For whatever reason, ratings in general are just heavily inflated on this site. Some dramas that "everyone seems…
a lot of places do that that have rankings like unofficially i think. i was on novelupdates and apparently it kinda works that way. reviews help absolutely too and word of mouth is how shows get popular. so this having a v. high rating on a super populated site is certainly...interesting.
it was only that i looked into it, and saw a little, that i was like jeez this is not for me. i come here to look at how people feel about it but idk. and people hate critiquing shit or being critiqued. a lot of these things are inflated and people feel as if it's "deserving" or not but we can't know for sure. i can think of plenty of things that i personally think are inflated even if i liked it. it isnt terribly accurate but the way the internet is it's all about engagement and extremes. it's so hard to get an accurate read because the critiques i see are very thorough and they're the issue i have but you have to search a lot. and it's sad bc dissenting opinion in the comments is pretty shunned so then people aren't getting more than a few interactions or comments to explain.
lowkey dissapointed in how the writing turned out as the story progressed. I loved the beginning episodes and…
ty foryour words. im not gonna finish the show but this is the impression i got. i'm not a huge fan of ok taecyeon as an actor but i KNOW he has such charisma and it's a joy to watch him. i would have liked to see him more in this role. he's a lot of fun.
This is not an anti hero or a mafia show. This is the story of a wannabe mafia who people call an anti hero becoz…
this really upsets me :( i know many people may not be interested in the sociopolitical aspects on a bigger sphere (ie a fucking capitalist fanboy ugh) but when you have a show about crime to show that crime is NOT real crime and that everything is a lie and we should restructure and don't deliver and dole out hypocrisy then the message is decimated imo and i fucking cannot stand presenting something one way and not delivering on it. tbh i am now thnking through so many things and the hypocrisy is insane. your username reminds me though, when watching the good detective they made it so clear who these people were and what they weren't doing and their selfishness. constantly hammering that home. this is more cultish and a veneer but a mainstream attack on capital will always end with: the people gaining the gold and not eschewing it
not for me. i'm kinda sad but because the show doesn't make it clear enough about not being sympathetic it's just. hard for me to want this.
also i think people kind of have to understand that shows need to make it clearer about being a piece of shit. with lolita, for example, you are lured in but you KNOW this is fucking insane and HH is so deceptive and slimy and, ultimately, charming. this is what needs to be cemented. if sjk is saying he feels bad that people see him in a more positive light/not evil and as an anti-hero, which he is apparently not, then the show must highlight that. and they do but in the way that people fall into that false sense of security and accept nightmares as satisfactory.
i am reading comments and i can't totally say everything cos im now never gonna finish this what i can say is things that i don't like in stories: it is interesting to see people use the idea that he is either an anti hero (if so, not done well) or evil and consequences should be expected. except the point was an underdog story not underdogs becoming the overlords—this is the way people view victories in capital though. always. so. you can be a crime boss, lord, whatever and be an anti-hero. we have so many examples and the bare point of him being in the mob (even though imo there's like way too much obsession with being an ex-pat or whatever it's so weird) is that sure they may not be "good" per se but they do not pretend. they're not as bad as the cops and the ones at the top because they hide in the shadows as well.
at its base though the mafia is also a capitalist nightmare but at least it's about that. in gangs and in crime that's the point and they dont lie. if the point is just to gain power for no ends i want to know what that would improve for their material conditions? anyway he is meant to be empathized, sympathized over, loved and felt attracted to and you're meant to like him, he is meant to be the hero, so to then circumvent all that through character and story but not have the consequences clear then just means we are watching this dude do shit with little friction or stakes and clear adoration from others. even though he is terrible and we know he is terrible? this is incongruent simply as it does not give us a flipside to enjoy him on but he's constant—is that progression or development? seems stagnant to me.
i think it's romanticized very much to the point where "killing bad people" is very watered down. these shows should be able to say so many things at once and especially when you're writing a /good/ dramedy having the flow of that comedy be consistent. there's a lot of missed potential here for me i guess and the prospect of the ending just depresses me. it's also not as radical as it tries to be and that's so fucking frustrating.
also….ok this is…gonna sound crazy even tho it isnt but do you see how often we use the idea of public property as a vehicle to antagonize and "liberate." it’s always the idea of ownership and a plot of land or something which is the base idea of capital (to protect capital, even though for ex like with slaves they are property to create a surplus for property) so it’s just. extremely. funny. that you have to obtain a piece of property that has gold in it so you can take it but also to liberate people. i’m sorry it’s just like…..you walked into that one.
i have yet to finish 60ds i lit have 2 eppisodes left but i cant part from it :( honestly i would kill for a line…
ohhh i do not think LOD is anti-cop. i think honestly it's staunchly copaganda. any depiction i am sincerely against on principle lmao but hahah yea i know! i lived there for a couple years! that's how i got into LOD lol (while i was in film school no less) and im really excited to catch up with 5.
i agree with you though they could have the serial format. the thing about LOD is that it is balls to the wall bonkers. that's the allure, the shit that happens and the pattern within the seasons. it's like immense entertainment mixed with some good storytelling (and of course acting. thank you ms thandiwe!)
and exactly, that's the thing. that's the reason why i havent seen line of duty since cos it's just. SO MUCH HAPPENING but iin the best way. i definitely think they cuold do it and have new inventive things to say even if it's about cops. it would be interesting to see which direction they go in if they did.
