similar theme but different premises. this drama will cover the story of a young scholar From a small merchant…
yeah A love never lost's premier was halted and replaced with another drama in july 2022 (as far as i remember, 13 hong in canton wrapped up filming and was in the Review process at that same time and both didn’t get a yes card)...This year i saw the news of ALNL finally getting released, but i later didn’t Watch the drama (for no particular reason, just somehow Didn't happen)... pretty much sure they edited, changed and scrutinized a lot of things to make it air finally... I'm sure in the same way 13 hong has a possibility of getting released one day too,if the Makers are ready to do necessary revisions and editing etc. But as there were a lot of foreign actors in the cast of that drama, i think the foreign premise is too major in that drama, editing might make it lose the core of the plot.Let's see what happens. Let's enjoy this drama now!

Someone on here earlier said they thought Qing Dynasty dramas are banned and got a result of someone saying only…
similar theme but different premises. this drama will cover the story of a young scholar From a small merchant family who becomes a business tycoon after major ups and downs. The synopsis of baike baidu goes like this -

Gu ping yuan (ML) clashes and competes with various merchant groups – Shanxi merchants, Huizhou merchants, Beijing merchants, salt traders, grain-transport guilds, and foreign merchants. With his own strategies, he creates a new commercial empire, and ultimately joins forces with China’s major merchant guilds to "stand against foreign traders", "safeguarding the lifeline of the national economy". It paints a vivid picture of a generation of merchants who served their country through commerce.

Meanwhile 13 Hongs canton drama was based on actual history of the 13 Hongs of Guangzhou, This collective group of merchant houses had friendly trades with British East india company and US (kinda worked as an intermediary in between imperial Dynasty's govt. & western traders)... These merchants were responsible for everything related to foreign trade, including handling all negotiations with Western traders, collecting tariffs for the government, even overseeing the daily lives and living arrangements of the foreigners (For context, Qing Emperors in that time tightly restricted foreign businesses in all areas of China and created a monopoly Using 13 hongs)..That drama also covered the first opium war (Leading to treaty of Nanking which ended the era of Guangzhou merchants , can be a highly sensitive topic for the censor board of China) ...

When there's an actual history as premise, and if you read about everything that was going on at that particular time of history, You'll have multiple viewpoints to look at many specific matters revolving around them, i guess there were issues where these point of views of that drama didn’t match with the point of views of censorship board of china, reason why it never passed NRTA. They don’t allow "historical nihilism", the term they came up with but what is featured under historical nihilism also Isn't upto anyone but only them.

Are you sure you’re not mistaken?🤔 (or somehow misheard ''zewu jun's brother" as ''hanguang jun" maybe? He's supposed to get that title after his sunshot campaign's contributions, both in the novel and the drama (chapter 62, episode 20), wei wuxian first addressed him as that "You're hanguang jun now,i should call you Hanguang jun from now on" after he came back from 3 months burial mounds During sunshot campaign's very ending time.

Yeah, LWJ calling WWX by his full official name is like mom calling you when you did something REALLY bad. You…
Lan er Gongze/2nd young master Lan is the most formal way to address him, it's way more formal than addressing him by his given name Lan wangji, and the most usual way to address him when someone has a very formal relationship with him without any kind of bond or friendship and they're not his family member or not the same age as him (for example, jiang yanli always addressed him as Lan er gongze, never Lan wangji or Lan zhan).. when It's suddenly used by people he's close with, It's used deliberately to draw a clear line, or sometimes simply to 'mock' as a joke.for example, when Lan zhan and jiang cheng caught/met wei wuxian in that night (of killing wen chao) after his long 3 months of disappearance, Lan zhan was arguing with WWX about him using wicked tricks, WWX addressed him as "Lan wangji" and ''Lan er Gongze" and said "i hope Lan Er Gongze will stay out of our domestic affair of jiang clan" he said that to draw a clear boundary Between them.

Same rule applies for calling someone by his given name despite being close friends or family used to call eo by affectionate courtesy names. It's done when You're angry at that person or pissed off, want to draw a line or when You're in a formal meeting/setting where you don't wanna disclose your actual intimate relationship publicly, so you'd rather address him with his given name.

Another thing is, Directly addressing someone as his given name or courtesy name and using it while talking to a third person with close relationship is different too (the later is the norm). About you mentioning jiang cheng calling him "Lan Wangji" is extremely rare (I'm upto ep 32,as of now)... Jiang cheng always addresses him as "Lan Er Gongze", only using Lan wangji when he's speaking with Wei wuxian and Jiang yanli privately, where he's using it as third person, not addressing him.

on ep 3, when they first got into gusu school to take classes, there's a scene at night Between lan xichen and lan wangji where LXC says "ever since our father's death, you’ve become more and more prudent"... and as Lan qiren was just a de facto leader as the elder /master, he was never actually the sect leader, so i think if we take only the drama's premise, LXC is the sect leader From drama's very starting period.

I just realized Lan Zhan calls him "Wei Wu Xian" only when he's so pi$$ed off. Otherwise he only addresses…
Not all cultivators have tittles by the way, only the respectable ones.for example, Lan xichen was the clan leader of Gusu Lan clan since very young age (when they were teenagers having classes in gusu,he was already the sect. leader of gusu), all the "clan leaders" have respectable titles, so i guess Lan xichen got his title "zewu jun" when he became the sect. leader at young age,but it wasn’t deliberately mentioned exactly when he got it.same way for Nie mingjue having "chifeng zun" as his established respected title as the leader of qinghe Nie clan.

Lan wangji got his respectable Title "Hanguang jun" after sunshot campaign, due to his contributions in the sunshot campaign. That's how Jin Guangyao got his title "Lianfang zun" too due to his "contribution" in the campaign lol.

oh you're right! i somehow missed the part where all the others "followed" wen ning and wen qing..as the camera only focused on those two on the dias, i missed the people behind, just rewatched the scene and yeah the other wen clan members all followed them from burial mounds (but why do they look like they're possessed lol)...my mistake then...but That just made me even sadder than before....
