Min Hui's fear is understandable.

She only knew Su Tian for a short while - just a few days, it seems from what they said. And yet she has become so entangled with her for her entire life since. And she's twice experience terrible emotional pain because of it. So her attitude of withdrawal, trying to create space between her and (for her) the possibility of experiencing that pain again is understandable. But it's not ultimately going to work. Becoming emotionally detached, denying yourself from feeling love out of fear will ultimately be just as bad and damaging to her. Further, there is no way to truly disentangle herself from Su Tian anymore, ever. Because of Su Tian, she met Xin Qi. And because of that, she has Quanquan. Even if she somehow never saw Xin Qi or Chen JiaJun again, she would still be entangled with Su Tian because of Quanquan's very existence. So hopefully she and Xin Qi can resolve this quickly. Also, one has to wonder just what was Min Hui's life like before meeting Su Tian? We know pretty much nothing. We know that Min Hui was extremely upset about something and Su Tian helped cheer her up. But that's it.

A Person's Worth Shouldn't Be Measured by Their Job Title

If the family can accept Kanit for being gay, then they should also accept Toto for being a rescuer. He saves lives every single day, so why should he have to pretend to be a flight captain just to earn their respect? His profession is honest, meaningful, and helps people. That should matter far more than a prestigious job title.This is something I struggle to understand about many Asian cultures, where career status often seems to define a person's worth. I'm from Australia, and the mindset is quite different here. Some plumbers and electricians earn more than doctors and lawyers, yet people don't judge them because of their occupation. An honest job is an honest job, and everyone deserves the same respect regardless of their title. What should matter is someone's character, not the prestige attached to their profession.

The forces of love

Episode 8 begins to show more of our leads’ character. Changyang’s two-year obsession for Qianlang, his focus in planning their eventual relationship. The pain that Qiantian’s past and his acting in this episode needs recognition. The reality of Chinese culture where being gay is not generally accepted by society and parents’ expectations from their children to marry and to bear children. Because it’s a society that averages 1 child per family the pressure is steep to keep the lineage going. Other societies may not have this intense pressure but this is China. And not addressing this matter in this series would just have made this a Cinderella story.

Xin Qi comes up with a good solution to resolve the misunderstanding

He avoids having to talk about his idiot sister's meddling by simply legally giving up custody to Min Hui, trusting that her love for Quanquan will mean he'll still get to see his son no matter what. This is a huge act of sincerity and trust on his part and it rapidly repairs all the damage caused by the stupid custody lawsuit. Later, we get a low-key hilarious, near-4th-wall-breaking meta discussion between ZhiZhu and RuJi on the fate of SML characters in dramas!!! And then even more hilarious scene of a drunk Cao Mu FaceTiming w/ JiaJunj, crying / scolding / apologizing because she missed him so much all day. For once the other couples step up with some entertainment! We end with another near-miss on a kiss between the leads ...