idk if u have seen this but stranger (s1+2) is one of my fav kdramas ever so if u havent u might like it!
i NEEEED THIS TO BE GOOD. PLEASE. dude ji jin hee is a fucking amazing person his picks in dramas are so like idk. i respect him so much. and i love kim hyun joo (i hated watcher and her in watcher but it made me love that fingersewedon bitch) and sunhwa??!??!? (in save me 2) all great projects with good writing and sociopolitical messages (minus watcher but tha'ts fine) i'm super excited also they are all very hot
also sunhwa is great casting as her younger self i dont see it for yeon woo jin but i am interested to see how they will do it >:)
I do not think that being Korean entitles you to a valued opinion about Korean history. Everyone may have an opinion,…
no worries! i know it seems daunting. i am an artist and typically the things i believe aren't in the mainstream. there's a lot more censorship for people who want extreme positive change than not. (ex of this: facebook erasing posts from radical leftists but targeting ads etc to people to influence them into more right wing shit because it is a direct benefit of facebook's...opposition to systemic abuse of authority will always be crushed more. that's why 100k is sort of a surprising number.) most likely, the people involved in this uprising won't support something that could implicate people in a devastation that shouldn't have happened.
but the thing we have to realize is that we get swept up in the fear of what the mainstream presents and not its reality. there's so much stuff corporations pull just to get good sway. we've had a lot of renames/rebrands of shit post-may bc of BLM and the performative nature of those who want money. YES it may be silly and not matter for some of these things but they know that causes a distraction. to give into petty demands to make it look like censorship is such a large sweep as opposed to the artists who literally cannot say the things in which they want to say them and thus refuse to collaborate with channels (a good ex is the woman who directed school nurse files! there's a lot of cool socialist south koreans...) like the idea of "canceling" is so entrenched in our brain we can't be privy to the manipulative reality we are in.
ostensibly, if the show is doing something as unsavory as is reported, what would be the harm were it not to air? now if it aired, and it's still unsavory, what would be the harm if it does air? there's quite the difference isnt there.
anyways yea like....idk. there's always a way to say what you want and be the person you want to be. people are thinking in absolute limits here and life is simply not that predictable.
people dont get there's a lot going on the world. i just learned yest that when they broadcast vincenzo over here…
exactly. and not only that, though someone also tried to argue this with me, these are private companies. they have their own rules. that's the problem with capitalism so if people were against not having total control and being under the mercy of others then they should protest this which will help topple societal ills and then they can live in the land of freedom where everyone can say whatever they want ^_____^
but seriously also aaand as well....people change things for productions. all. the. time. all that product placement we see isnt just a magical and organic decision. people are passing through that shit telling the crew exactly how they want it positioned or if theyre doing it right. you can't film without someone looking over your script etc like i dont get it. so i guess by this logic every single piece ever made is, actually, censored*
*i think this is a fair argument. we are censored everyday and we censor ourselves. that's cos we arent robots and have home training and understand what is appropriate in what context other wise there will be consequences. freedom to express doesn't mean the freedom for your dumb ideas to not be challenged. freedom to express means they have the freedom to complain and if a /private/ company thinks it's too much of a net loss, that's on them. in every ex where a show was canceled that was still /on them/ lmao and it's all about that return on investment baybeeeeeeeeeee
I do not think that being Korean entitles you to a valued opinion about Korean history. Everyone may have an opinion,…
there's a good piece i linked in here and "cultural experts" (people who can use their brains) said that these situations aren't alarming nor do they signal the end of like making historical dramas, doing what they want etc they said that the solution is being aware of the context of the time and cross reference scripts across platforms. they do this anyway by standard protocol and remove/add things all the time. there's obviously a particular period of time that things can snowball from momentum but this also won't be a constant. also it is very interesting that this case can be dismissed as overreaction while the last two seem to be more of an "overreaction" so therefore every case where people are "outraged" (it's 100k people...out of millions like? my god. and we know how they covered it up so why are people that worried abt "free speech" when the gov won't say wtf they did?) is now invalid. it's purposeful.
The amount of people feeling entitled to criticize Korean netizens in these comments is ridiculous. People seem…
people dont get there's a lot going on the world. i just learned yest that when they broadcast vincenzo over here they're going to take out some CN products for american viewrs (on netflix.) it's so fucking weird and everything is so complex and jumbled right now but still connected. the sinophobia just collectively heightening and people straight up denying what governments are doing for their pleasure or to be right. what a mockery. and yet even with these obvious patterns and tensions, people have the audacity to pretend that this behavior is in anyway comparable to actual censorship and literal material harm. it's still shocking to me after the shooting in georgia in the US. just bonkers.
it was only that i looked into it, and saw a little, that i was like jeez this is not for me. i come here to look at how people feel about it but idk. and people hate critiquing shit or being critiqued. a lot of these things are inflated and people feel as if it's "deserving" or not but we can't know for sure. i can think of plenty of things that i personally think are inflated even if i liked it. it isnt terribly accurate but the way the internet is it's all about engagement and extremes. it's so hard to get an accurate read because the critiques i see are very thorough and they're the issue i have but you have to search a lot. and it's sad bc dissenting opinion in the comments is pretty shunned so then people aren't getting more than a few interactions or comments to explain.

honestly i would kill for a line of duty remake. frankly any version of that show—though i am anti-cop—i would watch. just. drown in. LOL
