So from now on all costume dramas must make sure maids are sluts.
I wrote one line mentioning that part in my first comment. My first comment didn't rely solely on this specific part of the story. The people replying are just stuck on that specific line which is why I've ended up replying a lot of times about this. Also I did mention in my first comment that the drama is still enjoyable but the behavior of the characters (in my opinion) is unrealistic a lot in the drama. The lightning in the drama seems to try to make this drama seem more "serious" or "mature" in some way but then the writing seems to not really match the lightning either. I do like the lightning but just wished the writing matched it more.
Well not all men are lustful. Besides, he was gone for 3 years and he just had his coming of age ceremony, so…
The ML is not 15 years old but even if he was then 15 year old boys also has lust for girls. I think it's you having watched too many dramas if you honestly think that it's realistic that a guy with a harem of girls is not going to fool around with any girl.
So from now on all costume dramas must make sure maids are sluts.
There are many dramas out there that doesn't specifically tells us the prince surrounded by a harem of girls doesn't touch any. I guess because majority of writers know or probably should know that it's unrealistic. I wasn't expecting the drama to show us explicitly that he "misbehaves" (you'd assume that at least a few of those girls would be willing considering the number of girls at his service) but the drama goes out of it's way to show us that this guy has a two football team worth of pretty girls around him. Then also goes out of it's way to tell us he's such a "clean" guy he doesn't fool around with any of those girls. I personally find it unrealistic writing.
Well not all men are lustful. Besides, he was gone for 3 years and he just had his coming of age ceremony, so…
Yea okay if you honestly believe that it's realistic that a guy like the ML having 20+ pretty girls around him wouldn't have any sexual relationship with any of those girls then I don't know what to tell you. Also you don't think 15 year old boys doesn't think about girls? That's not adding to the fact that the ML hardly looks 18... He looks in his late twenties or early thirties. Again the writing in these cases is just not that realistic - including the woman from the brothel not getting punished at all.
You're funny. I agree that the father and the son have an unusual relationship. XFN is weird and that's just how…
Again as I wrote to the other person. They didn't have to show us anything specific but the writer went out of his way to tell us that the prince doesn't touch any of the girls - the writer didn't have to. That's just bad character writing for me. Also this drama is clearly not in the modern world. Do you honestly think a prince or rich people in that period of time didn't fuck their maids if they had 20 pretty and young maids to be around him.? And do you think girls that are poor enough that they are maids for a rich person/prince wouldn't go out of their way trying to get in favor of the prince?
So from now on all costume dramas must make sure maids are sluts.
Yea nobody said that - that's a strawman. The drama writer made sure to go out of the way to tell the viewers that the prince never touches any of the 20+ girls he has in his place? That shit is unrealistic as hell. The drama didn't have to show us anything but it's unrealistic and stupid as hell writing trying to make us believe that a prince in that situation wouldn't get it on with at least one of the many pretty girls to serve him.
lol she is not maid bro,she is the sole princess of another country and he knew she won't really kill him.
The woman is still a maid at this point and you are telling me non of all these girls are maids. That's just not correct. I wasn't talking about the maid when I said the woman trying to kill the prince didn't get punished. I was talking about the woman in the brothel who was taken in after failing to kill the prince.
I mean I think the actress is fine until now. The drama seems to be focused primarily on the ML in his way to become king and even though she's listed as "main lead" then she's probably more of a support role and I hope they keep it that way. There are so many Chinese dramas like this that turn out to revolve around a female lead with multiple men somehow falling in love with her instead of keeping the focus on the male lead.
This is only based on the few episodes having been aired until now. The drama is enjoyable enough to watch but the characters behave in a very unrealistic way. I mean even if the "world" and "powers" are unrealistic that doesn't mean the characters should make no sense either. You are telling me this prince having all these pretty maids never touches anyone? Yea okay. Then we have the relationship between king and son. I mean it's fine and all if that happened in private but the disrespect out in the open in front of the maids etc. is so stupid even if I get that it's supposed to be funny. The prince cleaning the table when his maid is sitting right there also make zero sense and is unrealistic behavior. That woman trying to kill the prince but not getting punished at all. Again I get that some of these are supposed to be funny but yea I guess it's probably a hit or miss whether you find it funny or just a bit stupid. That said the drama is still funny to watch majority of the time and enjoyable until now. I just wish they'd at least try to make characters that were just a bit realistic in terms of behavior. That said I see some people complain about the lightning. I prefer the darker lightning - it's way better than that bright lightning in many Chinese dramas.
