particularly with the female lead desiring to have a child with the male lead without any emotional tiesSimi_Tutu:
Not her wanting a baby donor XD LMFAO
I did hear that FL in this one is very badass. From what I saw, the leads seem fairly egalitarian and on equal footing, so that's promising, even if not too RR.
I just uh... saw something about the drama that I don't think I'd be able to handle, so it went down in my PTW list. Also, I need to detox from the ML's atrocious role in TPoB, haha-
Let us know how you like it when you get around to watching ^^
Let us know how you like it when you get around to watching ^^Arclei:
I'm curious to know what information you discovered that you might not be comfortable with. Please spill the tea!
I'll certainly keep you all updated, but it will likely be about one of the sea dramas, as I tend to watch just one episode every couple of days. I really want to stay updated on the current role reversal titles for this year, especially since my numbers were quite low last year, which left me feeling quite disappointed in myself. Therefore, I'm going to make an effort to stay on top of the dramas here so we can have more discussions.
ree0:
yall any rr recommendation where ml initially hates fl.
I second Bound by Sin. It was outstanding.
• Lesson in Love (Warning: Be mindful of the fact that it's a teacher x student pairing)
• Love Scout (Mild mutual dislike to lovers)
Doesn't quite fit your req, but might work anyway?: Hyena
FL and ML are both lawyers, and FL gets into a relationship with ML just to gather information that would beat him in court. He's heartbroken, and the love he had for her turns into hate So, the drama is uniquely "lovers to enemies to we wanna be lovers again". I will say it's not super romance heavy. The focus in on the FL and ML's rivalry/their cases, but their chemistry and tension is fantastic, and he's definitely yearner among the two.
I just uh... saw something about the drama that I don't think I'd be able to handle, so it went down in my PTW list.Arclei:
SPIIIILLLL. I'm trying to decide if I should watch the drama since it's also been on my radar.
Also, I need to detox from the ML's atrocious role in TPoB, haha-Arclei:
Why was I also thinking: ugh, it's the guy from TPoB. (Nothing against the actor, just what his characters have represented—to me—so far lol).

SPIIIILLLL. I'm trying to decide if I should watch the drama since it's also been on my radar.potatocouch:
Well... be warned that it's BIG SPOILERS!!!!
Everyone dies in the end :') I just don't have it in me to sit through an entire 40 ep journey only for it to end in tragedy. Maybe when my life's a bit better, I'll be able to stomach it, but rn... I just can't with sad endings... the spontaneous ones already kick my butt enough as is ToT
I really want to stay updated on the current role reversal titles for this yearSimi_Tutu:
Oooo, fun! I also wanna up my RR drama count this year. Especially get to a bunch of titles I've had on my PTW for very long but keep postponing out of my list xD
I second Bound by Sin. It was outstanding.potatocouch:
Did you finish this drama?
So, the drama is uniquely "lovers to enemies to we wanna be lovers again".potatocouch:
This is perfect for a challenge I'm doing + it's already on my PTW, thanks! xD
Why was I also thinking: ugh, it's the guy from TPoB. (Nothing against the actor, just what his characters have represented—to me—so far lol).potatocouch:

I liked him in Eternal Brotherhood (he was a similarly fierce and deadly character there, but he was so soft for his bros and wife, and I liked how complex he was. He wasn't a pathetic abusive loser, just unhinged and he loved and respected his wife thoroughly. At least in s1, didn't watch the second), but I just wanted to punch his towering ass in TPoB, so I'll need to give it some time XD
He's not really in a lot of bbg roles tho, so I don't think I'll be encountering him often, tbh. Even tho imo, he would kinda slay in a bbg role *shrugs* Give this man a noona romance STAT (or is Be Your Own Light that already?)
•potatocouch:
I don't believe that Lesson in Love qualifies as a story that starts with hate for the female lead, as the male lead quickly becomes her friend. In Love Scout, it's the female lead who feels anger towards the male lead, but that's really brief as well. Plus, let's be honest, both male leads in the series are just too loveable and charming , haha.
get to a bunch of titles I've had on my PTW for very long but keep postponing out of my list xDArclei:
Which dramas have you been really eager to watch? Are there any titles that stand out more than others?
Oh, by the way, which list on the front page did you transfer the airing titles from last year to? I understand you wait 12 months before moving them, but I can't seem to locate the correct list. Some of the lists on the first page contain only 1 or 2 dramas, so I'm a bit confused. I apologize if that comes off wrong in any way.
