Midnight Tea, Mild Drama, Maximum Cute...

This drama looks cute on the surface, and to be fair, the production team didn’t cheap out. The sets are warm, the lighting is soft, and the whole thing feels like someone sprinkled a light romance filter over life. The story starts strong too… until the plot decides to wander off like it forgot where it was going. That breakup scene especially felt like the writers pulled it out of a hat. I kept thinking did I miss an episode or did they just decide to stir drama for sport.

The cast carries most of the weight. The FL is sharp, steady, and actually behaves like a grown woman, which is refreshing. The ML has charm but occasionally acts like he’s reading the script for the first time. Their chemistry is there, but not blazing. More like comfortable warm tea instead of fire. The supporting characters do their job but no one steals the spotlight. They’re more like background seasoning, not the main flavour.

As for pacing, some parts fly, some drag, and a few episodes feel like extended fillers. The drama could’ve wrapped itself sooner instead of looping around the same emotional roundabout. Thankfully, the ending doesn’t crash the plane. It lands nicely, ties things up, and leaves you in a decent mood.

Overall, it’s a light, pleasant watch. Not groundbreaking, not rage-inducing, just one of those dramas you watch after a long day when you want something sweet but not too complicated. Fun in parts, frustrating in a few places, but still good enough to finish with a smile and maybe a shrug. 😊

It was a pleasant surprise.

It's the kind of drama that captivates you with its aesthetic beauty and keeps you engaged with a plot that, without being overly complex, manages to connect. The effects are very well done, believable, and integrate perfectly with the narrative. But where the drama truly shines is in its art direction. The costumes are absolutely marvelous; every detail of the clothing reflects the personalities of the characters, demons, and the era. The acting is quite passable. The cast performs well, conveying the emotions needed to make the story believable and enjoyable to follow. This is one of its greatest strengths. It's a story that flows without falling into unnecessary drama, exaggerated sadness, or frustrating complications.

My only "but," and it's more of a personal wish, is that I would have loved to see more of the Snake Lady's partner.

LOVED IT! at first...

I actually really loved the story line and how the drama was going at first. It was exciting and not a very common plot so I was actually really attracted and interested in this drama. This show definitely catches your attention for the first part. But...after that the drama just starts to go downhill. The episodes just start feeling random and very rushed. So many things happened yet they aren't explained to the viewers at all. I really wanted to continue and finish the drama but for the last few episodes I began to feel bored and uninterested. I basically didn't even watch the last few episodes because I was so bored that I would do other things while it was on. This was a drama I went into watching with not so high expectations, so watching the beginning half I was actually surprised and very intrigued. But I would just say, don't get your hopes because the ending will bring boredom to you in a second.

Fell flat at the end, but overall chemistry is on fire ❤️‍?

1. I really love xu kai’s character here, definitely my favorite character of his. Prefer him to be in this kinda cute and calm but strong character rather than his usual tsundere or playful style.
2. Txw is so beautiful to the point it’s unreal. I feel like her eyes do have a fan on their own. So pretty!!!!!
3. The cinematography, the aesthetics, the color grading of this drama are my cup of tea. I feel like I indeed am a fan of Lu Hao Ji Ji’s works. His works never failed my eyes.
4. Story, chemistry, OSTs, all are AMAZING, until i got into like episode 30 ish. I just want the fluffs. Usually angst isn’t something that annoyed me and sometimes it even helps to engage me more into the story. But the angst here is just, well, felt plain. I love xukai’s calm and cheerful and in-love kind of acting expressions, but definitely not a fan of his angst and sad actings. On the other side, i think txw did pretty well with her acting especially her seductive, bad ass, and cute actings. But just like xk, txw’s angst is not her strongest point. But a bit better than xk.
5. I’m not rlly sure about txw’s character here???? at first she’s cool but sometimes she can be annoying like hey that guy is your husband girl….. Maybe I’m missing something along the watch but this is just my thought.
6. Ending is gantung idk.

Episode 1-29 is ⭐️9/10
Episode 30-38 is ⭐️7/10

Overall rating
⭐️8/10

Great Premise + Great Acting - Poor Writing = Above Average drama

I finished the drama, which is good.
I put all Wu Zishu scenes on 2x which was a lot of work and very annoying.

I enjoyed all Mei Si scenes, which is good.
I think the writers fumbled a great script/premise, which is irritating.

Kai and Xiwei had great chemistry, their acting was top notch. In fact, everybody acted very well, which is good.
Somehow, even with 38 episodes, the story was rushed which makes very little sense.

The ending was ??? It wasn't bad but it wasn't good, it was incomplete... unfinished, like a special episode to be released alter. I get it, human x demon couples won't survive long etc etc but this weird limbo that Liu Taizhen, Mei Si, Huzhu and Shunagjiang are in is unsavoury. Even our lead couple has no closure, he wakes up with demon eyes but what does that mean? What is the long term scenario?

Lord Phantom was supposedly unkillable so what's with him? Did she somehow kill him? Is his essence imprisoned again?
I have many more such questions that I will probably ask in the comment section

Visually Stunning with a weird end that left me hanging for closure.

I'm telling yall I picked this up because of Tian Xiwei and also she kicked her suitor off the window in ep 1 and I was all in for this gorgeous woman.

FL is the empress's sister, a county princess who is an old maid, unruly & frivolous and our ML is calm and composed celestial master trying to find the truth about his parents death...it was all really fun but i lost interest very quickly maybe because i felt the stakes were not high enough..?The stakes were high- but the lighthearted tone somehow contradicted it I guess.

