Demon buffet

I started this drama just for the lead ~~ Xu Kai and Tian Xiwei ...and my god !! What a duo .... ❤️🫶
Two years ago, I even commented on Xu Kai’s Instagram wishing he’d work with Tian Xiwei and Zhou Ye. I never thought it’d actually happen, but here we are... and frankly speaking it passed all my expectations .

Other aspects :

Plot : in the beginning it felt like 'warm on the cold night' plot detective-y and suspenseful (with gender roles reversed) but soon diverged into demon catching ..further good vs evil ~ save the world plot. Though overall pace was consistent but somewhere around ep 20-26 the unveiling of events slowed I was literally thinking of dropping it here but I didn't ... Anyway after crossing an entire 5-7 episode long valley of boredom .. plot moved ...felt a little rushed at last but at least every important issue was addressed.
Loopholes : black snake demon was in prison for 100 years yet he had hatred against FL cat lord who became a demon 18 years ago ( i can't understand why ?? If you know please feel free to explain in the comments)

Cast :

Tian xi wei : girl is being criticised for her acting in GOTD (though I liked her a lot) but with this performance she must have silenced her haters. She added a good pinch of mature seduction to her original playful and sweet aura this time and delivered a good chemistry with Xu kai.

As far as the character of Wu Zhen is concerned, I loved this female protagonist, but I’m sorry — she wasn’t my favorite. Her never-ending forgive-all streak irritated me a lot. People were conspiring right under her nose, and she was ignoring them like

Xu Kai: brilliant!!! Outstanding!!! Mesmerizing!!! But honestly, this is like his fourth or fifth drama with the same aura, just in a different shade. Every single time it’s the same loop: he meets the FL, falls fast, messes up because of some compulsive obsessive/ revenge vendetta, she leaves, he becomes brutal to mend things , and then happy ending. Wonderland of Love, Ancient Love Poetry, Dance of the Sky Empire, and now this one. My boy’s officially typecast! I’m just relieved he’s doing a crime thriller next ... finally, some fresh air for him and us.

Rest cast and guest appearances were good as well.

Music: Ringtone-worthy OST totally ticks the vibe check with this thrilling plot.

Set design: exquisite and very detailed along with realistic green screen scenes takes the watching experience to a whole different level.
CGi special effects were great

Styling is a fusion of wuxia ( lords and dukes and xianxia ( demon and immortal) which is rarely seen.

In a nutshell, this drama was pure entertainment ... full of fun, drama, and charm. Sure, the middle episodes dragged a bit, but overall? Totally worth the watch. It keeps you hooked enough to forgive those slow moments.

Recommended ❤️

Mystical love

Moonlit Reunion is the kind of C-drama that reminds you why you fell in love with historical romances in the first place. From the very first episode, it sweeps you into the bustling charm of Tang dynasty Chang’an and never lets go.

The story strikes a perfect balance between romance, fantasy, and adventure. Wu Zhen, played by the radiant Tian Xiwei, is not your typical female lead—she’s bold, witty, and secretly carries the weight of the Demon City on her shoulders. Xu Kai’s Mei Zhuyu, calm and principled, is the ideal counterbalance. Together, their chemistry is absolutely electric. Whether they are bickering in disguise, protecting each other in danger, or quietly sharing a glance under the moonlight, you can feel the unspoken bond between them.

Visually, this drama is breathtaking. Every costume, set piece, and scene is dripping with detail. The Demon Market sequences glow with magical energy, while the serene palace gardens and moonlit streets offer a backdrop for some of the most heart-fluttering romantic moments. The cinematography makes each frame look like a painting, and the OST beautifully complements the emotional highs and lows.

What sets Moonlit Reunion apart is how it avoids clichés. Instead of dragging out misunderstandings, it gives us a couple who fight side by side as equals. Their relationship feels mature, refreshing, and deeply moving. Secondary characters, like the cunning Snake Lord, also shine and add richness to the world.

Yes, it’s 38 episodes—but not once does it feel bloated. Each arc builds meaningfully, weaving action, supernatural mystery, and heartfelt romance into a story that keeps you invested until the very end.