Which dramas have you been really eager to watch? Are there any titles that stand out more than others?Simi_Tutu:
- Colorful Love had been on my PTW since the dawn of time, and I'm currently watching it. Probably the one I was most excited for since ML is feminine and not only crossdressing, which I find very interesting!
- Back from the Brink - Highly recommended and even my brother says I'll like it. I'm just not usually into xianxias, so I'm postponing it.
- The Blossoming Love - Ditto^
- It's Okay to Not Be Okay has been on my radar for forever but after the lead actor's scandal from last year, I feel weird about it... ToT
- The Glory - I'm admittedly a bit scared that I won't like it.
- The Tale of Nokdu. Crossdressing men are just hard to come by and in a historical setting at that? I mean, I just HAVE to watch it.
- Trial Marriage - Watched 1 ep ages ago but never continued it fsr.
- The Judge from Hell - Watched 1 episode but wasn't wowed nor was it really the vibe at the time so I wanna give it another try.
- My Marvellous Fable - I keep glancing at it but never watching it, so I wanna try it out.
- Your Highness. This one seems very promising but it's a comedy and I rarely watch those xD
- City of Streamer- Historical noona vibes and I love both FLs + it's republican era which I really like but can't find good dramas for xD
- My Undead Yokai Girlfriend - I might actually start this one soon.. I think the time is right.
- Beni Sasu Life - Femboooooooooooooyyyyyyyyyyyyy
- Peacock in Wonderland - The matriarchy tag keeps calling to me...
- Ooku: The Inner Chamber - No subs and I'm scared of torrent sites ;-;
- Angel's Last Mission: Love
- Don't Be Shy
- + new titles: Sniper Butterfly, Riverside Code at Qingming Festival, Qingchuan's Veil of Vengeance, Return of the Queen, The Cross-Dressed Union, Dear My Baby, Glory, Love on the Turquoise Land, Legend of the Magnate, 2099
This isn't counting short-length series or movies of which there are many xD

I grimaced looking at this list T_T I might be overly ambitious
Going through my endless PTW list, I realized I actually made a lot of progress with my list last year so these are a bit of the remains, haha. Especially a lot I had been wanting to watch for long.
I'm not really sure which one I'm most excited to watch rn. I think I'm too comfortable in my vertical dramaland to think about long-form dramas atm. I'll probably just try something and see what I'm feeling, which is how it goes p much every year.
What about you? What's on your RR PTW for this year? Which ones are you most excited about?
Oh, by the way, which list on the front page did you transfer the airing titles from last year to?Simi_Tutu:
It's under the 'Recently finished airing RR titles' and above the 'Upcoming RR titles' list
Archive of all recently aired titles (Dec 2024 onwards)
Everyone dies in the end :') I just don't have it in me to sit through an entire 40 ep journey only for it to end in tragedy. Maybe when my life's a bit better, I'll be able to stomach it, but rn... I just can't with sad endings... the spontaneous ones already kick my butt enough as is ToTArclei:
Dang, NO SURVIVORS??? That's brutal! I actually really appreciate this spoiler because I don't have a tragic ending in me right now either.
Did you finish this drama?Arclei:
Yeah...hated the ending, but I try to pretend it doesn't exist 🥲 Didn't know whether to give ree that heads up or not.
I don't believe that Lesson in Love qualifies as a story that starts with hate for the female lead, as the male lead quickly becomes her friend.Simi_Tutu:
Hmm...I would definitely say the ML disliked the FL for at least that whole first episode, and bullied her because she was actually trying to discipline him unlike the other teachers. You're right about that dislike quickly developing into a crush though hahaha.
Same for the ML in Love Scout, even though he hid it behind a veneer of politeness, but yeah, neither beef is intense, so they might not be worth the watch for ree. But I just thought I'd throw them out there just in case. It's hard for me to get into most enemies to lovers (which is usually where a ML or FL hating the other would come in), but I do love a "Hey, I didn't like you before, but I do now" situation.
This is perfect for a challenge I'm doing + it's already on my PTW, thanks! xDArclei:
I can verify that they actually do hate each other lol. It's just not super romance- focused, so it's nice to watch when you're in a thriller/law procedural mood.
He's not really in a lot of bbg roles tho, so I don't think I'll be encountering him often, tbh.Arclei:
That's pretty much what I'm getting at. I don't come across him a ton in my watches either, but I kind of associate him with more "dominant/that's a Man's Man" roles.
Adding Be Your Own Light to my watchlist though :3
It's Okay to Not Be Okay has been on my radar for forever but after the lead actor's scandal from last year, I feel weird about it... ToTArclei:
YOU'RE GONNA LOVE IT!!!! One of my favorite dramas of all-time, and hardcore RR.
