I've been struggling with this show because I expected more from the king, but once I accepted that his character is the weakest here and put my focus on YJ, everything became much more interesting. I'd rather think of this as her story with him as a distant supporting character because each time he starts crying for no reason while proclaiming all the things he wants to do but apparently cannot, I get annoyed.
The cinematography is great, but this is supposed to be a character driven show and so far, only YJ has shown any sort of development. Even Councillor Park has been one note from the beginning, only to suddenly declare that he's the people's champion now and we're supposed to forget all the evil he's done? No thanks. I think the only other character I like is the Queen Dowager because she's doing a lot with very little and delivering quite well. I can tell she's trying to make the best of a position she never wanted and is trying to survive the only way she knows how. It's tragic but compelling.
I thought this was going to be a learning journey for Tol as well as for Tin, but so far, Tol has just remained the same in every loop and in spite of every interaction. They don't even show him being a reluctant a*shole to Rit so we can excuse it as peer pressure, so I have no reason to want him to survive beyond wanting Tin to get out of this loop so he can move on with his life. Tin's mission also seems to keep growing with every episode and I wonder if he will actually be able to accomplish everything they've set up - stopping the corrupt doctor and ending what looks like an organ trafficking scheme, and saving Rit and Tol (and now Fang).
I'm still very much invested in this show and I want to see how it all unfolds, but I don't like Tol right now and Tin doesn't seem to have learned anything about how to handle him in spite of the numerous loops. I think maybe I would feel better if we got more of an insight into who Tol is as a person before the end of each loop but it's still just surface level.
I think Eun Si Woo could've just written Tae Sung a letter with all the things she wants to tell him instead of turning up to ruin his life yet again. Let him decide if he wants to read it after news comes that she died in a foreign country or something π
Really tired of the "I was a horrible parent but now I've decided to take part in my child's adult life because I may have a terminal illness so everyone should support me" trope that kdramas love to throw out. Why can't they just be bad parents to the end, or at the very least have some shame for their past actions? This idea that children have to make nice with parents who have treated them like dirt until it was no longer convenient to do so just feels extremely toxic to me. I don't care what life-changing event ESW may be going through, that doesn't give her the right to barge into Tae Sung's life and try to claim some sort of privilege as his mother. Should've remembered she was his mother when she was neglecting him. They may try to throw in a flashback of how she longed for her child blah blah blah, I'm not really interested. Even if there was a misunderstanding in the past, her actions in the present are inexcusable.
I would like Tae Sung and the lawyer to become very good friends, especially if they go the route of pairing the lawyer with OHB's best friend. Then they can have cute, competitive double dates together βΊοΈ
I think Ji Woo falling for Ro-A is mirrored by Yu Na falling for Ji Woo - they spent time together, they're comfortable…
Also, maybe it's just me, but it felt like the online post about them eating and the reaction from the *entire* school was a plot point from like 10 years ago. I know the world is always more conservative than we think, but I'm not sure such an adverse reaction is something we'd see in 2022, especially among university students.
I think Ji Woo falling for Ro-A is mirrored by Yu Na falling for Ji Woo - they spent time together, they're comfortable around each other, and feelings happen. It was kind of obvious from the start that Ji Woo felt something for Ro-A... I still remember how he got hot for no reason on their first date π and how he just kept staring at Ro-A whenever they were together. I don't think it's a sudden transfer of affection but rather just him getting the thing he thought he wanted - going out with Yu Na - only to realize it's not what his heart wants after all.
There have been a lot of not-so-subtle hints about Ji Woo liking Ro-A so I'm not surprised to see that when he finally gets a confession from Yu Na, it doesn't evoke the sparks and butterflies he expected. I think Ji Woo is really dense about romance (Yu Na had to literally spell out that she was confessing to him), so he probably didn't think anything of the very real butterflies and sparks he had with Ro-A until he had something concrete to compare it to.
I just think if Lee Tae really cared that much about YJ's safety, he would've left her alone, instead of stringing her along all these years only to be inevitably caught in the act by his no. 1 enemy. He could have had someone give him updates about her, without actually seeing her, or literally anything that did not involve constant contact with someone who's not supposed to exist. I would've had more fun with it if he didn't put her in this precarious situation for no reason at all.
I am curious about the left state councillor and his oddball family. His wife is as coldblooded and manipulative as he is, but somehow their son seems like a decent fellow. Interesting.
The only person I'm rooting for right now is Yoo Jung because all she did was literally exist and she keeps getting dragged into rubbish because of other people's selfish ambitions and cowardice (and stupidity).
I would absolutely love a spinoff/prequel show about Hei Feng Xi and Bai Feng Xi adventuring in the martial arts world together. I want to see when they met and when HFX fell in love with BFX, and all the times they had to escape near-death because of her antics π
I dont quite get why Huang Chao has to rule the world? He says its for the people and their well being, safety,…
HC wants the people to be safe and happy etc, but only if he's the one at the top. Basically, he's tired of having to answer to an emperor that he thinks is unworthy, and if FLX can defeat him then he can rule instead.
Lanxi said to XiYun that βI promised to your father, YOUR BROTHER and myselfβ¦,β . When did he promissed…
I assumed he was referencing the talk they had the first time they met when they had a misunderstanding about BFX, but I do sometimes feel like scenes are missing too.
-First off, I have to give a huge shout out to Zhao LuSi's performance in the death of her brother and father…
I feel like HC won't even care about YWY's secret agenda as long as it gives him what he wants. He's mentioned several times now that YWY seems a little too into the death and destruction but he's not really concerned because he has only one thing on his mind.
I'm only on episode 8 but I'm going to have to space this out cos binging it is making me mad.
Xun Xu is supposed to be very smart, if a little naive about the world, and yet he allows himself to be used and manipulated in some of the most obvious ways and it makes my blood boil. I'm currently hanging on solely for Chen Gong because he at least, is smart and capable. His mission intruiges me the most and he's working with only his wits and sheer luck π
