She's tired of all the suffering she endured and wants a chill, quiet life with her boo.Arclei:
Fair enough, but I love a woman in power.
I also think they could've still made her righteous, but actually made her cunning and resentfulArclei:
Totally. They do "righteous anger" with male characters all the time. That's why the Korean drama Taxi Driver's on its third season lol.
it kinda feels like her suffering was just there for romantic angst ToTArclei:
Ah, I call that trauma porn.
- eps 1-4 | PEAK SHIT. All the good stuff happens in these episodes!!! OHMYGODDDDDDArclei:
Okay, I'm definitely watching.
One was a quick dead-fish kiss, and the second was a far-away, mostly off-screen kiss.Arclei:
This drama just sounds disrespectful. They put you through all that, make the FL a martyr, and don't even deliver on the kisses? Throw the writers in The Chokey from Matilda.
Her performance, too was just kinda meh imo. It didn't feel like she should've been the FL in a drama like this, is what I mean.Arclei:
I hate when I can feel actors/actresses not giving it their all. Yes, everyone's boundaries should be respected, but if I got a script for an intense drama like this and knew I'd be uncomfortable acting out some of the scenes, I'd just pass on the role. It's that easy.
ML is forced to become a concubine of the princess royal, and the angst from that is just 10/10.Arclei:
Ooh, color me intrigued. Love the premise, but I'm actually not the biggest fan of angst unless I'm getting something really delicious in return. If you're saying A Dream like the True Love will give me a satisfying return on the intimacy (emotional + physical), solid chemistry, and good kisses, then I'm willing to brave the angst.
What the heck?! How did I never hear of this?! This sounds great!!! Knight in shining armor FL to the rescue!! Would you recommend it? How's the RR? I wouldn't mind a good noona romance right about nowArclei:
Edit: Just watched the trailer. Looks promiiissiiiiiinnngggg and angstyyy but ML also seems a bit like one of those puppy-to-daddy types, so I'm conflicted TOT. pls halp
Sniper Butterfly is one of the few dramas I've rated a 10/10 this year. I binged it quickly, and it had me deep in my feelings. It's been a while since I've felt so much for fictional characters. The drama did a perfect job of displaying actual devotion. So many dramas swear their ML is devoted, but it's really just lust and control. But with the ML in Sniper Butterfly, it was actual devotion forged by respect, loyalty, and admiration for the FL. By the time I finished, I was a weepy, emotional shell of a person. I felt like I'd really lived through everything with the characters.
The ML is a puppy for most of the drama, but what's special about him is that even in the few "daddy moments" he's given, he still manages to give overgrown puppy energy. You'll understand once you see it for yourself, but the best way I can describe it is: he's always "pathetic" during his daddy moments, so I feel like it balances everything out. Like, he'll be trying to plant a kiss on the FL, but crying, begging, and whining while he's trying to do it. It's pretty delicious too.
I think you should give it a shot, but keep in mind it's a long, relatively slow drama because it focuses on character development, and wants to show you the ins and outs of the leads' relationship, and how it goes from a guardianship to romantic love. Tbh, it would've been so easy for this drama to slip into the "creepy" territory or look like it was glorifying grooming. But everything is handled so tenderly and responsibly, you see that they belong together.
The RR moments are satisfying too. FL is constantly saving the ML and sticking up for him since he's extremely timid for a loooong time. She fights his family and his bullies at school. And she grabs his wrist and drags him off while he smiles shyly. She even shoves him against various walls during my favorite kiss scene as he presses his palm against a window like freaking Rose from Titanic. It's great.
fellow puppy ML enjoyer, I respect it 🤝Arclei:
Yesss! I love a golden retriever or cinnamon roll ML.