The ML's scandal made me sick, and sadly the FL has her own scandal of being abusive to her boyfriend. I'm not sure how the casting director managed to cast two people with issues, but boy did they. Still a very good drama though.
The Glory - I'm admittedly a bit scared that I won't like it.Arclei:
I binged the first season in one day, then waited on pins and needles for the second. A phenomenal drama in every aspect, but the RR is a bit non-existent ngl. The focus is on FL's revenge (which is engaging enough in my opinion), and I don't feel like Song Hye Kyo had much chemistry with the younger actor they cast.
The Tale of Nokdu.Arclei:
It was done well, but after everything we've discussed over the last two or three weeks, I'm not sure if you'll impressed by the FL. She did her best, but was very much a product of her time. ML was veryyyy pretty. He was perfectly cast. I had fun with it.
Ooku: The Inner ChamberArclei:
Started this, but stopped because it wasn't matriarchy-ing hard enough for me lol. To be fair, I didn't get very far and I plan to pick it back up to see if that changes.
Sniper ButterflyArclei:
My babieeeeessssss <3
Return of the QueenArclei:
I'm still surprised by how good this turned out to be.
Dang, NO SURVIVORS??? That's brutal!potatocouch:
Apparently NOT!!!! ToT Well, I'm glad my spoiler was helpful. I always check ending spoilers cuz I just can't with tragedies bruv.
Yeah...hated the endingpotatocouch:
I dropped it at ep 10 when the roles flipped. How was it after this? What about the ending did you hate?
I can verify that they actually do hate each other lol. It's just not super romance- focused, so it's nice to watch when you're in a thriller/law procedural mood.potatocouch:
Valid. I like me a sprinkle of romance. In fact, I think that's usually how I prefer my romance, haha. I'm here for the romance AND the plot XD
but I kind of associate him with more "dominant/that's a Man's Man" roles.potatocouch:
Yeeeeeeeeah, you nailed it. I think it's because he's so ridiculously tall ToT Bro gets type-casted as the aloof word-that-rhymes-with-blunt
Which sure, valid, but he looks so cute and dorky to me, so I don't get the type-casting. But it's the same with Zhang Ling He. How can anyone cast him as a red flag when he's so puppy-coded is crazy to me (I may be biased, tho. I quite disliked ZLH until I watched The Princess Royal, lol). I think the thing with Liu Yu Ning is that he can also actually portray a semi-convincing aloof badass, which leads to the typecasting. Cuz 95% of these pretty boy MLs CANNOT pull an aloof character to save their mother's life, so the one time someone can, they'll latch onto bro and never let him go.
Everyone wants the aloof badboy ML, but no one can actually portray that character because all these boys are theatre kids xDD
This is what all these MLs look like to me. Like, oh yeah, quivering in my boots rn. Really selling me the dommy daddy core.... psspspspspsps

Adding Be Your Own Light to my watchlist though :3potatocouch:
Just so you know, I was purely speculating with this one since I saw the noona tag. I haven't actually watched it so don't take it as a recc from me!! But if you do end up checking it out... let me know :P
YOU'RE GONNA LOVE IT!!!! One of my favorite dramas of all-time, and hardcore RR.potatocouch:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAa
Honestly, kudos to the director for that massive L. ToT Really pissed off that I didn't watch it sooner cuz this makes it rough cuz the scandal is so sickening... Maybe I'll be able to detach the faces enough from the drama and be immersed anyway... I sail the high seas anyway, so no cents going into them pockets
A phenomenal drama in every aspect, but the RR is a bit non-existent ngl.potatocouch:
OOP- So people were LYING to me!!!! I figured it probably didn't have that much RR, because, duh, it's Korea xD But I appreciate the heads up
I'm not sure if you'll impressed by the FL. She did her best, but was very much a product of her time. ML was veryyyy pretty. He was perfectly cast. I had fun with it.potatocouch:
Ahahaha... probably not.... :))) All the femboy dramas have VERY underwhelming FLs. Like, bro, I could go on forever about this cuz it's a huge pet peeve of mine!! It's giving blank paper x poetry, which is not a ship I vibe with at all, regardless of gender. How are you being both progressive and misogynistic in the same dang story?!?! PLS!!
It's why I'm really enjoying Colorful Love cuz FL is actually very genuine, nice, and relatable.
