so far, so good! Are we really getting a healthy green flag relationship and well-written capable FL?? Cdrama gods have blessed us, pls pls don't let plotline go haywire later on
Yeah, transmigration is banned but tbh it seems like the script kept the modern thinking for Jiman even though…
thanks! I blanked on the word transmigration haha but that's what meant. Good to know, bc I was wondering if they were gonna keep the modern mindset as that was key to og plot.
PXR means I gotta watch this! Seems like the script totally removed her being from modern world. So world- or time-travelling is also banned now unless it's into a virtual world/game?
The premise is great but the execution falls flat...luckily there's enough chemistry between the cast to make this work. It's kind of a hidden gem in some ways. Not perfect but enjoyable and surprisingly heartwarming.
ok final thoughts, just watched the finale Disappointed all around, apparently this follows the original source pretty closely so I can only blame the novel for the weak and messy plotline, both regarding the murder case and FL's personal life.
Cinematography was great ( as to be expected from Light On series) and Song Jia is a wonderful actress. Wang Yang was memorable in Under the Microscope so I was looking forward to seeing him, but his character here was so unlikeable.
final scene was truly baffling and infuriating to watch, I cannot... 6.5/10 and maybe that's generous
Oh for sure he is a terrible person. Because in this new woke world we are all guilty of crimes of intent before…
Interesting, I don't see it having to do anything with wokeness.
I'm not the biggest fan of how the FL is written or her communication style at home (I don't think interrogating your husband is the healthiest approach!) but from my understanding he had cheated already (physically w writer woman, although he later gaslights her and denies this), tried to set up another affair with an ex-student and then lied about the hotel rooms, breaking her trust.
We may differ in our individual opinions of the definition of cheating but I think everyone who watched the show can agree that he broke her trust. It's no surprise that with her job, her mind is racing to worst conclusion but it's undeniable her instincts were absolutely correct as to his motives when he booked the hotel room. After getting caught in his lies, he tries to guilt trip her by "admitting" to anything and everything, which is v manipulative behaviour, instead of just telling her the truth.
Honestly, I wish they had gotten divorced earlier and that she lets go of the toxic relationship but I was just surprised by how angry comments on this page are towards the FL. Lots of comments are painting the husband as the victim, which is laughable to me.
Oh dear... what is it with historical kdramas in 2023? They are just not... good. I guess I am waiting until this…
Agreed. So far, so bland. 2022 gave us a couple of great sageuks in Under the Queen's Umbrella and Forbidden Marriage so I'm hopeful something decent gets released soon.
wowwww all the comments here roasting just the FL are wild to me her husband is a toxic, manipulative gaslighter when he admitted to being "arrogant" back when they were dating, that was some serious foreshadowing.
he booked the hotel rooms, was ready for an affair the second time. His obvious lie about the hotel rooms is what has sparked her intuition that he's lying and that he's been at least emotionally cheating on her before. He even gaslit the writer woman and lied that he hadn't physically cheated with her. It's laughable to me that people are defending the husband as if he's the victim.
So, this was decent but it could have been so, so much better. The plot went wobbly and the overarching motives were very weak. Enjoyed the cinematography, but when the plotline is weak, not even Kiritani Kenta looking cool af can entirely save a drama.
Totally agree with your last point. I was watching The Glory and was pretty distracted by the thick layer of foundation…
I agree that many Jdramas don't try to hide natural skin, and it's something I really enjoy. I was just watching a Cdrama xianxia and there were so many blurring and whitening filters used that the actors' and actresses' faces don't even seem human anymore. It's kinda creepy. I'm not judging any country or culture's aesthetics but I wish more dramas (C- & K- in particular) would chill on the filters and heavy makeup because there is nothing shameful about natural skin, texture, moles, freckles, scars etc
I'm 3 eps in..so far so good, but I just needed to comment here...why is the reporter always lugging around a little handycam? It's so conspicuous that it makes me lol, and the drama is set in the modern smartphone era so it makes no sense at all. Plus he's never even looking at the viewfinder so whatever he's filming is shaky af and unusable.
For now virtual games are allowed bc it's not reincarnation/spiritual aka their reason for banning in first place
Good to know, bc I was wondering if they were gonna keep the modern mindset as that was key to og plot.