I'm defs someone who prolly has no preference over who falls and chases first, as long as it's RR, I'll eat it up either way XDArclei:
Thanks to Forever Love, I'm starting to like when the FL chases first...>.>
Don't give up, girl! That boy just needs a like a little more red-flagging, and he's yours for sURRE! XDArclei:
Bahahaha! "A red flag a day leaves your boo with no escape."
omg, really? Good writing in my vertical minidrama?!?! That sounds promising ASF!Arclei:
Okay, I finished it, and it's good writing for a vertical drama for about 70-80%, but then unravels a bit by the end. Don't get me wrong, it's still one of the best CEO RRs I've seen, and the dialogue and banter is *chef's kiss*, but there was a plot point that should've started getting resolved somewhere in the latter half, but the drama waits until the very end to do it. Plus, they do end up giving the ML one traditional love scene at the end (I thought we had fully escaped it 😩) BUT it was only one, and it didn't permanently change their dynamic.
It's why I appreciate but still find issue with matriarchy stories presented more for a political point than for a genuine story. That it's like this, lolArclei:
Am I allowed to say that's why The Romance of Tiger and Rose almost put me off Matriarchy stories entirely? I was so excited to watch it back in the day (when RRs were super scarce) only to realize it was more...pandering than genuine.
I was like, how is this a role reversal when it's not that different from a traditional drama at its core?
- The first glaring thing I noticed was...the drama's set in a matriarchy, but the show couldn't even pass the most basic version of The Bechdel Test. I'm always willing to let that slide if the female characters themselves are 3-Dimensional, but...
- The FL automatically had to be dumber and sillier than the ML.
- FL's General Sister wanted to kill her over...a man (???)
- FL's other sickly/disabled sister's only storyline was how sad she was because no man would willingly marry her...when that shouldn't matter because in a society where men are property women wouldn't be overly concerned about appealing to men (just like in actual history). Also, tons of men would still want her because hello???? she's ROYAL and RICH.
- And the three sisters had no actual relationship with each other. FL and General Sister only interacted when they needed to have an argument fueled by the ML, and neither interacted with Sick Sister a lot. In a story set in the matriarchy, where was the sisterhood?
- Finally, the ML outsmarted everyone so easily, and his traditional kingdom beat FL's kingdom extremely easily.
I was sooo bummed out by all the obvious missed opportunities. I even wondered if a man wrote it (not saying a man couldn't write a good RR/story about Matriarchal society, but it would be more understandable if they didn't get things quite right). But because it's always been a popular drama, I never felt that I could make these points and be understood by non-RR fans since they were so impressed by The Romance of Tiger and Rose despite everything it got wrong.
but I love a woman in power.potatocouch:
Me too... sadly, in most dramas, the women get punished for wanting to take the throne *sigh*
Totally. They do "righteous anger" with male characters all the time.potatocouch:
They do! Female characters are just never given the same attention and nuance as their male counterparts and it pisses me tf off
They put you through all that, make the FL a martyr, and don't even deliver on the kisses?potatocouch:
Right?!!? It was really lacking in some good forced kisses and maybe even noncon/dubcon action- like I'M NOT EVEN SORRY- we should've gotten it
Maybe when I have a little more energy, I'll write a fic about it >:) My fanfic to-writes are just the femdom scenes I was robbed of in literally every drama I watched, lmfao.
I'd just pass on the role. It's that easy.potatocouch:
That's what I'm saying!! There are a lot of actresses that delivered a lot better vengeful/conflicted/femdom performances, so it's not like there's no one to do the job. Maybe it wasn't a casting issue but a writing issue? Idk... but it just felt very off and mostly in regards to her.
If you're saying A Dream like the True Love will give me a satisfying return on the intimacy (emotional + physical), solid chemistry, and good kisses, then I'm willing to brave the angst.potatocouch:
Man, you got me good because I tend not to notice bad chemistry or kisses unless it's atrocious, lmfao. Esp if that's a deal breaker/maker for you, I feel like my info might not be suffiecient but I'll try my best.
Intimacy - 10/10. Both dynamics. The leads are so soft and close together, and SFL is an intimate whumper, so yes.
