Let the kittens follow
Of course I'm biased. I only watch Xu Kai dramas. But I quite enjoy each of them. This one is no exception. I do like the strong woman leader he has to play along with. In this case, cat lord is a very noisy, spoiled, funny and witty lady that catches the serious and very introverted celestial master's eye. The whole story was well developed until episode 34. It may have been useful to have 40 in total, so that the ending could be displayed less rushed. One could cherish a 2nd season, but it took so long to get the permits for this one alone that we might have to be just happy with what we got.All suportive characters were right on point, you end up hating the bad guys and cherishing the goofy ones. The soundtrack! these dramas have at least 2 or 4 songs that are mesmerizing and match the story so well. I will keep them in my play list.

My main issue is with the storyline
I think the overall plot was not entirely satisfying. It felt like the writers introduced several complex plot twists, especially in the final few episodes, without giving them the proper resolution they deserved. It didn't feel like a conclusion it felt like the setup for a second season that we might never get. The actors did a wonderful job bringing their characters to life. But a great beginning and a strong middle can't fully compensate for an ending that feels incomplete and hastily assembled. Was this review helpful to you?

A Beautifully Crafted Story
One of my favourite Dramas of 2025. While not perfect, it has everything you would want in a Romance/Fantasy/Wuxia drama. Was putting it off, but once i got started, couldn't stop watching. haha.An Colourful Story of 2 world's co-existing, exciting action scenes, a banger OST, a band of interesting support characters and 2 leads that absolutely steal the show with their precence, chemistry, romance and action scenes.
Mei Zhu Yu & Wu Zhen - Characters that compliment each other so much, and the actors that brought them to life so well.
Xu Kai & Tian Xi Wei, when they smiled, i smiled, when they cried, i cried. Especially Tina Xi Wei her screen precence, her charm is so endearing, her smile so infectious. :D
This is one of the dramas i felt could of used more episodes. It seemed a little rushed toward the end, when they were wrapping up each antagonists arc. At times it seemed like they ran out of budget. Can't be sure.
Aside from that, this was an entertaining and charming drama.
Make sure to watch till the end, pass the credits!

A visual storytelling balanced so well with well developed character arcs.
MUST WATCH DRAMA IF YOU ALSO ENJOY WATCHING A DRAMA FOR THE STORY, PERFORMANCES & A MEANINGFUL IMPACTThis is my first time writing a review for a drama here because it is one of those beautiful dramas i would keep going for again and again but seeing it being so underrated (or maybe it is just me who feel so because my social media algorithms dont see it being promoted enough or influencers talking about it) makes me feel sad about the efforts the makers and performers here put in. let me do it point wise.
STORY
A 9.5 for me not because it lacked but because sometimes the editing felt choppy and after watching a couple of C DRAMAS i know how its a rushed finale due to episode restrictions and same happened here as well. But rest assured it still is a beautiful watch.
PERFORMANCES
1. General - the one thing i love about C dramas is they have such fine artists - not only the leads even the suppprt cast and the guests have performed so well.
2. Main leads
XK - i have already watched so many of his dramas and i have loved him in almost every of them because there is something genuine in his eyes when he performs and i dont find that sincerity in so many popular actors, so however long his role is, whatever kind of role it is i always love watching him onscreen. Also a heads up - An emotionally wrecked XK onscreen could be harmful for your eyes, cried so much here. (be it AMA, WONDERLAND OF LOVE, SAHPH, ABAY , my favs of his among all of his works i have watched so far).
TXW - it was for my 1st time watching TXW and she already made me her fan, waiting for Chasing jade feels terrible now :-)
CHEMISTRY - i am already waiting for their next collaboration and that explains the wonderful chemistry they have created for us viewers(hopefully drama makers in china have witnessed the potential here). XU KAI AND TIAN XI WEI made us believe in the story of Mei Zhu yu and Wu zhen, not to talk about the amount of tears i kept shedding for them because even seeing them happy felt so personal.
3. Second Pair
Snake lord and Mei Si, this should be one of those few times i enjoyed watching second couple without feeling the absence of scenes of main leads. Their story was good, at times i waited for them for the fun, banter or even the intrigue of how -they -were- going- to- interact- this-time. Loved their performances.
4. Supporting cast -
Shu -lets just forget the death of SHU , because i loved his performance, the guy was in love with a girl and he just wanted the best for her and the actor performed the softness when he is with Wu zhen and the cruelty when he has to be the bad guy for the world so well... actor is charishmatic and i would sure wait for his next dramas.
Xi huan - The loach snake was such a lovely irony to Mei Si's usually dull life, the guy started off bickering but at the end he just made us love him more and feel for his journey.
Duke Wu, Shuang , Fox lord, Rat Demon, The Changxi palace masters, Mother of MZY, and every other regular or guest character were all so good in their performances.
OST AND BACKGROUND MUSIC
just like so many of fans, i also start noticing the BG & OST as soon as i start a drama because for stories it is one of the most imprtant keys to translate the emotions of the characters to us viewers better and MR didnt lack here, all OSTs are so beautiful and meaningful and they grow on you with time.
CINEMATOGRAPHY, FIGHT SEQUENCES AND VFX
I dont know a lot about these technical things but the colorful decor of Chang'an s night clubs, the subtle dark yet playful aura of demon land and then the secluded Changxi palace together gave off a mysterious vibe, perfect for this genre, the cinamatogrpahy and areal shots made the experience so rich it would take some time to not compare any new fantasy drama to compare with MR.
The fight sequences and the efforts the C dramas put in it , i have always appreciated that.
VFX - they made us believe in every supernatural thing that was happening onscreen and that credit goes to the VFX and the coordination of human and digital craftsmen.
ENDING
i found it a perfect one, the explanations were done right. i am happy there are still some stories where a viewer has to use his imagination and thoughts to conclude the story. (unconvenient but believe me it has a lovely ending).
WHY TO WATCH
-if you love to experience a story through the perspectives of all the characters involved.
-if you love to see the journey of a character and the developement it goes through as episodes roll.
-and if you love to watch a meaningful romance (the romance here was so beautiful and because it left us craving for more is the sign it was developed and performed so well.

