.

Who wants to possess his younger double. But mentally, he is still 45, while LZX is 25.

Not ideal. There's nothing bad with age gap, if the characters are in love. And live in good conditions. But here, all this planification on stealing SPZ's body and life, lying to Strawberry LZX plus trying to use her father's health to get her to accept him... on top of the age gap? Yeah, I can't get behind that couple.

It depends. I watched both dramas and personally, I prefered The heart of genius. It's less repetitive than Reset…
I don't know, maybe other people on this site could answer you. I just know that when it comes to dramas dealing with time traveling, it's always the same in the end: you watch 99% of the drama time traveling with the characters only to learn in the end that it was a dream, a coma, traveling to another dimension, or traveling into a book, a movie, and so on.

The trick for the writers is to come up with an explanation that is not really time travel, while it's so obviously time travel that it's almost comical to watch how the writers will trick censorship.

I mean, for "The heart of genius", the characters are time-traveling/parallel world jumping for 99,99% of the time. Then near the end, there's this scene where the FL is in a park, reading parts of her new book to little kids, which is the drama we saw".

Then after that short scene which is there to pass censorhip, we go back to the characters of the dramas, and we see their reunion.

So it ends on the characters we've been following for 34 episodes. You can remove that "author scene with the kids" and the drama is just back to what it always was, a time traveling/parallel world traveling drama.

For some, it's infuriating. I've been watching modern time travels Cdrama and I'm used to it and I know that those last minute twists/explanations are just there so that the drama doesn't get cancelled. So in my mind, I know what the real ending is supposed to be and that it wasn't on screen because of censorship.

If you want a romantic/mysterious time travel drama which ends as a real time traveling drama, I suggest "First love again". Wonderful, wonderful drama, the best way is to binge-watch it because episodes end on cliffhangers. It was hell watching it "live" last summer.

basically in every TimeTravel/Parallel Dramas youll expect this kind of ending and will either treat it as nonexistent…
Exactly, that's what I posted above. Forget the 2 minutes scene of SLZX in the grass with the kids (added to bypass censorship) and go directly to the last scene by the sea. That's the real ending.

I haven't started this, but if you've finished watching can you tell me how satisfying it is compared to Reset?…
It depends. I watched both dramas and personally, I prefered The heart of genius. It's less repetitive than Reset and it's more emotionally engaging. I guess it really depends on what you prefer to watch.

The ending is... I liked it and I'm not that surprised by it because when it comes to time travel and changes made because of time travel, censorship comes into play and writers have to find a loophole to pass by the censorship.

So basically, there's a 2 minutes scene near the end which you could remove because this scene was added to bypass censorship but it's not the ending of the drama because there's still 5 minutes after that scene.

It's just a trick the producing team came up with to satisfy the censorhip comity, IMO.

Title The Heart of Genius Spoiler
you are aware there is censorship broadcast regulation regarding fantasy/time travel/parallel world dramas in…
I think every ending for those kinds of dramas are to be taken as "not" the real endings. Like "The day of becoming you". Once I realized that, it made watching those dramas easier because it meant that the endings weren't the ones the writers had in mind and wanted us to see.

So basically, "The heart of genius" and "The day of becoming you"? the stories were real in the dramas so what I was watching was the real drama for 99% of the time. The last 1% was like... someone else stealing the plot and writing its own ending, which wasn't the one planned.

The real ending was supposed to be bittersweet, with Old Lin dying in the Strawberry world and CPZ going back to his world because LZX was in love with SPZ.

By the way, the CPZ we saw in those last episodes? He was in his early 40's. He was successful in cheese world, he said he changed the world, mentioned the next 20 years after that, how he bought LZX's old house, and we could see Old Lin's back, he was old, in a wheelchair and he had grey hair.

So Old Lin was probably in his 70's, and therefore CPZ was in his early or late 40's.

CLZX was really messed up, though. The body jumping just... destroyed her relationship with CPZ and her self- confidence to such a level that once she got successful, she never stopped working, even missing old friends's reunions. Maybe she wanted to prove herself that by being rich, successful, she was better than SLZX and proving to CPZ that she was as good, if not better than SLZX?

In the end, CPZ couldn't love CLZX because she wasn't SLZX, who was the way she is because of her upbringing and her life in strawberry world.