But hey... a beautiful femboy is all I need to at least check it out
Started this, but stopped because it wasn't matriarchy-ing hard enough for me lolpotatocouch:
Yeah, I get what you mean about that. Ooku is a recently developed matriarchy, so a lot of it is still patriarchy-focused. I watched the 2010 movie and thought it was a very interesting story, even though it wasn't the role reversal dream I was hoping for. I think the drama goes more in-depth into the current politics and lives within the harem that the movie only briefly brushed upon, so I've been wanting to check it out, but I think I'll have to watch the anime and read the manga first ;-;
My babieeeeessssss <3potatocouch:
You're the main reason for this! xD
I'm still surprised by how good this turned out to be.potatocouch:
Excited to check it out!
Colorful LoveArclei:
As you're currently viewing this, what are your impressions up to this point? It's a brief one featuring cross-dressing, and I can't help but feel nostalgic for dramas that include this theme. It takes me back to the early days when cross-dressing was a common element in many dramas. You might assume I'd be weary of it by now, but it remains my guilty pleasure.
I'm just not usually into xianxias,Arclei:
I can totally relate. I’ve made attempts to get into them, but every time I do, I just feel a sense of boredom. These dramas typically start with a strong hook but then tend to slow down in the middle. They might pick up again towards the end, but by that time, my interest has already diminished. That’s why last year, I found myself captivated by Wuxia. I love the martial arts elements, I enjoy the political intrigue, and I favor stories that progress quickly. I’m really looking forward to watching The Prisoner of Beauty this year!
after the lead actor's scandalArclei:
This is the reason I distinguish between the artist and their work, particularly when the work was released before any scandals came to light. The work is already available, and I believe that as long as I'm not financially supporting the actor involved in the scandal—like through ticket sales or ratings, which I don't consider as true support since they likely won't see those numbers—then watching older series isn't entirely wrong. It's essential to recognize their actions, but I also feel for the other actors who put in significant effort into those series and the creators whose work may go unrecognized due to one person's mistake. I find that not being aware of the ongoing controversies allows me to enjoy these dramas more. Some might see this as avoidance or complicity, but I think that if I worried about every single scandal, it would drive me to madness. I genuinely feel for the victims, and I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way. I really think this drama is quite good, aside from the scandal, because of its focus on disability and the connections with all the patients in the mental health facility. While I could do without the murder aspect, the emphasis on mental health is what truly stands out for me. The acting in this drama is absolutely spectacular, and it would be a shame for people to miss out on it, at least once, for the emotional scenes it offers. However, if you can't watch it without thinking of the scandal, I completely understand. This is just how I feel, and I apologize for the long explanation.
The GloryArclei:
Yes, this is one that I'm uncertain about. I really dislike stories that have strong bullying themes; it's quite challenging to endure.
he Tale of Nokdu.Arclei:
Crossdressing men SOLD!
My Undead Yokai GirlfriendArclei:
LOL, I was actually planning to start watching this one today after spotting it on one of your lists, but I got caught up in another drama, haha. However, I will definitely watch it this year.
Angel's Last Mission: LoveArclei:
OMG NO, THIS IS A MASTERPIECE FOR ME! 100 OUT OF 10!
YOU NEED TO WATCH! THE ANGEL ML IS SUCH A PUPPY; HE'S SO PURE! I LOVE
HIM SO MUCH, AND THIS COUPLE DOES SO MANY THINGS TO MY EMOTIONS.
Glory, Love on the Turquoise LandArclei:
I will be keeping an eye on these as well.
" It's so lively here! <3"
let's try and double our 100 Pages for second year anniversary!
I do love a "Hey, I didn't like you before, but I do now" situation.potatocouch:
I am totally obsessed with the whole enemies to lovers and lovers to enemies trope. There's just something about that delicious tension and the endless back-and-forth that gets me every single time. You'd think I'd be all about friends to lovers, but the only series where I actually enjoyed that trope was Hidden Love. For some bizarre reason, I just can't get into friends to lovers at all, no matter how many times I try. They always end up feeling so dull. I either can't stand the male lead or the female lead. It feels like they’d be better off with someone else because their friendship is always so perfect, but the moment they start dating, it's like their personalities just vanish into thin air.
At least with enemies to lovers, you're building that delicious tension, and if we're lucky, we get a storyline where both the male and female leads actually develop as characters. And even if we’re not lucky and the female lead is so unbearable she nearly ruins the whole series, we still have the male lead to swoon over. Let’s be real, most of the time, it’s the female lead that the writers totally drop the ball on. It’s like they poured all their creativity into crafting this amazing guy, and then the girl is just like, 'Oh, I guess we can make her stubborn, self-absorbed, and always in distress. That’s super attractive, right? LOL.
