if you are thinking of trying a historical drama THIS IS WORTH IT
REALLY GOOD.my first historical drama, and weird that i watched this unprovoked right after coffee prince. very very funny, i love park bo gum as the ML and the FL. there's rarely any dead air, the pacing is great--except the ending felt a bit rushed and the closure was a bit meh. but really good either way.

one of the best slice of lifes
(mild spoilers)incredibly lighthearted, romantic, and one of my favourite slice of lifes. the per-episode plots are fun and you get to know all of the characters, and very funny too, especially hong du sik. every character is really fleshed out and the overall story is really nice. i'd love to see a continuation of the series, the cast feels like a full family by the end.

a really good legal drama
(my first drama)wyw is played VERY well, and the characters and interactions in general are written really well and are (usually) very likeable, the per-episode plots and the overall plot is very good, i loved their trip to jeju with the temples, etc. though i rewatched it again a year later and i realise the romance from wyw isn't that great.. maybe i shouldn't expect it to be.. but it's always a lower priority. the legal part of the drama is incredibly well written, and the episodes can be pretty heavy at times. if this was a slice of life it would probably be my #1 show. not my favourite but it's up there!

a slightly annoying but still great playful romance
(writing this a bit after i watched it)this is like the ORIGINAL 2521/weightlifting fairy/twinkling watermelon. its a fun watch, though annoying/repetitive at some times--they go back and forth constantly. however, the start is very funny and it ends very strongly. also episode 16 has my favourite sex scene ever. i am in love with their little crew at the coffee shop.

When the sun and moon shine together
I literally have no words to express how much I loved this C-drama. Ever since it was announced, I was dying to see it. The story totally grabbed me before it even aired, and once I started watching, there was no turning back. It easily became one of the best dramas I’ve seen all year. The plot just pulls you in, and honestly, every single element—the characters, the romance, the OST, the cinematography—was perfectly crafted. I’m just so happy I got to experience this story day by day. I usually never watch Cdramas while they’re airing, but I just couldn't wait, lol! No regrets, even though I’m a little sad to say goodbye now.I have to say, He Yu absolutely killed it in this drama. It’s my second time seeing him, the first was My Fated Boy, and even though he was super cute in that one, Jin Zhao is on a whole different level. And can we talk about how HOT he looks here?! I literally held my breath every time he was in his "bad boy racer" era. His soft era was nice, but the bad boy vibes? Simply superior. (//ω//) There’s so much depth to his characters. Even after everything he’s been through, he still kept his heart of gold. He’s so naturally kind and caring—honestly, the ultimate green flag. I just loved and will always love this man 4ever! ♥
As for Esther Yu, I’ve been a fan for a while. I know some people aren't into her style, but I really like her. Her character, Jiang Mu (Mu Mu), might seem a bit immature at first, but I loved her character development. We started off with a very innocent, unbothered, loving, and cute girlie, yet we ended with a mature, loving and subtle cute lady. Also, the outfits and styling deserve a full review of their own because they were beautiful! One thing I’ve always loved about this character is that she isn't your typical shy girl—she’s the complete opposite! I absolutely loved how she could keep up with Jin Zhao. I mean, from now on, whenever I hear the word 'Focus,' I’m always going to think of her, lol!
Which brings us to the chemistry... and wow, they really delivered. Their scenes left me speechless more than once. The amount of times I kicked my feet and giggled frantically because of these two is actually insane. AND THE KISSES?! I was obsessed with "hungry" Zhao Zhao. (〃ノωノ) The yearning and the way this man loves Mu Mu made me want to be loved like that, too (I mean, who wouldn't?). The way Jin Zhao’s intense, hot stares met Jiang Mu’s innocent gazes... honestly, I GASPED every single time.
I honestly have no complaints about the supporting cast! Even with their limited screen time, they delivered exactly what was needed to make this drama a total gem. I wasn't expecting to see Mike Angelo! It’s been a while since I’ve seen him, and I loved his character along with Sanlai Ge and the rest of the crew. The OST is beautiful, and the action scenes—the racing, the boxing—were incredible. This drama delivered exactly what it promised, and I’ll definitely be rewatching it. I’m also planning to read the novel because I heard it’s even better since the drama had to cut some things out.
Conclusion: I honestly wish I could erase my memory just to rewatch it all over again for the first time. I’d watch it forever if I could! This drama is 100% worth it, and I’d recommend it to anyone with my eyes closed. 10/10 ✧

