That was powerful. Initially I thought the grandpa was implying that if Jinqi can turn his back on his parents and go to the emperor directly for his marriage, then he can do the same thing in the future, like ignoring his parents and choosing the emperor...but it seems like grandpa was just warning Jinqi that just as the emperor can give, he can also take, with possible dire consequences for the lin family. Like what grandfather said, serving the emperor is like living beside a tiger. Better to live far from him, in Jinling!

just started ep 30 - I can't believe that Lan Xiang has to go back & live in the old Shen residence! that is too much 💔 Jin Qi has no clue what's going on with Lan Xiang 😭

What the heck? He drugged her? I'm flabbergasted! 🫨 The man has no shame. He looked so sheepish too. Oh gawd him saying after she fainted: "From now on, you must never drink carelessly when you're out." This is not the way to make her come around lol! Also really has no shame asking her parents for permission to go to the capital! What a character.

Ep 27 was so epic! Again, so much happened, and so many great moments. You could really tell throughout how happy Jin Qi was, lol. Meanwhile, LanXiang is seething with anger beneath the red veil. The acting between them during the great slap scene was so good! I can't get over it. Also the scene when LX was alone with Yuchan, Gantang & Xiaolian afterwards was so touching 💓

I think it's also cuz her parents esp her mother felt like she owed LX's mother and wanted to protect her at all costs and give her the best life possible. I remember She didn't even want LX to serve as a maid at the manor of the family she felt was responsible for LX family's demise. So for her to go back as Jin Qi official wife would have Shen family rolling in their graves in opposition.

I know! I just finished ep 25 and the preview to 26. Jeez, the reactions of the Lin parents & grandparents (& even LanXiang's parents!) really show how class divisions were so strictly upheld back in those times and so it makes perfect sense that the thought of Jin Qi as a romantic partner would never cross LanXiang's mind! Jin Qi is so smart, he just cut through all social barriers by going directly to the emperor. I didn't think he would be punished though seeing that the emperor ordered the marriage! Not a big fan of the Lin elders now.

Also nice addition in this ep how Scholar Lu implicitly understood Lan Xiang's true family origins!