Verdict: A rare gem. Moonlit Reunion is more than a romance; it’s a love letter to destiny, loyalty, and courage. With stunning visuals, stellar acting, and a romance that makes your heart race, it earns a well-deserved 10/10. If you only watch one historical fantasy romance this year, let it be this one .

No headline

At first, I watched this drama because of Xu Kai, and it introduced me to Tian Xi Wei, which made me like her acting. This has kind of let me enjoy the chemistry between the two main characters in this drama. Although I got bored in between the episodes, generally, it is a really well-made drama, and if you like the fantasy genre mixed with Romance, I recommend this series.

Purr-fect Vibes, Not-So-Purr-fect Pacing

Wu Zhen is a notorious playgirl in Chang’an, born into power as the Duke of Henan’s daughter and the Empress’s sister. Known for wearing men’s clothes and causing trouble with other nobles, she hides a secret: she can see spirits. After surviving a near-death accident, she inherits demonic powers and becomes the new Cat Master, secretly ruling Chang’an’s hidden Demon City and keeping supernatural beings in check. Mei Zhu Yu is a Taoist prodigy who also sees spirits. Raised in a Taoist temple, he quietly becomes one of the most powerful Daoists of his time. Though he keeps a low profile, he serves as Wu Zhen’s most reliable ally. Together, they form an unexpected but balanced pair, navigating a world where humans and spirits coexist, blending mystery, romance, and lighthearted moments as they protect the unseen realm.

I was a bit overwhelmed when I first read the plot, but I decided to give it a try anyway because of Tian Xi Wei and Xu Kai (and also because I was bored and didn’t know what to watch). The story was confusing at first, especially with Wu Zhen’s double life and the whole demon–human world setting. However, as I continued watching, I found myself enjoying it. Since the story felt unfamiliar to me, I was curious and kept anticipating how everything would unfold.

Overall, I think the script was decent, but the pacing was uneven. Just when things started to pick up, the story would suddenly slow down. Some moments felt like they were building toward big revelations, only for them to fall a bit flat. It didn’t completely ruin my viewing experience, but better pacing would have made the drama stronger. The ending also felt a bit rushed for my taste, and it wasn’t as climactic as I expected.

One thing I really liked about this drama was the set design. It gives off strong Halloween vibes, especially in the demon world. Unlike the usual dark and ominous demon realms in Chinese dramas, this one feels quirky, peculiar, and even cute, with a comedic touch. It reminded me of an old-school Disney Halloween set—slightly theatrical and very nostalgic. The costumes and makeup in the demon world also fit the overall vibe perfectly. The human world sets were beautifully done as well. Wu Zhen’s house was especially memorable, and the palace set with the tree surrounded by shallow water was visually striking.

Tian Xi Wei and Xu Kai were purr-fect for the kitty vibe of this drama! One of the main reasons I was drawn to it was their striking visuals, especially how cat-like they appeared. I truly can’t imagine a better actress to play Wu Zhen than Tian Xi Wei. She was a total femme fatale in this role. She perfectly captured Wu Zhen’s cat-like beauty, charisma, femininity, allure, playfulness, and flirtatiousness. Through this drama, Tian Xi Wei became Wu Zhen. On top of that, Wu Zhen was a well-written character, and Tian Xi Wei added even more depth through her expressive acting. She really left a lasting impression on me.

Unlike Wu Zhen, Mei Zhu Yu’s character felt underwritten. He came across as bland and didn’t leave much of an impact—if not for Xu Kai’s visuals, he might have been forgettable. I’m not sure whether this was due to weak writing or Xu Kai’s limited expressions, but the character just didn’t stand out. Mei Zhu Yu was simply… there. Without Wu Zhen steering the story, I might even forget he existed. The chemistry also felt off. At times, I could see it, but other times it felt like Wu Zhen was in love with a statue. I also didn’t understand why there were so many secrets between them, especially when they were about to get married. I understand Wu Zhen hiding her identity because of her responsibilities, but Mei Zhu Yu’s secrecy made little sense to me.