Chemistry - Imo good for both pairings. Like, their relationships were believable.
Kisses - Uhhhh.... I forgor TOT I think they were okay? Not dead-fish but also not like... steammyyy, yknow. But there weren't many because the leads kinda go from friends to lovers and are stuck in a forbidden love situation, so their romance is very limited. Like, it's angst heavy, what can I say xD
I'm so bad at this TOT
The drama did a perfect job of displaying actual devotion. So many dramas swear their ML is devoted, but it's really just lust and control. But with the ML in Sniper Butterfly, it was actual devotion forged by respect, loyalty, and admiration for the FL.potatocouch:
Oh wow, how unusual!
Like, he'll be trying to plant a kiss on the FL, but crying, begging, and whining while he's trying to do it. It's pretty delicious too.potatocouch:
Oh.... that IS delicious xD Idk if enough to save me from cringing at mdom but it would probably make it way more palatable. Whiny/needy men, my beloved
but keep in mind it's a long, relatively slow drama because it focuses on character development, and wants to show you the ins and outs of the leads' relationship, and how it goes from a guardianship to romantic love.potatocouch:
I'll definitely keep that in mind. I don't particularly mind long slow-burn dramas as long as I connect with the characters, haha xD It might just take me a while to finish, lol. I've been corrupted by minidrama slop
Tbh, it would've been so easy for this drama to slip into the "creepy" territory or look like it was glorifying grooming. But everything is handled so tenderly and responsibly, you see that they belong together.potatocouch:
Okaaayyy added extra level of interest!
FL is constantly saving the ML and sticking up for him since he's extremely timid for a loooong time.potatocouch:
omggggggggg yesssssssssssssss. I love protective FLs SSMMMMMM- and you're telling me he's timid? AUGH as if you could sell me any more
And she grabs his wrist and drags him off while he smiles shyly. She even shoves him against various walls during my favorite kiss scene as he presses his palm against a window like freaking Rose from Titanic.potatocouch:
ex-fugging-cuse me?!?!?!?! That description sounds *chefs kiss*
Thanks to Forever Love, I'm starting to like when the FL chases first...>.>potatocouch:
Welcome to the club~ >:)
Okay, I finished it, and it's good writing for a vertical drama for about 70-80%potatocouch:
Well, can't have it all xD I say this as if it having been bad would've dissuaded me from watching, LMFAO. Good writing is just a lil cherry on top, tbh
Plus, they do end up giving the ML one traditional love scene at the end (I thought we had fully escaped it 😩) BUT it was only one, and it didn't permanently change their dynamic.potatocouch:
My honest reaction to that

Meh, I'll still watch it! I don't think I've seen a drama where there isn't at least one traditional scene, so I'm used to it by now :P Thanks for the heads up tho
Am I allowed to say that's why The Romance of Tiger and Rose almost put me off Matriarchy stories entirely?potatocouch:
No that's 10000% valid XD RoTaR was my very first asian drama so it definitely holds a special place in my heart but wow was it lacking in basically everything XD
I was like, how is this a role reversal when it's not that different from a traditional drama at its core?potatocouch:
Literally bro, they didn't even BOTHER ToT
RE your points
- God, RIGHT?! T_T I mean, I was somewhat expecting this since it's very difficult for writers to write romance where the men aren't the focus, even though if it were from a man's POV, the woman would definitely not be the only thing he thinks about, lol
- The treatment of Chuchu was DIABOLICAL T_T they did my girl SO dirty!!! I genuinely hated the way the politics were handled. Like, probably the worst political plot I've ever seen in a drama. The queen deadass preferred her stupid ass youngest daughter over her overachieving, actually capable daughter and WHY?! Because the latter was adopted... 💀 And don't even get me STARTED on Yuanyuan because why could girl do NOTHING only because she was disabled? I've often seen male characters still kick-ass despite disabilities, so??? I mean JoL is RIGHT THERE
- "Also, tons of men would still want her because hello???? she's ROYAL and RICH." - RIGHT? Though, from what I remember, I thought she was mostly just depressed in general? I don't remember her mentioning men often at all, but I might be misremembering
- Sisterhood is ALWAYS lacking in matriarchy dramas, istg.