Novel Reader Alert! Worth Watching!!
The first few episodes might feel a little slow, but once it picks up, it’s worth it! I like how the drama takes a different direction from the novel while still keeping some of the original lines and moments. The cast is really well chosen too— everyone fits their roles perfectly. And honestly, the empress is my absolute favorite character… she totally cracks me up, LOL.

synopsis is misleading | there are good moments but a lot of meandering
synopsis is misleading, there's no relevance to unique "seeing spirits" for either character, nor do they regularly work together to solve cases. Cases are short, but they're just a backdrop for the characters to interact. They each work separately without knowing the other's identity or capabilities. Was entertaining up to ep 15, but then you start having other male love interests introduced and the story meanders. The main male lead Mei Zhu Yu gets very few scenes actually doing any Daoism, and any scenes last a couple seconds. It's overall moreso Wu Zhen's story.
The casting for Wu Zhen is perfect, her face looks exactly like a cat, though she has very prominent laugh lines that make her look significantly older. The child actress for Wu Zhen as a child is totally miscast, she looks like she's Indian or something. Would be a much better match for Princess Yuan Zhen.
There's a B-plot romances for Mei Si x Liu Tai Zhen, and Shuang Jiang x Hu Zhu. Mei Si x Liu Tai Zhen does seem to be resolving, but the Shuang Jiang x Hu Zhu doesn't seem to be going anywhere as of ep 19
edit 1: the scheming by many characters sucks, there's rat elder, Wu Zhen's childhood friend, ah Shu, Changxi sect leader, etc. Everybody's scheming, it's so annoying.

You will love the FL
The FL is very good. She plays so well that it's captivating and engaging. Xu Kai is very invested in his role. The drama deserves so much and I hope there will be a lot to explore in the remaining episodes.Plus the visuals are beautiful. I don't know about you, but this drama has become one of my best that I've seen this year because of the FL. It's on my list. It has her own unique universe.
But to tell the truth also at some point the story is very slow and it's deserves better than that.