I actually found the ensemble cast and their dynamics more entertaining. Their relationships with one another—and with the main characters—were fun to watch, whether it was love-hate, rivalry, or loyalty. While the drama didn’t have many fight scenes, the ones it did have felt grand. Combined with the music, they really elevated the excitement.

All in all, despite its flaws, the drama was entertaining enough for me to give it a 7/10. Tian Xi Wei truly stood out as Wu Zhen, and the drama’s Halloween-like vibe is definitely something to look forward to.

A fantasy that looks stunning and feels real.

Amazing visuals, costumes, colors, and CGI create an atmosphere that feels alive, while the soundtrack deepens every scene. It’s a drama that’s as much a feast for the eyes as it is a story.

The characters give the show its real strength. Tian Xiwei is magnetic as Wu Zhen, fierce yet tender, while Wang Jiayi impresses with her striking presence as the Snake Lord. The side characters are equally charming, from the goofy fun of Mei Si to touching demon tales like the Camellia Tree Spirit. Together, they make the world feel complete and rich.

The romance is subtle, warm and believable without being the main focus. But it’s clear that the women carry much of the heart of the story, often outshining their male counterparts.

The main flaw lies in the ending. After a steady build-up, the final episodes feel rushed, and some arcs lose their impact. The resolution doesn’t fully match the promise of the beginning.

Still, even with a weaker finish, Moonlit Reunion leaves strong impressions. It’s a drama of gorgeous sights, memorable characters, and quiet emotional power- not perfect, but worth the journey.

So I just finished watching Moonlit Reunion and wow… this drama was such a fun mix of romance, fantasy, and mystery. If you’re into stories that balance sweet romance with a bit of supernatural world-building, this one’s definitely worth checking out.

The story follows Mei Zhuyu (Xu Kai), who’s a serious celestial master by day, and Wu Zhen (Tian Xi Wei), a witty princess who also secretly runs the Demon Market at night. Basically, they both live double lives, and that’s where all the tension and charm come from—sometimes lovers, sometimes opponents. Their chemistry is honestly the highlight of the show for me. The banter, the subtle romance, the “partners-in-crime” vibe… it felt very natural and refreshing.

Visually, it’s gorgeous—the costumes, the sets, the way the drama shows Chang’an by day and the demon market by night—it really pulls you into the world. I also loved all the supernatural touches (talking objects, quirky spirits, demon politics)—it gave the show a unique flavor beyond just being another historical romance.

That said, it’s not perfect. A few episodes dragged a little with side plots that didn’t feel super necessary, and I did wish Xu Kai’s character was written with a bit more emotional punch compared to Tian Xi Wei’s super lively performance. But honestly, those are minor complaints.

Overall, Moonlit Reunion is one of those dramas that makes you smile while also keeping you curious about what’s happening in the background. It’s got heart, humor, and a sprinkle of magic. If you’re into fantasy romance with great visuals and a couple you can root for, this is a solid pick.

When the Demon Meets the Demon Slayer

Wu Zhen is a county princess, sister to the empress, with a notorious reputation for being unruly and wild by frequenting a particular pleasure parlor, the Ruyi Pavilion, which is an unconventional practice for a respectable lady of noble birth. Little that people know, the boss of Ruyi Pavilion, Lady Huzhu is actually a fox demon and assistant to Wu Zhen, the current Cat Lord of the Demon City. A heavenly fire afflicting Chang’an 18years ago had changed her fate into a demi-demon as she is now, living her life as a human by day and demon by night. Because she needed to manage Demon City, she had to get out of the house at night with the pretense of frequenting the pleasure house, and this is how she scored the reputation of a notorious noblewoman chasing men one after another.

