I definitely recommend Ten Miles because although it's a totally different story, it does serve as a sort of precursor to Pillow Book. There are characters that appear in Pillow Book that have a more in depth story told in Ten Miles.

I doubt he got drunk for real while shooting the scene because I'm pretty sure they only used water as the props. BUT I did hear about way back before he got casted for his role, he got drunk at a meal with the director and allegedly he was all like "I'm taking the role of Fan Xian for sure"

Are you referring to the Emperor or Second Prince? The Emperor makes it quite obvious that he knew from the start but it is uncertain for the Second Prince (I don't want to say much because this is a spoiler)

HOB is super long but the story itself is a bit more similar to MDZS than SVSSS is to MDZS. I think most people would agree that MDZS is overall the best (probs mainly because WangXian is her best couple). But in terms of writing and story, HOB is definitely written more sophisticatedly and I personally found the story more complex than MDZS.

yea the beginning few episodes were too dull and lacked any emotional aspects for me, but it is starting to get better now in the 20s. Will continue!

Yes yes yes! I read that scene exactly the same way. And yea Yan Bingyun + Fan Xian would be a very interesting duo and they are both cunning in their own ways. Very excited to see how the story develops. Nice talk haha