As is brotherhood, btw.Like, idk why??? Not saying I expect princesses vying for the throne to get along, but having any kind of complex relationship would've been nice. And otherwise, like a sisterhood with ANY other character? Like everyone is utterly friendless??? The only other prominent woman is then the brothel owner, who's the worst and ends up in a traditional marriage with a man from a patriarchy which is the BIGGEST BULLCRAP EVER - "Finally, the ML outsmarted everyone so easily" - Han Shuo inferiority <3 Also, like in pretty much all matriarchy dramas... in the end, they 'fix' the matriarchy and make it 'equal'. I'm still waiting for all stories set in a patriarchy to follow suit :P
Idk why they bothered with a matriarchy when the leads were SO traditional. Like girl travelled into a matriarchy and did NOTHING with those possibilities. Though tbh, I kinda disliked FL from the get-go because in her original script, ML is OP asf and destroys the matriarchy, which is very anti-feminist if you ask me :P
You didn't even mention the SML and the atrocious, never-ending love triangle. Because I kinda liked SML, at least compared to ML, but bro was so possessive and traditional ultimately that I just got the ick (did it help that they got the TALLEST actor ever? No, defs didn't). And tell me why tf he was her teacher? Even in a matriarchy, men are treated INFINITELY better than women nowadays lmfao. Also, where were all the older men in this drama? I can only recall the brothel owner's subordinate- but why do none of the girls have fathers??? Where did they go?? Not the first time there's no older men in a matriarchy either
But the drama also has Su Mu, and lowkey I can forgive it because of him. I wish he and Yuanyuan had gotten more screen time so we could've actually gotten to see their sugar mommy x sugar baby dynamic
I've watched 14 matriarchy titles since then and have a bunch queued for this year, but the best portrayal was from a VERTICAL minidrama (Fu Ma Mei Tian Du Xiang He Li) 😭and ofc The Other Half of Me and You. Second probably goes to Hail to the Princess, which had NO budget but actually committed a surprising amount to a lot of things most matriarchy dramas don't (this one had good sisterhood bordering on homoerotic, in my eyes they were a throuple).
But you've not seen bad matriarchy until you've seen both matriarchy series from Thailand 😭😭😭 I can't even start with how disappointing those were, omg.
What was the best matriarchy drama you watched?
Did you watch Ye Cheng Fu?
the women get punished for wanting to take the throne *sigh*Arclei:
You right 😔
Maybe when I have a little more energy, I'll write a fic about it >:) My fanfic to-writes are just the femdom scenes I was robbed of in literally every drama I watched, lmfao.Arclei:
If you do, slide that link on over...>.>
LOL. I do the same thing any time I'm unhappy with fiction. AO3 hates to see me coming.
I'm so bad at this TOTArclei:
No you're not. You had me at "soft and close" and good chemistry.
I love physical chemistry, but emotional intimacy portrayed well scratches my brain in all the right ways. Ugh. Adding the drama to my list.
(Man, one of the best things I've ever done was join this club 🥹)
Oh.... that IS delicious xD Idk if enough to save me from cringing at mdom but it would probably make it way more palatable.Arclei:
Girl, I don't even think it can be called mdom. It's better categorized as emotional femdom that becomes egalitarian. I mean: in one scene ML shows up at FL's apartment drunk. They're not together at this point in time, but she lets him in because she doesn't want him to wander around drunk. She maneuvers him to the couch and sits him down. She's about to walk away to get something, but he pulls her into his lap, wraps his arms around her waist and buries his face in her chest like a kid seeking comfort. Home boy starts whispering/pleading "Don't go. Don't go" into her chest before kissing her on the lips. He ain't dominating nothing. LOL.