My inexplicable dislike might be due to the fact that i'm really done with nonchalant, emotionally inexpressive men and ML's emotions were shown quite subtle ofc due to his character, his feelings were like slowly simmering beneath still water.

I also genuinely dislike when antagonists do the bad deed due to their obsession with the main character and it's really hard to achieve nicely.
Minor villain (Mr. Changming's motivations weren't clear enough).

But I absolutely loved Snake Lord & Mei Si together (A very CHALANT MAN HERE!!) and Xuan Hui- oh boy they were soo cute together. I love love Snake Lord sm, like My lady's calm, composed, intelligent and just totally amazing ofc im gonna love her.
The ending was cute (the last 10 mins only!!- the body exchange part, the rest was atrociously unlikable)

Overall, a fun show with amazing special effects that fit in seamlessly, really nice editing and cinematography really suited the tone of the show. I liked it, it was visually appealing but there was something about the story and plot that just wasn't for me.

Cool!

This would be my second review of any C-Drama. I won't say more and go straight into the point this may look pretty simple please bear with me.

Storyline: Great
Genre: Action, Fantasy, Historical, Romance, Supernatural
Relevance: Connection with relevance with the story and all unanswered questions have been answered
Pace: Medium
Music: Ok
Song/Music Quality: Motivation??
:Progression:
Action Progression: Great
Romance Progression: Love at first sight type thing but the feelings/attachment actually increases over time, NOT BAD
Story Progression: relaxed
::
Ending: Find out yourself (Hint: It's Great but not Grand)

Suggestion: make some time to watch this, it's a long one but re-watch worthy material.

P.S. ML character is actually following through the story and FL character contribution is giving a harmonious story. try to absorb the story and character progression don't just like a drama just because it has your favorite actors/actresses. feel the character.

P.S.2 I'm tired and sleepy it's late and I just finished the story and going to sleep, cya

He Knows Her ?

From the early episode he tolerated her. He never questioned her identity. He never asked if she had other relations (esp. With book demon). He never suspected her.
She never betrayed him nor did she ever complain about him being celesial master. Yes she act like she felt betrayed but actually she did cuase yeah she have to leave him.

I love that they never doubt each other. And the plot is always twisting over again and again.

Ep 6, Mei Zhu Yu's words, "If she wants flower she will pluck it herself . If she is in danger, she will not rely on others let alone hide behind someone's back. "
It shows how much he understands her. This was really well developed drama, which filled all plot holes. And I appreciate that.

Wonderful, well done fairytale.

1st thing i would like to mark is scenario.

I haven't seen a single scene with stupid lines. No cliche phrases just to fill an empty space.

I really liked how feelings between characters evolved. Gradually, naturally. Not like out of a sudden. That part was written quite smart with care to the story.
I personally hate many of Chinese dramas for blind "emotional exploitation" with bunch of stupid irrational shit happening on screen. Happy that this is not a case- such a joy really)))

Characters detailed, really well thought- out.

Dialogues - smart.

Love attention to details, love that it's written right, whole the composition of the story is good, love that the weapon is the last arguement. Love that scenes of violance occure rarely in natural flow of the story, not just for emotional rape of viewers.

Love heroine- collected but not prim. Fun but nor ridiculous, straightforward but not an upstart. It shows that screenwriters did a really good job.

Direction, production. Story, acting really well assembled. THANK Lu Hao JiJi for this beautiful story and great work. Hope you gonna get best screenwriters, best cameramen and best actors to create more magic.

Costumes for the drama ARE AMAZING!

Tian Xi Wei just took my heart. It might seem easy to portrail and play cat,but infact hard. Many actresses of a global scale hopelessly failed. But Tian Xi Wei did it her own playful but yet elegant way with extreme attention to details of cats behaviour. I was cat breeder for 8 years, and i know almost everything about cats. Tian Xi Wei played a wonderful, smart Cat Mistress.

Wu Jun Ting has shown wonderful mature spectrum of feelings. Deep love and deep despair without being caricature, compulsive or naive. Antihero you can really feel for.

Xu Hai Qiao FREAKING HOT. Former cat master appears for a while in the end and just breaks your heart 💔 💔 💔

Highly recommend to watch this beautiful, high quality fairytale.

what happen to male char

The beginning of the drama was really interesting — the male lead was shy and the female lead was free-spirited and bold. But ever since they got married, the male character changed drastically, becoming overly lustful and always showing an angry or arrogant face.. Honestly, I prefer the male character and love story of Mei Si and Shuang Jiang. I’m only at episode 30, but honestly, I’ve lost the motivation to keep watching until the end.

Moonlit reunion that dimmed halfway

I don’t have much expectations coming into this show. But it was engaging enough for me to keep watching.

My mistake, however, was starting the show way too early. When I had caught up with the latest episodes that was aired, I had to pause midway and somehow lost my desire to continue the show. I think if I watched the show when all episodes were released, I could power through all (by skipping a majority of it).

Let’s focus on the positives and perhaps I will come back to this someday.

1) Tian Si Wei is well casted as lord demon cat, Wu Zhen. There’s something magnetic and cat-like about her that makes this role a natural fit for her.

2) Wu Zhen’s character where she’s strong and heck care about others’ impression of her is admirable

3) The story of second male and female leads. The second male lead might be naive, but he is sincere, open minded and warm. His dynamic with the black snake is also adorable to watch
