Unfortunately I still don’t see Moon Chae Won gaining that much popularity at least in social media like if…
I know right. Why isn’t she popular? I think it’s not Innocent Man that made her popular though, it was The Princess Man (at least for sageuk fans like me) considered one of the best historical dramas.

I hadn’t heard of Moon Chae Won before I saw Flower of Evil. But because of her performance and beauty in FoE,…
Her must see dramas aside from Flower of Evil are Princess Man, Painter of the Wind (she’s supporting role but this is her important breakthrough role plus her partner the female lead is a great actress), Innocent Man, and Good Doctor. For movies, she received awards for War of the Arrows and Love Forecast. I haven’t seen Love Forecast or Good Doctor but I will watch them real soon. The other works I mentioned are really great but especially Princess Man and Painter of the Wind.

An interesting introduction to a couple of actresses I was not familiar with, thanks! Like some other commenters,…
I cant accept 2020 as her breakthrough too. It was only her comeback after a few years of lackluster projects, but she was a very successful actress. In fact, she got famous first BEFORE some of today’s biggest kdrama names are. She got famous first before Song Joong Ki, Kim Soo Hyun, and technically Lee Min Ho too (nothing against them I just want to explain how long ago she was popular before them). Her first breakthrough is way back 2008 in Painter of the Wind where her coupling with Moon Geun Young was so well loved people voted them to be best couple despite SBS station initially not nominating them. Lee Min Ho’s Boys Over Flowers started later in 2008 so technically Chae Won got popular a few months before he did. 2009, more people know her name due to Brilliant Legacy having high ratings. In comparison, Song Joong Ki’s breakthrough as an actor plus becoming more popular was in 2010, the year Sungkyunkwan Scandal aired and Running Man variety show started. Chae Won became acclaimed as an actress in 2011 with lead drama Princess Man and movie War of the Arrows. That year was the year Kim Soo Hyun first got popular with Dream High and it wasn’t until 2012 he became acclaimed with Moon Embracing the Sun. Song Joong Ki got the serious actor treatment as supporting role in late 2011 drama Tree with Deep Roots and it was not until 2012 he got acclaimed leading roles with Innocent Man and Werewolf Boy. I hope this explains how Moon Chae Won got popular first before some of today’s top actors which is why I don’t accept 2020 as a breakthrough, more like a comeback.

Thanks for your appreciation on Moon Chae Won. Her career highlight before starring in Flower of Evil was not her drama with Lee Min Ho though. (I apologize, but I just dont like her being introduced as Lee Min Ho’s costar considering their drama together was a flop in contrast to her drama after her drama with him which was acclaimed and I feel deserves more attention but is less well known today since there are no hallyu stars there). As a supporting actress, her career breakthrough is her historical drama Painter of the Wind (the drama she did after her drama with Lee Min Ho) with Moon Geun Young (an acclaimed actress with many awards in both drama and film but who’s no longer popular with today’s crowd). Despite being a supporting actress, people who watched their drama liked their chemistry more than MGY and her male lead. This was a big deal since they were both women and it was 2008. They even won best couple award in SBS Awards 2008 and was the only couple to won there that year (which is amazing since they were originally not nominated as best couple and they were just added since most people complained and thought they deserved to be there). This was also the role that gave her her first acting award in Korean Culture Awards plus also her first baeksang nomination. Also, she technically became popular first before Lee Min Ho since Painter of the Wind aired a few months before Lee Min Ho’s Boys Over Flowers. After that, she was the second lead in one of 2009’s highest rated dramas Brilliant Legacy. She didn’t receive any awards for this show but her acting was praised especially in one of the episodes with her character’s mother. Then a few more supporting roles before her first leading role in It’s Okay Daddy’s Girl in 2010. Her real beeakthrough that sealed her as a lead actress though are her historical projects in 2011 The Princess Man kdrama and War of the Arrows Movie. She received more awards for Korean Culture Awards. For War of the Arrows, she won Blue Dragon (Korean Oscar) and Grand Bell Awards. For Princess Man, she won Top Excellence at KBS Awards, her second Baeksang nomination, plus some nominations in Montecarlo France Awards. Because of her success in her 2011 historical projects, plus her earlier breakthrough in Painter of the Wind, she became really known as someone who is really good in hanbok. 2012-2013, she did Innocent Man and Good Doctor, both dramas gave her more awards from KBS Awards plus some acting nominations too. 2014-2015, she focused on movies and from those movies, she received an award for Love Forecast. 2016-2019, her dramas were not really popular and thus less people knew her, though she still have the historical movie Feng Shui/Myeongdang where the audience still praised her for looking good in hanbok plus acting good in historical projects. Flower of Evil is her comeback, I’m really grateful for this project since newer kdrama fans (I realized there were a lot of newer kdrama fans since 2016) got to know her. I just wished she gor at least one award for Flower of Evil, don’t know why she was snubbed during the awards season. Thanks so much for appreciating her, and like you, I also really love her portrayal of Cha Ji Won.
You’re really right, Moon Chae Won is really a very beautiful actress. I always think of her as pretty but watching Flower of Evil made me pay attention again to the works of her I’ve seen, and gosh I feel like some of the actresses I always considered pretty are no longer as pretty as her (even though I still find them pretty).

I love her in My Girlfriend is a Gumiho and Arang and the Magistrate. She’s so good in portraying these immortal/mystical beings that have a cute and naughty side.