And CPZ met the same fate as CLZX: strawberry LZX couldn't love him because he wasn't HER SPZ, the one she had grew up with and who had lost his father.

That's why I think the "original ending" (had chinese censorship not messed it up), would have been CPZ going back to his world.

Damn, you're probably right! I was wondering how he had been able to come while SPZ was conscious, just before…
Possibly, about the mental illnesses in both PZ's. Still, I think strawberry PZ's moral compass is a bit stronger than cheese PZ. Maybe because he suffered more than cheese PZ (losing his father, his mother being to blame for that, the mother preventing him from studying what he loved, transfering her fear to her son and triggering episodes or the "illness"...)

Cheese PZ still had his parents, studied math, was a famous mathematician who solved the equation, but he obsessed over strawberry LZX while following around cheese LZX, who could see through him, that he didn't love her.

There's something more disturbing with cheese PZ, IMO. But it's possible it's due to the same mental illness as strawberry PZ. Except that since he had everthing in his life... making him look stable, inside, he might not have been at all.

Let's just say that I don't envy Strawberry LZX right now, she has a real deranged guy who is just obsessed with her and is a stalker. He stalked cheese LZX, and now strawberry LZX.

Who knows how he could react to her rejecting him?

So it looks like the mother parallel travelled, too? When exactly? And does this mean she was the one to solve the equation first and not cheese PZ ? I think we will never get a clear answer as to how those jumps to parallel worlds work eactly.

So I guess CPZ never went back to Cheese after giving the photo to LZX and the recorder to SPZ. He hypnotized…
Damn, you're probably right! I was wondering how he had been able to come while SPZ was conscious, just before the boxing match but then he fainted and it was probably CPZ taking over at this time. Good observation. I was wondering how CPZ had done it because so far, the jumps happened in the building outside LZX's home.

But if CPZ never left and just hypnotized himself to go to sleep and to wake up at a specific time to take over... my god, it's next level scary. Like, really, deranged, obsessed, mentally sick CPZ. And he behaves like a criminal too, having planned to steal SPZ's life.

That's... it makes me want to go back and watch the first episodes with kid CPZ because maybe there was already something wrong with him back then and we just didn't see it. Like, he never seemed to show emotions or to smile. He developped what we thought was a cute crush but what if it was the beginning of his obsession for LZX? After all, he even went to the same class as CLZX to stay with her, because he had transfered his feelings for SLZX to CLZX and it didn't work but still he followed her everywhere, even to the detriment of his own studies.

Was SPZ also this way as a kid?

Because as CPZ said, even if they are the same, they are not the same people. SPZ has inherited genes CPZ hasn't but what if the contrary is true, too? What if CPZ has some... tendancies (controlling, violence, obsessive behavior) that SPZ doesn't have?

I think it started with the first jump, since LZX stayed for a few months there and it was conoslidated with the second jump.

Ohj good point, I didn't think about the letter being written by LZX's mother. But I thought she died giving birth, she couldn't have written the letter, though? I mean, unless she or her double travelled to the parallel world and saw the future, not the past, and therefore that she would die during childbirth? So she wrote that letter after having travelled and seeing her daughter only once.

God, that's so complicated and if true, how did this letter ended up in CPZ's hands?

The difference is that SPZ didn't plan everything and even if he wanted to stay there, he learned that he would be stealing his double's life who would stay imprisoned in his own mind. He even gave LZX's letter to his father, knowing that it meant the end of his stay with this happy family.

CPZ, on the contrary, planned the jump, planned stealing SPZ's life forever, planned keeping him in jail forever, planned abandoning his parents, planned the "talk" with SPZ, giving him the choice of either stay a prisoner in his own mind, seeing his double living his life with LZX, or get back to cheese world.

While he had left of his own free will this world, knowing that he couldn't stay and it wasn't his world.

That's the difference between the two PZ's.

I don't even know what to say. I loved CPZ as a child and now I want to cry because I don't want him to be evil.…
Okay, thanks. I thought that SPZ wasn't feeling well because of the revelations about his grandfather his mother's fear and that this fear+being taken over = the mental illness.

So it's not the case?

What about the letter? It's the letter which started it all, right? Was it written by Cheese PZ? He said that he had solved the equation, which allowed him to come to strawberry world but in the past and SLZX hadn't jumped yet so he gave her the pic because for a jump to occur, there needs to be an object from the parallel world?

