I wouldn't exactly say this one was good RR content, though. It was okay. I didn't rank it too high on my list. FL spends a lot of the drama being just kinda silly, FL uwu, and only shows her domineering persona sometimes.

There are a handful of cdramas that come to mind, but they're admittedly all 24 episodes or less. Even JoL, which I think was a rare drama actually worth the hype, could've easily been half its length. Definitely of the better uses of long ep counts, but I'm ngl, the overwhelming majority of cdramas should be 24 eps, and I will die on this hill xD Yes, even fantasy and historicals.

Like, my expectations for The Princess Royal were on the ground because everyone and their mom kept saying how shit FL was, how awful, how selfish, how this and that and... I found her interesting and even relatable. Like, yes, flawed, but she acknowledged them and was trying to work on herself?? Idk, female characters are not given even a small fraction of the same grace as their male counterparts.
As for female villains... Well, those are just abused by audience and authors alike. Glad Dear X had better reception.

I don't know...XD I find a lot of MLs insufferable and not well written either. A lot of writers think "tragic past" automatically means they have an interesting, 3-dimensional ML, and it doesn't. If anything it often makes them more cliche. Either that, or they'll just be like, "Hey, this guy is the smartest guy in the whole school" and that's it.
Took the words right out of my mouth. I often find myself asking, "Is he an interesting character or is the actor just attractive to me?" and I fear the answer is usually the latter ToT

Ahahahaha, I feel you 'cause I couldn't believe it as I was seeing it! It might be an instance of my wishful thinking, but basically, FL is having a really bad day and notices herself being very off and down, almost depressive. I thought this portrayal was a good period portrayal, regardless because they showed more than just her having mild cramps (aka every other drama), but on the day her period comes, she says, "Huh, the feeling of wanting to die stopped," which to me was like the confirmation that she DOES have PMDD, because I've only really heard of the term "wanna die" when actively bleeding and cramping, not before.

Hong Luan Yin - A reversed harem where ALL the men were submissive and br33dable and where FL was dominant with all of them and playing them like a fiddle!
FL was actually so cunning and clever, I loved how she actually used dirty tricks to get her way and didn't rely exclusively on plot armor! I also love how she played all her men so effortlessly.
In order of their appearance in the drama page:
ML - Prince turned courtesan. I have no idea why he was? He said he was framed in the palace, but why become a courtesan? The crown prince also knows about his situation, so idk what was going on. He seems like a seductive homme fatale at first, and he definitely has his moments, but he's also consistently caught off guard when FL is forward and flirts with him. His little wide-eyed jumps were ADORABLE.
She has a lot of scenes with him, and they're all quite nice and... risque~ SPOILERS!! Like she does the deed with him in the carriage in front of her house while SML and TML wait (and watch from the outside) o-o Also, when his brother, the crown prince, goes to visit him, she complains to ML that his brother called her names and that she should retaliate by corrupting the crown prince's beloved brother (and proceeds to bite his shoulder <3)

SML - Ex-husband general. He's very standard jealous ML only he's down tremendously and craves being dommed like he needs to breathe. He nearly got dommed by her once on their wedding night and homeboy NEVER forgot it. Throughout the drama, he's constantly remembering the moment and getting all bothered.
TML - Mistreated Cinderella "younger brother". HOLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY- He had a lil attitude at first, sassing her and pretending not to care, but the way he ends up submitting to her is just so good. It does lean a bit heavy into the kinda femdom I'm not the biggest fan of (that being male humiliation), but it was still a delight. He's mistreated in the family, so she protects him a LOT and thus he starts getting clingy.
He's so ridiculously pretty and soft. His white robes and the loose hair with those puppy eyes on the brink of tears were doing something to me. There's a scene where she's applying medicine to his back, and she pushes him down, and it's exquisite, tbh. She also wants him to call her "jiejie" as a reward for helping him~ AAAAAAA

4th ML - Childhood friend general. He shows up the least and was a biiiiiit annoying. He's the very loud, childish kind with a hot temper, and he hates FL, but the way he instantly caves when she leans in too close is 10/10.

Feng Ta - Started off pretty damn strong and was reminding me a lot of Forever Love. FL is relentless in her pursuit of ML, and he's not interested (but secretly is). She's quite toxic, red-flag-esque, forcing him, coercing him, and trying to buy him. She even abducts him from his own wedding to another woman because, and I quote, "your wedding night can only be mine."
And did I mention ML has glasses? Because he does, and he looks so cute with them! It was only when watching this drama that I realized how rare it is to find a ML with glasses in an RR drama. What a miss~ we need more nerdy cuties
Sadly, they do a time skip, and the roles are reversed. FL remains fairly strong-ish, but it was reminding me a lot of Bound by Sin with that switch-up. ML is still pathetically devoted to her, but just... dominant. Yikes.

So FL is a vampire, and ML is her favorite snack. He ends up as her companion/caretaker (food source), and she feeds on him OFTEN to the point bro starts becoming anemic ToT Besties, I was UNPREPARED for the steaminess and hotness of this woman perpetually being attached to his neck!!!!
The catch? Her fangs and saliva have an aphrodisiac effect, so this man is perpetually needy asf. The steamy scenes are not for the weak because oh my god Wu Tianhao's pleading face is next level- This man plays submissive SO good. PLS. What I found particularly scandalous is that FL doesn't give a single tick tock tick tack about where the hell they are and will force him into subspace in front of his family. In front of his friends. In front of his teachers. I was SHOOKED. Caught my ass looking around to see if anyone else was seeing this crazy shit.

Finished it. As far as verticals go, this one tried to do something slightly different with the story, but the execution was less than ideal. Very cringe at times BUTTTT no bait-and-switch! And the role reversal? Absolutely delightful (leaning heavily into femdom cuz duh)
Really grateful that ML was so enthusiastic and needy all throughout and didn't suddenly become dominant once he 'realized he loved her' or anything (seems to be a common trope, yikes). Though yes, in the second half, he becomes more active and assertive, she never loses the power, and it's framed as her allowing him to lead (for a bit anyway. She usually always ends up domming him in the end). But even when he does 'lead', it's in a needy "please don't leave me. Pls [redacted] me" kinda way, which is still subby asf. For those who like mutually possessive lovers but still remaining RR, this one was great!
I was positively surprised that FL never lost her power romantically or literally. I was totally expecting them to somehow subdue her and strip her of power so that ML could save the day, but NOPE! That did not happen!!! She remained effortlessly powerful until the very end and even saved him in the finale! TWICE!!
I thought it was hilarious that ML took a very potent drugTM so that she would get affected by it when she fed off of him, then took the antidote (don't think about it, it makes no sense) and left her to 'protect her' only for them to immediately cut to her showing up where he had gone like "Aw, did my puppy run away?" xD Like that did not work at all and I'm so glad it didn't cuz it was dumb asf