See! How can a drama like this get 8.0 and a drama like Mystic Pop-up Bar get 8.7??? It’s crazy! To me, this…
I noticed most older dramas have lower ratings than newer ones. If you checked the dramas with highest ratings, most of them are from 2016 and after.

I trust Kim Yoo Jung with this one. She’s good in romance sageuk dramas since she was 10 years old. Most people didn’t know, but I feel her performance in Moon Embracing the Sun is just a repeat of her performance in her 2010 drama Grudge the Revolt of Gumiho, minus her being a gumiho/monster part. In both dramas, she has a romance even if she’s a child (she even has a kiss scene in Gumiho Fox Child), her character sort of died and sort of resurrected, plus there is a girl her same age who is a bitchy and very evil rival to her. Kim Yoo Jung will be good in this one (I’m not sure with the male leads though). However, while I’m excited for the romance, I’m also excited for the painting aesthetics. This drama’s director is the one who did one of my fave dramas Painter of the Wind, a historical drama way back 2008 that also starred a former child actress (Moon Geun Young, who was kid Song Hye Kyo in Autumn in my Heart). Interestingly, Kim Yoo Jung was the child version of the female lead in that drama and that drama was the first time I’ve seen her in. This drama is actually a reunion of Kim Yoo Jung and her director from when she was a small kid

We're not 100% sure, they could have chosen to put the childhood parts in the middle episodes as we go along the drama. And who knows, they could be really great actors. I remember people were not happy that Moon Embracing the Sun will have 6 childhood episodes because they couldn't wait for the adults, but what happened is people ended up liking the children more than them.

I don't get why people call this drama super "ridiculous" and "boring" and "meaningless". I really enjoyed it,…
I feel like CLOY fans dislike this drama because Song Hye Kyo was Hyun Bin’s ex (not sure, but I saw on twitter rivalry between both actresses).
This is not my fave drama, but I rewatch some scenes because SJK is one of my fave actors (plus I really adored the songsongcouple when they were together).

It's on dramacool
I realized there’s so many dramacool sites. Try to search Dramacool Ai Princess Man (I was able to watch Painter of the Wind there, another historical drama of MCW that’s is not found on any streaming sites, I hate how my most favorite Chae Won dramas are the ones that can’t be found anywhere). Or maybe go to Dramacool Ai homepage, click white lines besides name dramacool on top left, click, dramalist, go to korean dramas, select 2011, go to letter T, and find The Princess Man there.
Here’s the link for the homepage: https://dramacool.ai/genre/drama.html?page=17

Scarlet heart?
I'm thinking this will be more similar to Moon Embracing the Sun or Moonlight Drawn by the Clouds (Kim Yoo Jung visuals hehe) with some elements from Painter of the Wind also (due to drama about painting plus same director as Painter of the Wind, KYJ was also in this drama). I haven't seen Scarlet Heart yet, but from what I've heard, I guess a drama like The Princess Man will is quite more similar to it (more of a romance melodrama with more tragedy).

I feel so sad that when people talk about the child actors in this show, they only remember Kim Yoo Jung (young Han Ga In/Yeon Woo), Yeo Jin Goo (young Kim Soo Hyun/Hwon), and Kim So Hyun (young Kim Min Seo/Bo Kyung). Along with the three of them, actor Lee Tae Ri (young Jung Il Woo/Prince Yangmyung) is also a child version of the four main characters (in the poster). I wish more people remember him. The other child casts are good too, but Tae Ri specially deserves a mention with the trio since he is playing a young version of the four main leads. I feel so sad that he is extremely underrated. Especially sad when I see fanvids of the trio as adults without including Tae Ri. He's Prince Yangmyung after all.
Trivia: The four of them have a unique connection as child actors since the two boys both played couples with the two girls in other dramas (almost all dramas happened before the trio got popular). In Iljimae (2008), Yeo Jin Goo and Kim Yoo Jung played the young versions of main lead couple Lee Joon Gi and Han Hyo Joo. In Grudge the Revolt of Gumiho/Gumiho Tale of the Fox Child (2010), Kim Yoo Jung is playing a lead role as a child actress while Lee Tae Ri is a supporting character who is her main love interest. They even have a kiss scene. In Thorn Birds (2011), Lee Tae Ri and Kim So Hyun played the young versions of main lead couple Joo Sang Wook and Han Hye Jin. In I Miss You/Missing You (2012), Yeo Jin Goo and Kim So Hyun played the young versions of main lead couple Park Yoo Chun and Yoon Eun Hye. Like Yoo Jung and Tae Ri in Gumiho, Jin Goo and So Hyun also have a kiss scene in their drama. So we can say that the actors who play the second leads in this drama actually kiss the actors who played the people they have a sided love for in other dramas.

This batch of teen actors really left this “reputation”. Back then, producers would rally into casting them…
Lee Tae Ri too (Prince Yangmyung). People forget him a lot but he’s also good in this show

Dont forget Lee Tae Ri. I know he’s wxtremely underrated but he’s also paet of the young version of the four…
Agree. But I will only agree if Lee Tae Ri is included in the lead cast. If it’s only the trio, I wouldn’t like it. I love the trio and definitely think they are talented (Kim Yoo Jung was the one I knew first since I discovered her in Painter of the Wind), but Lee Tae Ri doesnt deserve to be forgetten (he’s been underrated and forgotten compared to the trio, I feel so sad when I see fanvids that doesnt include him).