an enjoyable journey from start to finish
honestly, this drama is insanely good n truly lives up to my expectations. from start to finish, the storyline flows smoothly with conflicts that are light, engaging, and very easy to follow, making it an excellent choice for anyone who’s new to chinese dramas. what i really love is how the plot never feels overwhelming. everything is well paced, so u can fully enjoy the story without feeling confused or tired. the teamwork between fu sheng, gu tian, and wenjue is especially impressive. their chemistry and cooperation feel natural and convincing, which plays a huge role in delivering such a satisfying and well earned ending. on top of that, the acting performances are absolutely solid. every actor truly embodies their role, delivering emotions with depth and sincerity. u can genuinely feel the characters, struggles, growth, and connections throughout the drama.overall, this drama is entertaining, heartwarming, and very easy to enjoy. it’s definitely a great watch. not only for beginners, but also for anyone looking for a well executed chinese drama with strong performances and a rewarding ending.

good if you like darker dramas
(mild spoiler)kind of cute and i was definitely hooked on the later episodes but. its not really my type of show. i like my shows lighthearted and funny and romantic and this was FAR too dark for me. the romance parts really annoyed me though... why does she like the guy thats constantly written as the most suspicious...
but if you like that sort then its good. i did want to see more cats though. AND the 2521 references are 10/10

Beautiful...
It’s been a while since I last watched a historical drama, but this one was absolutely worth the time. I’m a bit biased because I’m a sucker for the lost-memory trope, yet even beyond that, the story was genuinely engaging and beautifully told. The plot twists were thoughtfully written and kept the narrative compelling, and the ending it simply made sense. Overall, this was a thoroughly enjoyable watch and a reminder of why historical dramas can be so addicting. Also, I loved the chemistry between the two leads.

A love story held hostage by cultural side quests
This drama is undeniably entertaining, but it’s the kind of entertaining that constantly tests how much narrative chaos you’re willing to tolerate. At its best, the drama delivers a compelling portrait of two people shaped by trauma, ambition, and survival instincts. At its worst, it wanders into long cultural showcases — plant dyeing, Batik, fashion design — that, while beautiful, hijack entire episodes and dilute the emotional momentum. A sprinkle of cultural depth is enriching; half an episode of dye‑making demonstrations feels like the writers forgot what story they were telling. The emotional backbone of the drama lies in Xu Yan’s journey, and the show is at its strongest when it stops trying to soften the truth of her upbringing. Her decision to cut off her parents is not cruelty — it’s clarity. Poverty doesn’t justify neglect, and the drama’s attempt to later reframe it as “they just don’t get along” trivializes the very real abandonment she endured. Blood is not a moral shield. The people who raise you, protect you, and show up are the real family, and Xu Yan’s arc embodies that truth with quiet, unwavering dignity.
Xu Yan herself is a fascinating contradiction: outwardly gentle, inwardly strategic. She mirrors Hao Ming more than the drama initially admits — both are calculating; both are survivors, both understand leverage. The difference is framing. His control is labeled cold; her maneuvering is labeled resilience. And honestly, both labels fit. She’s not chasing wealth; she’s chasing stability after a childhood that offered none. Her willingness to walk away from immense privilege to reclaim her autonomy is the clearest proof of her integrity. Even her mother‑in‑law recognizes this, valuing sincerity over status in one of the show’s more grounded emotional beats.
Hao Ming, meanwhile, is not the toxic monster some viewers make him out to be. He’s emotionally illiterate, not violent; controlling, not cruel. His trauma explains him, but it doesn’t absolve him. He uses money as leverage, not violence as a weapon. This is not the kind of toxicity that relies on rape, threats, or explosive abuse. Their arguments are debates, not detonations. Xu Yan is given choices—even if those choices are unfairly weighted. Compared to genuinely toxic archetypes, this is restrained, transactional, and oddly honest. If anything, Fang Lei radiates far more toxicity.
Where the drama falters is in its intention versus payoff. Hao Ming’s emotional detachment—likely shaped by the death of his first love—explains him, but it doesn’t excuse him. And his pursuit of Xu Yan often feels less like love and more like an aversion to loss, especially when business incentives are involved. I’ll believe his sincerity only if he loses everything and still chooses her. Secondary characters vanish and reappear for convenience, business crises resolve too quickly, and the late‑game twist about Hao Chen’s parentage feels like emotional clickbait. The message — that family is chosen, not blood — is solid, but the execution is unnecessarily chaotic. Still, despite its uneven focus, Love’s Ambition delivers enough heart, chemistry, and character depth to make the journey worthwhile.

