eaux in win's room he has nirvana, radiohead, and arctic monkeys posters. shout out to the production designer for picking the goats. 2/3 are fav bands of all time and AM is pretty good too good for her. during the end shot in the opening he had his nirvana poster on the back of his door and team an oasis one but win also had an oasis poster on his wall. fun lil detail (even if i don't rate oasis, i'm gad they have presumed tastes)
This was soo good. I really loved UWMA so this is such a nice throwback to a couple we didn't get to see enough…
i was surprised too! in the book you can kinda get a glimpse of his anxieties and insecurities and what his problems are though and since this is about them i suppose they'll expand. it will definitely make it interesting though for char development. def would wanna see that version of him come out as he gets more comfortable
hope u dont mind my reply; put it below spoiler tag cos long and spoilers i guess
i don't think you have to accept, or romanticize, toh's behavior to enjoy the show. that's pretty secondary to why i didn't like it, actually. the show's known name for french (on MDL at least) is 'stalker' but in english it's 'secret crush on you'. these names elicit two totally different responses; does the former not present a problem already? indicate what the audience is supposed to think? there's another show that has sort of a similar plot but i/the audience was never under the illusion to call him anything but a freak.
anyway, for toh, the whole situation is just really fucked up; it showed a lack of character development and depth when, well into the series, he was still doing absolutely absurd, asinine, and sad behavior. and fuck other BLs that pull bullshit or worse bullshit too! and i'm not saying that toh was an insane stalker or anything but what he did was really fucking weird and fucked up to himself and for nuea. also: you don't have to have someone believe you harmed them to do harm, nor do you have to put them in direct danger to be harmful—it could be emotional, psychical. again, i'm not calling toh abusive but this behavior is still absolutely unnnnaaaacceeeeptable and the scale at which it is done is b o n k e r s. bananas. we have to ignore it or turn off our brain to make it make logical sense. that's fine if you can power through, many couldn't.
additionally, i don't think it's fair to paint a broad brush and decide for people why they don't like it. there's this idea that the main thing is bc the chars aren't masculine. while i'm sure that's a part of it what about the show's failure to deliver? and how can you know this theory is correct for sure? the comments here are overwhelmingly positive and so are the reviews which is kind of nuts to me. i look to see if there's new opinions and critiques but they are honestly not very varied.
it would have been even more interesting to be able to focus on daisy and som as well but well. it seems as if the women in the series, a trans woman!, were less important as secondary characters in comparison. anyway, there's a lot of flaws with this show so i would give the viewers more credit. btw i have seen some really gross comments insinuating men, those who are deemed masculine being called girly for displaying certain behaviors. like, on this website. no one can fucking win bc ppl are so complex. it /is/ homophobia and that is exactly what it would be were that the large, almost sole, cause for purported dislike (and that is born out of the male patriarchal ideal that men wrought and we all have in us and uphold. it's sexist, misogynist, /transmisogynist/ which this genre cannot break with).
to me, people make assumptions that these issues aren't foundational to the genre and this show disentangles them so any dissent is misplaced or it's this specific reason and therefore incorrect. we do value masculinity, and men should be able to express themselves and fight that shit and their contribution to it, but it's unfair to say the majority female audience have this huge roadblock disengaging them from a fantasy they are literally being sold. that the, rightfully critical, reactions are based on this one—frankly much smaller imo—thing.
also, the dude who plays toh is not ugly or unconventionally attractive. he's thin, he has nice teeth, clear skin, he's young, fair skin like no. they put glasses on him and gave him a bad wardrobe, but he is conventionally attractive. the problem was the acting and the choices that were made. sometimes things just have problems and many won't find it good but, for reasons i won't understand, it looks like plenty of people absolutely do.
remembering when a woman stopped getting an abortion bc a man who isn't carrying the child demanded—after he barged into the operating room while her legs were spread to begin the procedure—she keep it for his boyfriend <3 <3 <3 <3 so good <3
ayyyy 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬also no lowkey it's not great (even if later consent was asked for but kinda…
spent a bit looking for this but fucking look at this shit https://kisskh.at/profile/Fujobabe19/review/219865#comment-10594313 like it BOGGLES my mind people think this way fucking hell so repulsive. this was 4 months ago but the comment is so egregious it stuck with me i'm just in awe idek
hey you! wonderful review too. mte. it's frustrating to hear excuses instead of just liking it withou caveats (which ppl can do!) your point re: the films, EXACTLY how sad is it that those films are directed by men but the majority of viewers are girls and young women who can't put 2 and 2 together. so sick of it
it's called bright star by jane campion! it's about the poet keats and the love of his life~ if you haven't seen it and ever watch it, prepare tissues!!
Right?? I think I agree with everything you said. I saw Santa, and I was like, "what? really??" I honestly think…
ironically, prem has more of a swimmer's body (broad shoulders, slimmer waist) and obviously has been working out. i remember what you're referring to, when he looked suuuuper thin. and yea i remember seeing the same thing you did, even if he didn't necessarily mean it as a pejorative it's a lot of pressure.
i think they'll all be happy and healthy if they're not right now. it's a lot of stress in general and added stress when people have got eyes on you. agreed with both of you that it is really damaging to see esp if you simply don't fit the mold. i really do wonder what fat girls in asia go through lol :( life
i would absolutely do this if a boy tried me
