Yeah, there was that little pause while she was drinking, where something seemed to leak through emotionally—but then she immediately moved on. It was the same when she was about to leave the household after being freed from her servant status.

I didn’t read either moment as, “I’m in love with this guy.” To me, it felt more like a few quiet what ifs running through her mind: This man used to be my fiancé. In another life, things could have been different, but now we’re worlds apart.

And then it’s almost like: Okay, enough of that. Time to move on. 😂 For me, it’s very human for her to have these fleeting thoughts because they were once betrothed to each other. But she’s also a very objective and practical person, so no matter where her thoughts wander for a moment, she always brings herself back to reality.

My empathy is with Jing Qi. He’s a lonely man—he had a failed first marriage, refused to take concubines simply to fill that emptiness, and carried the responsibility of being the man of the household. His heart felt empty for so long, until Lanxiang came into his life.

So naturally, I sympathise more with his character and rooting for him. But at this point, and even after their marriage, Lanxiang still isn’t romantically interested in him. He has a long way to go and will have to work hard to prove himself worthy of her love.

Team dimples for me. I want him to work harder.

ML has a lot of working to do even after marriage….

Well i don’t really wish to see him in idol dramas and be paired Alongside younger actresses.
But i do hope he land better offers .

Apparently, based on my research, Liu Xueyi is considered a mid-tier male lead whose name only really started gaining recognition in his thirties—a true late bloomer. He certainly has the talent, but he hasn’t had much luck with his previous projects. It looks like Against the Current could finally become his first major hit, and honestly, both leads deserve it. I must admit, I initially watched it because Tan Songyun has always been such a consistently strong actress—but now I’ve become a Liu Xueyi fan too! Who else thinks this drama will take his career and popularity to the next level?

I can’t blame the ML. When you meet such a wonderful woman after coming out of a failed marriage—and there’s a handsome scholar next door threatening to become your competition—you have to act fast.

Exactly my thoughts. Seung-won’s character was painfully underdeveloped, Yoo Seung-ho’s performance never felt like a cameo—it belonged in a fully developed main-villain arc.

agree. Being a good actor is not enough… your co actors must be equally good to bounce off each other’s energy. I have not watched other liu xue yi dramas but when i read about this pairing with tang song yun, i already have a feeling it’s going to click.