Whiny/needy men, my belovedArclei:
Ugh, indeed. If it's not RR, then the ML must be a whiny simp.
omggggggggg yesssssssssssssss. I love protective FLs SSMMMMMM- and you're telling me he's timid? AUGH as if you could sell me any moreArclei:
She's an absolute TIGRESS when it comes to protecting him. After dealing with his bullies, she dragged him back to class by his wrist and proceeded to yell at the entire class and say if any body else bullied him, she wouldn't let them off. The kids were shook and the teacher stood there shook.
And yes, he's extremely timid for a good chunk of the drama because he grew up in such a tiny village/has been abused. He's too scared to even voice his likes and dislikes when FL first rescues him and brings him to her apartment. FL notices this, and eventually encourages him to write his likes and dislikes down for her over time because they matter 🥺 God, I'm making myself want to rewatch it.
Well, can't have it all xD I say this as if it having been bad would've dissuaded me from watching, LMFAO. Good writing is just a lil cherry on top, tbhArclei:
Not you essentially being the See, Hear, and Speak No Evil monkeys when it comes to RRs XD I love it.
I can forgive like...middle school-esque writing, but if it's bad-bad I usually can't do it 😅 Even with verticals.
Meh, I'll still watch it! I don't think I've seen a drama where there isn't at least one traditional scene, so I'm used to it by now :P Thanks for the heads up thoArclei:
No problem. You're still totally gonna enjoy it.
No that's 10000% valid XD RoTaR was my very first asian drama so it definitely holds a special place in my heart but wow was it lacking in basically everything XDArclei:
Respect at you recognizing that, even though it has a special place in your heart. More people need that objectivity.
since it's very difficult for writers to write romance where the men aren't the focus, even though if it were from a man's POV, the woman would definitely not be the only thing he thinks about, lolArclei:
Why?? (I know why psychologically, but it's depressing). I've been writing romance for decades, and it's so easy to do because I view myself and other women as human beings. And what do human beings occupy themselves with/talk about? Their studies, work, family, friends, hobbies, hopes & dreams—not only romance/relationships. It's so easy.
I've often seen male characters still kick-ass despite disabilities, so??? I mean JoL is RIGHT THEREArclei:
Thank you! Dudes will literally be missing limbs and eyeballs, but will still be on adventures with their friends. Why is Yuanyuan always at home?? She has servants that could carry her around if she wanted.
Though, from what I remember, I thought she was mostly just depressed in general? I don't remember her mentioning men often at all, but I might be misrememberingArclei:
She was depressed in general, but I distinctly remember her constantly bringing up how no man would want her when it was time for her to start looking for a husband. In fact, when Su Mu (who was blindingly beautiful btw) came into the picture, she acted like she wasn't good enough for him even though he had a lowly position in society as a male entertainer. It didn't make any sense! I've watched British period pieces where the men are poor, ugly, bald, with a peg leg and wooden teeth, and they'll look at a beautiful, healthy sixteen year old girl and go, "She'd be lucky to have me!" In a"Matriarchy", we should've had at least a fraction of that energy with Yuanyuan during her marriage arc.
Not saying I expect princesses vying for the throne to get along, but having any kind of complex relationship would've been nice. And otherwise, like a sisterhood with ANY other character? Like everyone is utterly friendless???Arclei:
That's what I'm saying. I understand that the FL and General Sister have bad blood because of their inept mother, but FL couldn't have formed a deep bond with Yuanyuan? Or formed a deep bestie bond with another girl in the kingdom? Almost every woman the FL came across was mean/became an enemy.
Though tbh, I kinda disliked FL from the get-goArclei:
Same. She immediately annoyed me. But I kept watching because I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt.
in her original script, ML is OP asf and destroys the matriarchy, which is very anti-feminist if you ask me :PArclei:
That's part of the reason I was like...was this screenplay written by a man?? Lol. But apparently the screenwriter has improved because she wrote Prisoner of Beauty? I haven't seen it yet though, so I don't know if she likes women now or brought problematic elements from The Romance of Tiger and Rose into Prisoner of Beauty.