In that case, the equation was written on the wall by.. both Old Lins? And cheese PZ wanted to solve the equation and worked all his life for that because he wanted to be with Strawberry LZX and he succeeded, which allowed him to jump to Strawberry World.

But in doing so, he gave the pic to LZX so that... she could jump to his world and meet young cheese PZ and therefore gave him the idea to work for solve the equation.

My heard hurts, is that some kind of parallel world loop?

He belongs in a horror film gosh. I'm really creeped out by him.
That's because contrary to SPZ, CPZ planned everything. He talked with his father but what did it mean? his body would remain in cheese world but his consciousness would be in strawberry world. Meaning, if he spends his entire life in strawberry world, does this mean that his body stays in a coma? Because even if one second passed by in strawberry world during the first jump, this jump lasted a few weeks so if a jump lasts for 60 years, how much time passes by in cheese world, a few years? Meaning a comatose ¨PZ there?

Also, he knew he would be stealing SPZs body and would keep him in "jail", but he didn't mind. He wants his life and Strawberry LZX so to hell with SPZ.

The bunker room at the gym club meant that he had all it planned before hand. Same with destroying the formula on the wall.

So yeah, he is extremely scary and I hope that LZX will see through him and will put him in his place. I just hope he won't turn violent, because right now, he is like a deranged obsessed stalker.

Also, I get now why cheese LZX hated strawberry LZX for stealing the boy she loved. She saw through cheese PZ and knew he didn't love her but her double.

Sigh, I don't know how it will end. Logically, CPZ should be kicked out and sent to his world. Let's hope that when that happens, he'll be back to a more normal state after realizing that LZX will never love him and that he will forget the idea of staying in this world.

Can someone explain to me the letter? the one which started it all? Who wrote it and when? one of the PZ's or someone else?

Holy Guacamole, Cheese world PZ scares me to death! He is... okay, I have no word. I hope that strawberry LZX will discover the switch and that strawberry PZ will be strong enough to break free. I hope that just like cheese PZ realized he wasn't in love with cheese LZX, he will see that despite all his efforts, he will never be the one that strawberry LZX loves.

Can someone help me: when Cheese PZ was talking to strawberry PZ, in the bunker like room, he mentioned the seizure that SPZ had. Does this mean that CPZ had taken over him at that time and because of SPZ's mother's obsession and fear, which she transfered to her son, once he was free of CPZ, he couldn't remember and had this seizure, this "mental illness", which wasn't one in fact?

Those episodes had a different feel, maybe because it's reality world now, with all the problems that comes with it. We can see Old Lin's illness progressing and it's heartbreaking.

Also, personally, I was bored with the gambling part, just like I was bored with the math competition with the kids in the first part of the show.

But it seems to pick up with Old Lin's thesis and what really happened. I'm not sure how they can prove it, though. The one who probably stole his thesis has passed away a long time ago.

Sigh, not happy if this rumor is true. When on earth will this drama air?
I have read that Deng Lun's situation is less tragic than others with tax evasion problems and that his name is still in past dramas so he hasn't been erased, is it true? If it is, what does that mean, that if his situation is fixed, he could come back.

There's really not a single chance to see this drama, even outside China? Like, it couldn't be sold to Netflix ?

I realize that PZ's mother is damaged because of her father but she is hard to like. Still, her son loves her and he wants to help her in any way he can since he tried to ask cheese world mum what she would like.

She has a huge responsability in PZ's father's death. Her crazyness whenever are mentioned math and her son in the same sentence led to this big fight and to her throwing her husband's helmet out of the window, leading to him having no protection when he had that accident. It was an accident, but one where had his helmet been intact, he would have survived.

And she is ruining her son's life, too. I think strawberr y PZ's journey is to face his mother, be courageous and follow the path that truly make him happy, aka mathematics. And keep boxing as a hobby.

For me, it's the contrary because I relate to strawberry LZX and her father. She loves him , he is sick and she won't abandon him. I can so relate to her. I have a mentally handicapped sister and I can't imagine abandon her to live a happy life knowing she is alone and suffering.

But yeah, PZ's desire to stay is also understandable. It's just that I think about cheese world PZ a prisoner inside his own mind, and strawberry PZ's mother.

This drama is such a happy surprise, it wasn't even on my radar before it aired.
