Su zixuan is the daughter of Sushun who is a real historical figure, a distant relative of Imperial Clan of Qing Dynasty and was a powerful Minister in Xianfang Emperor's Reign. In the current timeline of the drama,which is soon after xianfang's death, sushun was part of the 8-member regency Council. On his deathbed, Xianfeng summoned his supporter govt. officials including sushan and gave an imperial edict to create a 8 men regency to rule Qing Dynasty (as his son,the crown Prince was still a child). However, the imperial seal was under 2 Empress dowagers,cixi and ci'an (the regency could not carry out any important policy decisions without this dowager's seal)...So for now,sushun is an important govt official of Imperial court of Qing Dynasty, so su zixuan is a respected Nobel lady for now (they don't know her identity as rebel)

Later after some months, Cixi,Ci'an and prince gong staged a coup, establishing themselves as the only rightful regents of the child Emperor and sushun was beheaded in public (all 8 were punished)

yes, General Li and Bai yimei arc is indeed from Novel. Bai yimei was captured by gangs and rescued by General chen yucheng (Li cheng in the drama). this general never violated her reputation in any way and proposed marriage to her formally. Bai yimei had no choice but to marry him bcz as she stayed in rebel camp,she was considered to be Associated with rebels so going back home meant to be captured by Qing army and associating her father as traitor as well. Gu Pingyuan accidentally found her on wedding caravan in novel,and went to the General's mansion to take her out. General said he would never force her to anything and She's free to go with GPY, but she insisted staying married to the General and told GPY to go back home. GPY & yimei Were childhood sweethearts before GPY's examination and exile.

interesting fact, GPY did went back home after that and he was sad and upset bcz of yimei but in the night,his mother came to him and said she has found a thumb Ring in his clothes, asked him whom did it belong to.It was Chang yu'er's ring which was with him.Then the novel clearly says, this ring has made him forget the Jade hairpin (jade hairpin of bai yimei That he had with him all along for 5/6 years since he was exiled, it was his most important possession in his exiled years)... the novel line was something like "Suddenly seeing Chang Yu’er’s emerald thumb ring, he was startled. A little bit history here, Li cheng in the drama is chen yucheng in original novel from Where this drama is adapted. Chen yucheng is a real figure in history who was a General of Taiping rebel Army,later given the title 'Prince Ying' /Brave King .Taiping rebels actually seized almost all parts of southern china and founded a Kingdom there,named Taiping heavenly Kingdom, which was out of the rule of Qing Dynasty, and Qing Army repeatedly attacked south to capture rebels which is what You're seeing a bit of in the drama.The drama takes place in the late Qing Dynasty, 1860 onwards...(In ep 11/12 it was stated Emperor Xianfang died, he died in 1861 in real history)...Qing Dynasty lasted from 1644-1912 but it was a foreign led Dynasty for china ruled by Manchu people from Manchuria (Northeast Asia) . There were a bunch of rebellions going on in the time when this drama is set ,Taiping rebellion, Nian rebellion, panthay rebellion, Dungeon revolt etc. it was a tough time of wars.

It's Zhu ya wen as Li cheng who married yimei.

Liu han yang is for another character Lieutenant Li cheng, the character name is the same so you got confused.

It surely will..That's one of the most important parts of the novel..Li wantang actually had a strong emotional backstory behind it that NO ONE knew except him..In his final meeting with GPY,he told him that Story, GPY was moved and almost with tears bcz of that...I think the only thing drama Won't follow the novel is Li Qin's characterization. He's FAR worse in novel and did so much bad things to Gu & chang Family, including chang yu'er.

Li wantang is actually Gu Wanzhang. He is Gu pingyuan's father. He left his wife and 3 kids 20 years ago and got married to Li family and Changed his surname and later had Li Qin with Mrs. Li. He wrote a divorce letter to Mrs. Gu before marrying into Li family, but Mrs. Li's father confiscated the letter so it never reached to Gu family village. Mrs. Li sabotaged his exam so that Gu pingyuan Won't be a scholar and become powerful, also to bury this 'secret' forever

He was called 'heavenly king' in real history by his followers and Nanjing of southern china, the capital of Taiping rebels was named "Heavenly capital" of "Heavenly kingdom of peace" by them. Hong xiuquan failed in the imperial examination for 3 times then started a rebellion saying he had envisioned that he's the brother of jesus lol

In the novel gu ping yuan is 23 years old when he escaped from exile...it was noted he passed county level examination at the age of 14 and became a Xiucai (秀才), then passed provincial examination at 17 and became Juren (舉人) /scholar, then went to take the imperial examination barely before turning 18 and then exiled for 10 years. in the fifth year of exile he escaped.

Can't believe there used to be some people who said yibo had stiff same expression all throughout the drama so he lacks acting Skills too much but really, those people need to read the book,this is the cold calm expressionless model cultivator Han guang jun from mdzs! No one Could portray him better than he did,just like no one could give life to the character wei wuxian better than xiao zhan! honestly,6 years later,but watching this drama Felt like each and Every actors and actresses were born to do their roles, such a perfect casting combination FULL OF LIFE. It's totally visible how they were mostly rookie actors, with real talent,put their heart and souls to their characters to bring out the best outcome.CQL is CQL for a reason. after finishing 40 episodes, I'm so reluctant to let them go.This series really felt like how wang yibo described it as "True feelings".yes it really is.

I'm now watching Xiao Xinchen- Song Lan arc (i knew they'll appear in later episodes by how they introduced their story and Friendship in earlier episodes with much depth) i feel so sorry for them 😢 xue yang is soo evil and ruthless, i hate him to the core.

Xue yang did have the 4th piece of yin iron all along, (ep 37 conversation between wei wuxian and Xue yang)...the saying goes like this "yin iron is intelligent,suppressed in four directions.All the energy of the four directions belong to xuanwu" So actually yin iron which was pieced in four and placed in four places had It's core yin energy belonging to the xuanwu cave sword,which indeed had the fifth yin iron shard sealed within it.Wei wuxian found the xuanwu cave sword when he slaughtered xuanwu and as the Founder of self-taught brilliant crafty tricks,he made Stygian Tiger Amulet from it (which Could anti the yin iron pieces wen ruohan had in his possession)... wen ruohan's 3 yin iron pieces were indeed destroyed by the clan leaders after the sunshot campaign, this 4th piece of xue yang was with him from the beginning all along (he said it was never placed in the chang clan) i think this explains his previous rudeness towards wen ruohan in earlier episodes, he never submitted into his leadership but always had an upper hand attitude towards him ( he kinda had a 'we are in a deal' attitude with wen ruohan while others worked under him in fear)...

Xue chonghai was the grandmaster of yin iron and xuanwu hundreds of years back, did the show ever mention xue yang as his descendant?bcz that would make perfect sense how only he knew about the last line "All the energy of 4 directions belongs to xuanwu" while none in the cultivation world knew about It's existence (until wei ying accidentally found it and used it to his favour).. xue yang clarified he had the yin iron piece even Before he went to nevernight to work under wen ruohan so he had it in his possession from the beginning, either finding it by accident or being a descendant of xue clan (?).

However, he could only restore half of the tiger tally with his piece of yin iron, forging it by gathering pieces of original stygian tiger mullet that wei wuxian destroyed before he died,but xue yang doesn’t have wei wuxian's talent in craft and cultivation haha he could only make a copy out of it 😅