You didn't even mention the SML and the atrocious, never-ending love triangle.Arclei:
I barely even remember that. Maybe it's my mind trying to protect itself because the drama pissed me off so much. I was so close to dropping it. I ended up just fast-forwarding toward the end.
I wish he and Yuanyuan had gotten more screen time so we could've actually gotten to see their sugar mommy x sugar baby dynamicArclei:
That would've been perfect. We apparently have better ideas than the screenwriter.
What was the best matriarchy drama you watched?Arclei:
I can't even think of any off the top of my head, so give me some time to recall. Tbh, I haven't watched many because The Romance of Tiger and Rose turned me off so much. After watching it, I didn't trust any other dramas to get it right.
Did you watch Ye Cheng Fu?Arclei:
No. Would you say it's a better Matriarchy drama than Fu Ma Mei Tian Du Xiang He Li? What should I start with first?
If you do, slide that link on over...>.>potatocouch:
Will do xD
AO3 hates to see me coming.potatocouch:
You misspelled loves* xD Bro, drop the link!
Nice to find a fellow writer 🤝
No you're not. You had me at "soft and close" and good chemistry.potatocouch:
Okaaayy yeeeessss, can't wait to see what you think of it because it's been rent-free in my mind since I watched it! <3
I agree on the intimacy part. I love sexy physical intimacy, OBVIII, but dang bro, something about people that are just comfortable and soft with each other is SO GOOD!!!
Note: The drama does go downhill after ep 17, and imo wasn't worth watching past that point. Just thought I should mention it so it doesn't catch you off guard (my post on it)
(Man, one of the best things I've ever done was join this club 🥹)potatocouch:
I'm so glad you joined us!! And I'm honestly so happy Ree pushed me to make this club... cuz until then it was just Ree and I going back and forth through dms or each other's lists. Now we actually have a place for all of us to congregate, share, and discuss!! And a lot of folks are discovering that RR is even a thing, and I love that!
Y'all are such a fun bunch <3 I always get so excited when I see notifs from this thread
but she lets him in because she doesn't want him to wander around drunkpotatocouch:
Stopppppp, he comes to her home when he's vulnerable and she protects him when he's vulnerableeee- my heart
Home boy starts whispering/pleading "Don't go. Don't go" into her chest before kissing her on the lips. He ain't dominating nothing. LOL.potatocouch:
D'aaaawwwww, that's adorable, can't lie XD And I have a soft spot for "don't gos" said by MLs so... :P
Ugh, indeed. If it's not RR, then the ML must be a whiny simp.potatocouch:
Absolutely! Either way he's on his knees xD
After dealing with his bullies, she dragged him back to class by his wrist and proceeded to yell at the entire class and say if any body else bullied him, she wouldn't let them off.potatocouch:
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck, that's so gooooood!!!!! I literally can't get enough of protective FLs, omg.
