They don't bother me the way they seem to bother a lot of younger people. I mean, two guys? That's a starter harem, babyyyyy.

They're also usually not handled well because there's one real lead who gets the actual screen time (even worse if the leads are already married, and then there's just a random other person trying to homewreck, like boy, ever heard of a hobby?). I also often end up feeling bad for the person that doesn't get picked (because god forbid it actually end poly), and they usually don't end up with anyone and just end kinda miserable (or often dead). Either that or they're utterly insufferable, lol, like bro gtfo. If there were RR love triangles or ones ending in polyamory, I'd probably be a lot more tolerant of them.
They're also inescapable. Like my GOD, give it a rest ffs.
But those are just my two cents

I haven't watched either one. Both were on my PTW, but after seeing people's posts and hearing from mutuals, I removed them. LotFG seems to be very bait-and-switchy, and FL undergoes what my friend said was "girlification" which does not impress me. As for Shadow Love, I just heard it was kinda bad, and I dislike the lead actress. She has no range, and with the way they styled her in the drama, I just don't buy that she's a general, so it's hard for me to suspend my disbelief. And as much as I like Ryan Cheng, I just have no interest.

A Toe-curling RR Hidden In A Traditional Vertical
The Wedding Mix-Up (婚婚逢她)
I'm sure you guys can probably tell, but after watching an RR called Forever Love I became obsessed with Xue Zi Qi, the actress who portrayed the best red flag FL CEO I've ever seen in...well...anything.
Now I'm binging her verticals, RR or not. I started watching one called The Wedding Mix-Up, and it's about two sisters: one older and business-oriented (played by our favorite dommy mommy Xue Zi Qi) and one younger and spoiled. They're supposed to marry two brothers with the same sibling dynamic, but the brothers get delayed because of a snow storm. The sisters wrap up the wedding ceremony on their own, and accidentally go into the wrong villas, so when the brothers arrive later that night, the older, serious one ends up with the spoiled younger sister and the younger, frivolous brother ends up with Xue Zi Qi's intense, suit-wearing character. They're the secondary couple so I didn't think they'd get much screen time and I didn't think the RR would be that prominent.
Boy was I wrong:
What I thought was mostly going to feature traditional dynamics has delivered some of the best RR scenes I've ever seen! They're so juicy I actually threw my phone a couple of times.
The vertical gave:
- Not one, but two scenes of the SFL carrying the SML bridal style (they did this just for you Arclei)
- SFL ripping open SML's dress shirt
- Exposed male shoulders
- Exhibitionism O.o 🔥
- The younger sister trying her hand at RR with her dom hubby (my jaw dropped)
It's soooo good. I can't believe all of this was hidden in a traditional drama, and I would've totally missed out if I'd taken it at face value.
Now here's the bad news:
It's not on MDL yet (I submitted it). I'm watching it on iQiyi. I've found subbed uploads on Facebook and Dailymotion, but whoever uploaded them did the unthinkable: they removed the extended kiss/love scenes. So, the toe-curling moments are still there, but they fade to black instead of showing you what really happened. Example: they cut out Xue Zi Qi's character shoving the SML face-first into their hotel window, and er...giving their neighbors a show. And they also cut out the younger sister TYING UP HER DOM HUSBAND AND REDUCING HIM TO A SHAKING, QUIVERING PUDDLE. This is a crime. I don't know why these parts were removed since verticals with more explicit scenes exist. But the RR is still surprisingly good. The younger sister can be annoying, so I watch most of her parts on 3x speed—except for when she decided to try out domming. Still not over that.
I'm going to keep looking for uploads that haven't cut out any scenes, but if you have iQiyi, you're good to go. If anyone watches, please let me know. I must gush about this with another person.

Me too, but I like seeing the FL chased/have options lol. I'm into love triangles for the journey (which usually consists of angst, yearning, and pining) not the inevitable, poorly handled destination.

Remember I don't watch a lot of historical C-dramas or historical dramas at all (even though I've tried over the years). I just got into them last year lol. So in most of the modern dramas I've watched, no couples have already been married and the love triangle stakes weren't so high. Some of the dramas even end up giving the broken-hearted SML the SFL or another woman that comes into the picture.
I do understand why people don't like them though.
And the worst part was the amount of comments I got excusing it was diabolical.
*sigh* They always do. I vaguely remember them doing that for The Romance of Tiger and Rose and The Wolf. The scene in The Wolf was especially egregious and disgusting. I think that's what made me drop it even though my mom kept watching.

Really?! I'm seeing people gush over it even though they acknowledge it has pacing issues. The end is supposedly life-changing. I don't know if I'm gonna continue it to be honest, but I'll see. As for The Legend of the Female General, I'll tread cautiously.

You know what helps me? Writing in an actual notebook with an actual pen or pencil. The words flow easier than when you're typing. The act of writing stimulates your brain differently. Joyce Carol Oates, Stephen King, and Quentin Tarantino all write by hand.
Then when my creativity has been kickstarted I just go back to my laptop.
Writing in a new location like a coffee shop or the library also helps.

So, apparently, a whole bunch of verticals with this exact plot just got released. I tried to watch one of the other versions (it could be the same one you saw on YouTube) yesterday, but it was just...bad. The traditional couple had too much screen time, and the RR was lackluster. But with the Xue Zi Qi version, the intensity is ramped up across the board, the RR is extreme, her couple gets a decent amount of screen time, and the traditional couple even has a RR moment (a shockingly delicious one. I was fanning myself).