Charming leads and stunning fantasy visuals.
I started watching Moonlit Reunion mainly because of the leads, Xu Kai and Tian Xi Wei. It’s one of Tencent’s most anticipated dramas and with such a handsome actor and a beautiful actress, I was really excited to watch. The drama didn’t disappoint at first. The drama-setting , costume are great, the leads have good chemistry and their scenes together are a joy to watch.
However, I was a bit disappointed with the storyline and the ending, Some parts felt slow, while others felt rushed which made the ending feel unsatisfying.
Despite this, the visuals are beautiful, the fantasy world is engaging and the leads did a great job bringing their characters to life and definitely worth watching.

I had so much fun watching this one!
For me personally, beautiful visuals, cinematography, color grading, styling, CGI, makeup, and decorations, are really important in a drama, and this one completely delivered. Everything in that regard was on point, making it such a pleasure to watch. The overall atmosphere was amazing; you could sense the supernatural elements just from the way colors were used. I especially loved the contrast between Demon City and Chang’an. The costume styling was also fantastic, particularly for the demons, where you could almost guess what kind of demon they were just by their look. The set decorations paired so well with the clothing, and the camera angles added a lot to the experience.Even if the story hadn’t been good, I would have given this an average rating just for the visuals alone, but luckily, the story was pretty solid too! I actually started this drama for the “demon female lead” tag, and it delivered exactly what I wanted. Tian Xi Wei was amazing, her cat mannerisms were so well done, and her role as Wuzhen, the Cat Lord, is probably my favorite from her now. The cat itself was adorable, and the CGI for the animals overall was impressive.
This was my first time seeing Wang Jia Yi, and she was fantastic. She really captured the on-screen charisma a Snake Lord should have, balancing strength and emotion perfectly. Her sharp, striking eyes made her performance even more memorable. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for her upcoming projects.
The male lead, Mei Zhu, was also good, but I honestly felt the female characters were the true stars of the show. Mei Si was unexpectedly one of my favorites, his goofy character was so much fun. I also liked the other side characters, and each demon’s story was interesting. My personal favorite was the Camellia Tree Demon and the Princess story, it was so beautiful and touching.
The romance is definitely not the strongest aspect of this show, could've been better, but I wouldn't call it bad. Both couples still had adorable and hot scenes together.
Overall, despite the rushed ending, this was absolutely a worthy watch.

Stunning visuals in the demon world
What I liked about Moonlit Reunion at first was the world and the setting.Demon City felt unique and the opening episodes had a nice balance of mystery and fantasy.
I especially enjoyed the demon market scene, it looked magical and full of life almost like stepping into a fairytale.
Those moments made me excited to see where the story would go.
Xu Kai and Tian Xi Wei also did a good job portraying their characters and visually they are very charming on screen which made it even more enjoyable to watch.
As the drama went on, though, I felt the main plot started to lose focus. Wu Zhen’s journey and her relationship with Zhu Yu were supposed to be at the heart of the story but instead too much time was spent on side plots about supporting characters that didn’t add much.
Some of these side stories were quirky and fun at first but they dragged on and ended up taking the spotlight away from the leads.
Rather than deepening the mystery of Demon City or giving more depth to Wu Zhen and Zhu Yu’s bond, a lot of screen time went into side relationships and conflicts that felt unimportant.
This made the pacing uneven with too much filler in between.
I really wanted to see Wu Zhen and Zhu Yu’s romance develop naturally but because the drama spent so much time on the extra characters, their connection felt weak and underdeveloped.
The mystery of Demon City also had great potential but it often got pushed aside instead of being explored further.
Still, I can’t deny that the atmosphere, creative sets and lighter tone made the show easy and pleasant to watch.
For me, Moonlit Reunion is beautiful to look at and fun in parts, but the main story gets buried under too many unnecessary side plots.

A good comfort drama from start to finish ...although a little rushed hehe
If you're looking for a drama with little to no misunderstandings, good plot , great visuals and a slightly rushed ending that you won't be too mad at? Moonlit reunion is for you.It started out as quite a slow paced drama which didn't really make sense but didn't really affect the viewing and then slowly it became intense and well acted out. The relationships in the dramas were fleshed out and although it may not be what we expect all in all it was a good drama that you can watch to pass time or if you're not in the mood to handle and usual cdrama misunderstandings nonsense.
Mei zhu Yu and Wu Zhen are really a beautiful couple hehehe