Heavy topics were addressed tactfully and compassionately. Heartfelt and moving. I really enjoyed it. The slow pace felt therapeutic. The love triangle wasn't needed, but the friendships and struggles shown were great.

Did not like the plot.
Honestly the plot was just bad. I really didn’t like how the main character was useless and in every decision. He just let everyone just walk all over him and control his life. and also, it was also so stupid of how he couldn’t tell him the truth and the other character Nawa’s childhood friend was you so weird, controlling his life all the time and Nawa just let him and then he tried to kill Nawa’s lover, but they still forgave him just because he sacrificed himself that’s just so stupid. Overall I did not enjoy watching this especially at the last 4 episodes and there’s literally 8 episodes. Was this review helpful to you?
Good story spoiled by lazy writing
This drama is clearly designed for young or inexperienced audience, leaning heavily on exaggerated cuteness, predictable plot turns, and surface-level emotions instead of actual character development. Despite being marketed as a hot series, conflicts are dumbed down, logic is routinely sacrificed for “cute” moments, and the overly idealized relationships often cross into cringe territory. Per-episode viewership reportedly staying under 10 million only highlights the gap between hype and real engagement. Some viewers enjoy it for the flirtation and sexual tension, but anyone looking for depth, realism, or subtlety will likely find it shallow, repetitive, and unintentionally embarrassing. On kisskh, this kind of show predictably scores higher than it probably deserves, largely because MDL users tend to reward anything with “spice,” skinship, or suggestive moments over solid writing. Chemistry and sexual tension often get treated as substitutes for storytelling, so even shallow, cringe heavy dramas benefit from that bias. As a result, hype, edits, and thirst driven enthusiasm end up outweighing plot coherence, acting consistency, or character depth. It makes the ratings feel more reflective of appetite than quality.
I was looking forward to this drama for story line but was disappointing. The writing could have been much more solid, and there was really no need to make the characters so extremely cutesy. It ends up undermining what could have been a more grounded story. I also wish the “fake sibling” angle had been handled better. If both characters had always known there were no blood ties, the dynamic would have felt far less uncomfortable and more believable.

Worth watching
This series has both good and less good parts but still worth to watchI'll start with good:
–Good story about family, love and finding truth with some action too
–little twist but the gave to much hints before revealing
–Except for evil family members start, later they show people caring for each other
–Likeable main characters. Female lead is emotionaly strong and inteligent while male lead is physically strong and inteligent. They help each other and are good duo.
–happy ending
Less good:
– slow, some scenes i skiped but not much
–if you expect romance you will get it but you will have to wait some longer time
–annoying evil concubines from her father and annoying 3rd wheel obsessed with fl, luckily one sided. (Usuall start xD)
–there is a second couple which i usually like but these were not so interesting.
Overall worth watching but with few episodes less it would be better and a bit sooner with romance part

Sheer Perfection
Oh man, did THIS series have me in its grip. From episode 1, it grabbed me by the neck, slammed me against the wall and kissed me like a lover after a fight. It's making me pay for ignoring it for over 2 years. The convo went like this.
TV Series: "You thought you didn't need me in your life, didn't you?"
Me: "I...I thought you would be too big. I mean, my God, you're 70 episodes long! I was scared you'd under perform. I... " Lowered head. "I didn't want to be disappointed."
TV Series grabbed my chin and raised my head so that our eyes could meet. "And now, you know just how wrong you were. Every episode has filled you to the brim with everything you wanted and things you didn't even know you wanted. You're mine now. You're going to take every bit of me. Every fucking second, do you hear me? I own you now!"
Me: *trembling* "yes... I'm yours."
That's what happened and I've been going to bed at 5am three nights in a row since I started. 😂 I've finished it now and I'm so happy I've only gotten about 5 hours of sleep for five days. Well worth it.
What I've loved about "The Story of Yanxi Palace" The smart as hell FL, the scheming. The way the emperor talks such a deep sexy voice, the murderous plots. The revenge. The arranged marriages. The bonding and outsmarting.. I love the relationships and how the emperor learned to accept her for who she was. I loved her loyalty and love for her chosen ppl. I enjoyed seeing the growth of the characters.

The only small exception I’ll make is for the actors Kim Hyeon Seo and Jung Myeong Cheol. They literally had nothing to work with. I really hope they’re able to pick better projects in the future and get the opportunities they deserve.