The target audience of 99% of romance dramas are women and far majority of drama writers (especially romance) are women also. They show women in that way because they want the ML to take care of the female lead. The majority of women watching these dramas enjoy watching ML take care of FL when she's vulnerable. Throwing the sexism card or misogynist card at everything is stupid as fuck. Why do you think majority of dramas have ML cooking for female lead and female lead being a lousy cook? Do you think that is actually true to Asian society? Or do you think this is the case because the female audience want to see ML cook for FL? I'm pretty damn sure in most Asian countries women cook more than men - yet in dramas the ML is usually the better cook and more often we have ML cooking for FL instead of the opposite.
Yea she did. That just happened off-screen in flashbacks (probably when) she came home late and drunk or maybe on some other time not shown in the movie. In the hospital she admits that she cheated on him. Also she would have cheated again if that woman had not stopped her. That said then I don't get why Japanese movies make it seem like every Japanese woman is a cheater. The two women of the two male *main* characters in the movie cheated.
The drama is pretty bad. The problem with the drama is that the characters are unrealistic and over-the-top. In real life people are not like that. And those that are over-the-top fucked up are rarely all around the same person. Also it's tiring when movies/dramas purposely make the husband bad and pathetic just to justify the wife having an affair. This is something that's done time and time again and gets tiring.
So are you telling me Fmc had an affair but her husband is still trying to protect her??? What a simp husband…
Yea I mean that's what happens when a media is clearly targeted towards one gender. If you are not the targeted gender you'll most likely not agree with the portrayals. You'll probably have more luck with Japanese shows (the slightly older shows). The newer shows are more and more like Korean shows.
I don't think it's fair to judge based on dramas. At the end of the day majority of dramas are written by women for women. As the target market are women then writers make male characters that women likes too see. Basically self sacrificing male leads that love FL unconditionally.
Why is the ML LIKE THAT?? IT ANNOYS ME SO MUCH..HE MARRIED HER FOR "LOVE" AND SHE MARRIED HIM BECAUSE SHE "NEEDS"…
I agree with your first part. The drama is unrealistic as hell but I don't think it's well written. There are so many idiotic characters that doesn't make any sense that I can't consider it well written. One example is the husband. A good script make the characters actions believable. This didn't do that.
It's so interesting. I'm not that interested in Directors' and writers' gender so I don't pay attention to it…
I watched it three months ago so I simply do not remember the details because I didn't enjoy it that much - sorry. In general when I write something like this then it's usually due to the relationships not making sense to me or the characters behave in a weird or unrealistic way that kind of give it away a woman wrote the script. The same way that if characters behave in a weird way you can also sometimes figure out that it's a man who has written the script. A good example is the golfer-porn actress situation. If the golfer was not that good looking then sure he might get together with a porn actress and fight that much for their relationship but even then it's rare for something like this to last. But a good looking guy is not going to get in a serious relationship with a porn actress if he could get any other hot girl easily - which the golfer can. The entire story also turns very melodramatic. The drama has a murder case but focuses pretty much only on the relationships between the characters. And most importantly the doctor in love with her doesn't make any sense. Why would he keep their relationship a secret to his friend? That make no sense. The FL dumbed him and went to his friend. The first thing you do as a friend is warn your friend about her. Heck even if he didn't consider the ML his friend then the first thing you do is also tell the ML about her to mess her up after dumbing him like that. Why would he still want her after being dumbed like that? You can see the exact same type of storytelling in the drama Misty also - which also make it obvious it's a woman having written that show.
Please spoil me the ending, Has she also died in the end?
In the end she's seen standing looking out at the ocean while wearing the bracelet given by the ML. Whether she's dead/about to kill herself or is just looking out to remember the ML and waiting to join him later is for you to decide.
Also I did mention in my first comment that the drama is still enjoyable but the behavior of the characters (in my opinion) is unrealistic a lot in the drama.
