It's refreshing in cdrama to see young adults being portrayed as mature people.

SML senses something is off but don't act on it. He had multiple chances to explain and even ask the FL what the heck is going on but doesn't. He himself is the problem. His own hesitation is what eventually holds him back and makes him lose the FL.
The thing that pisses me off about the SML is that he is highly capable of being nice to any and everyone other than the FL. Like we can see from what Chris said that he does have the "charm" that people like but yet he treats the FL like trash