One day during her pleasure outings in the city, a particular Mei Zhuyu of the Mystic Department caught her eyes. Although just an unremarkable cousin of the notable renowned Mei family of Chang’an, Mei Zhuyu displayed an uncanny talent at solving mystical cases, thanks to his secret identity as Changxi Palace’s demon slayer. As demonic unrests began to unfold across Chang’an with the help of a sinister hidden hand that was also involved in the heavenly fire 18years prior, Cat Lord and Changxi Palace demon slayer raced to solve these cases, one focussed on retrieving the demons back to Demon City for punishment, while the other adamant on vanquishing them altogether, making them go head to head in the darkness but a loving couple in the lights.

The story started off really good and fast paced, the push and pull between the main leads as they dabble their secret identities throughout their relationship is pretty much interesting and not quite as cringy as i thought it would be. The action choreograph is rather good even with those supernatural powers being played on. I totally love the diversity of Serpent Lord’s character when she turned into her fiance Mei Si when he accidently swapped bodies with her. The actress played gender swap really well especially when she walk with the dress train. The actor who played Mei Si was really good during the gender swap too. The roundabout change of character and body posture of both actors is on point.

I especially liked how they managed to make the death of support character to be memorable and heartwrenching, mainly due to how the characters grew towards the end. The plot twist is very unpredictable, i had to commend on that.

However I found Xu Kai rather stiff here, not sure why, it didnt look like he had much chemistry with Tian Xiwei. It’s weird cuz I have seen many of Xu Kai’s work and although only three of Tian’s, they are obviously good actors. Unfortunately, somehow I felt the spark between their characters had been lacking. I had to admit this is definitely one of Xu Kai’s finest works that I have seen, it’s unfortunate that the chemistry didnt come through for me, else the rating wouldve been higher.

Not sure how it is in the novel, but I think the magnificient Cat Lord is a little too fragile as the story progressed throughout the show. She keeps getting injured one after another and frequently needing saving, and this definitely didnt bode well with me who prefer strong female characters. The beginning was awesome and the Cat Lord looks formidable and powerful, but this wanes gradually under the pretense of the mortal body weakening due to latent illness. I don’t mind a lead character that keeps getting injured and weak, my only pet peeve is when it’s a female character they just love to turn her into a damsel in distress so that male character would shine, despite her background being formidable and uncontested in the demon world. 🙄 Same goes to Serpent Lord, they managed to weaken this character so much that she could be rendered helpless with just a simple powder. So weak and yet they both were supposed to be co-leaders of the demon world 🫩😌.

But I can say I enjoyed the show despite my above grievance. Everyone acted well and the plot is good enough to keep me glued to the screen.

He gave up on everything for her, but couldn’t give up on her!

Sometimes love is silent gazes & patiently waiting for your loved ones. “Moonlit Reunion” is an experience that needs to be savored slowly and cherished. I went into this drama with zero expectations and came out thoroughly entertained. The reason to start this show was obviously Xu Kai, but I fell in love with it because of Tian Xi Wei. I have seen her previously in quite a few shows, but this was the first time that she made a real impression. As the half human Cat Lord, Wu Zhen, she had to portray dual roles. One was that of the infamous County Princess Qinghe. Wu Zhen is the Empress’s sister, born as the second daughter of the Duke, she has always led a carefree, unrestrained life. But in reality, she is the Cat Lord or the Second Master of the Demon Underworld. When the former Cat Lord died protecting the mortal realm from the Heavenly Fire Disaster, he meet her unexpectedly and transferred his powers to her. For eighteen years, she has masquerading as a spoiled Princess during the daytime and as a diligent Cat Lord during the nighttime. The story majorly revolves around her and rightly so!

Comforting Fantasy Drama

I watched this blindly because I like Xu Kai and Tian Xi Wei acting. Their characters had this calm aura. I thought it was going to be too slow paced for me but somehow it got me watching without skipping any scenes.
I knew Wu Zi Shu was going to be a problem and that"rodent"
I do like the little romance between the main leads and I only wished they showed more with the ending because it felt a little rush.
Overall it was good watch and I wouldn't rewatch it.

Wish we could've seen more of the previous cat lord as well as the interactions between father and son when Mei Zhu Yu went back into the past. I would have loved to have seen more development on the relationships between the supporting characters as well. Overall though, I enjoyed watching as well as how each and every character had their own personality.