He's too scared to even voice his likes and dislikes when FL first rescues him and brings him to her apartment.potatocouch:
Rescue puppy ML <3 That's so precious. Love how she finds a way to bring him out of his shell
Not you essentially being the See, Hear, and Speak No Evil monkeys when it comes to RRs XD I love it.potatocouch:
BEGGARS CAN'T BE CHOOSERS, OKAY?! ToT One day we'll get high quality (writing and visuals) RR dramas and that day I will probably still watch verticals because I ain't no traitor xD
I can forgive like...middle school-esque writing, but if it's bad-bad I usually can't do it 😅 Even with verticals.potatocouch:
I mean, I also have limits... But usually, if the RR is bad. If that is good, then I'll stick with p much anything, lmfao xD
I've been writing romance for decades, and it's so easy to do because I view myself and other women as human beings.potatocouch:
Yeah, but some people seem to struggle with understanding that the sex differences between men and women are basically none ToT it's not that complicated fr
Why is Yuanyuan always at home?? She has servants that could carry her around if she wanted.potatocouch:
I KNOW RIGHT?!?! Even if she cannot inherit the throne cuz of whatever reason, she should still be a political powerhouse and be able to easily scheme, have husband(s), have hobbies, etc. I think we were robbed of some epic yuanyuan boss moments! How lovely it would be for her to be so badass already, plotting and scheming or just thriving in her own palace and then just have Su Mu as her pretty accessory boytoy (a la Guo Jia from Secret of Three Kingdoms... Now that I think about it... she would've made a perfect Guo Jia.). I kinda always had this thought in my mind... Imagine if Yuanyuan and Su Mu met in the brothel instead, and they first started out as patron x entertainer... Could be either by her own accord or per FL's persuasion to go out more. I think this would've made a LOT more sense for them and also added extra steam ;)
but I distinctly remember her constantly bringing up how no man would want her when it was time for her to start looking for a husband.potatocouch:
Aaahhh, I must've missed that! You're right, it makes no sense. She would not give a FUDGE. and realistically, she would already be married with probably several concubines, let's be real. But I have a headcanon to propose... that disgusting POS mother probably gaslit and manipulated yuanyuan into being extra depressed and have low self-esteem so that she wouldn't easily get married, have her own kids, and then compete for the throne because that POS always wanted to give the throne to FL.
Su Mu (who was blindingly beautiful btw)potatocouch:
yes finally someone who GETS ITTTTT- I never recovered from this man. How is he like the only character of his kind that I've encountered, bro.
Or formed a deep bestie bond with another girl in the kingdom? Almost every woman the FL came across was mean/became an enemy.potatocouch:
Ugh, yes. I hate this trope so much. Where the lead has no friends, only love interests and rivals- please kill it with fire. It's soo tired.
But apparently the screenwriter has improved because she wrote Prisoner of Beautypotatocouch:
*awkward silence*
Sooooo I rated that drama a 5 😬 I wouldn't recommend that to anyone tbh, but I do seem to be in the overwhelming minority here, so I clearly missed the memo TOT Now that you mention that they're by the same screenwriter, it makes so much sense... Tho both are adapted from novels, so idk anymore...
But then this same screenwriter has TWO more RR dramas under her belt? I don't get it? Maybe she was heavily censored? Kinda bummed that her most popular work is traditional slop :/ and her second most popular is pretty much also traditional slop, but a little to the left, lol
After watching it, I didn't trust any other dramas to get it right.potatocouch:
You know what? Valid. You honestly don't really miss much. Most aren't worth checking out.
Fu Ma Mei Tian Du Xiang He Li is the best matriarchy drama I've watched so far. Maybe even better than The Other Half of Me and You, and if not, it's VERY close. If you want actual good matriarchies, defs watch those! But FMMTDXHL is historical, which gets bonus points from me because I love men with long hair and pretty outfits XD (My post about it in case you're interested in the GIFs, and so I don't repeat myself, haha.)
I asked about Ye Cheng Fu because I liked it even less than The Romance of Tiger and Rose, LMFAAAOO- It did some things better, ig, but uuuuuuggghhh- my issues were MANY!!! I will say ML was very coquettish and playful in a somewhat fem way, which was nice and defs better than Han Shuo. He was also a part-time brothel owner AND dancer lmfao but god they gave nothing to that matriarchy, how infuriating. FL was SO weak, but she was arrogant, so she pretended like she wasn't... Ugh, it was bad. And in the sequel, they made her stupid, too. As in, "uwu I'm so quirky". I tried two eps and wanted to continue, but ended up putting it in the cold on-hold hell. Maybe once I ran out of subbed matriarchy dramas...
After holding off on watching Colorful Love: Genderless Danshi ni Aisareteimasu for literal years because I was a lil scared I was gonna not be normal about it, I decided to just go ahead and watch it for SURE this year, and so I started it today....
And yeah.
I'm not normal about this drama.
