I've vacillated between hating the Emperor's behaviour and empathising with him most of the time in this drama. But tonight, he was the sensible one, to explain and talk some sense into Hai Shi. Both Hai Shi and Sifu were too involved with their own emotions to talk it out sensibly, and I am glad the Emperor finally revealed some things to her that hopefully help her understand why Sifu did what he did (even if he's truly hateful to have done it).
Again, I wish Sifu had explained all this to her - the one aspect I hate about this character, that he always presumes to take charge of the decisions surrounding her life and does not respect her to make her own decisions. In a way, it's the parent-child kind of love, not the adult love where they are equals; he takes charge and she is left but to obey.
I am consoled in thinking that Hai Shi never expected a wedding, all she wanted was to be by his side. Now that the dynamics have changed and she is ranked higher than him, she can still be by his side (how ironical that before this she subordinated herself to him but now she can command him to do things as a Consort). Though that comes at a price, she can't come and go as she pleases anymore, and her life has lost certain aspects of freedom - she may have power and riches but she has lost her independence as she is the Emperor's consort. And he is just as determined to protect her, even up till the latest preview in E42.
I didn't rly hate the emperor till now cause I am someone who can empathise with someone's feeling a lot. But…
Don't you think this is typical of c-drama directors, especially serious period dramas? Leaves a bitter after taste but they still do it, maybe the Chinese audience loves it.
I have to tell this - Haishi's teeth are strong as f*
you could probably do the same if u were as mad as her about the whole matter. imagine being played out after your wedding and then given away to ur beau's best friend as his wife. [putting aside the why]
...but damn, is that the cruelest wedding night in c-drama history?
absolutely. @poongs told you fat hopes that they would consummate their marriage. it's how directors would purposely play us audiences out just to up the angst.
Is it just me or does anyone else also thinks that yang mi as a teenager is way too much. She clearly looks too…
well, this is a common argument. Do u get the same actress to portray a younger version or use a different actress? This ain't the first time and it certainly won't be the last time that there is this dilemma. Both have their pros and cons....I think what shapes our perspectives are the dramas that we've watched. For me, Yang Mi's strength is playing the standoffish, arrogant look, bodes well when cross dressing is required. So, getting her to act coquetish may not fit her on-screen brand, but I think we can live with it.
He is following Cupid youdu advice 😂😂😂… who know where we end without mvp Cupid 😂😂😂
LOL, poor Youdu, I hope we get to see him at least one more time before the show ends. Does he go and bring her a sabre like he said he was gonna look for one? That would be cool, and she would use it in the upcoming battle. There was a YTber who predicted that she would ask the Emperor's permission to go to war...which is likely with the Huku tribe and Prince Chang joining hands to overthrow the Emperor.
same, though I am looking forward to the scene where the Emperor gets bitten. Must be a first for him! And Sifu…
Hai Shi bites him out of frustration. I doubt it's self defense, unless she thinks he's coming to bed her. It's in the preview, she takes a knife to fend him off, but it appears as if she's just venting out on him too. of course, the Emperor's skills are pretty good and he disarms her. He's not one to back down when attacked, and he uses his arm to hold her down and she bites him.
EP 34 confession is one of my favorite episodes for our OTP, Shifu really outdid himself by writing a marriage…
my bad, but i liked it even more that she vented her frustration out on him and spoke to him like an equal. How on earth can she be his wife if she's always putting herself in a subordinate role? Now if they only hadn't gone and cut that scene and showed me a teeny bit more what happened after that, I would have put that on the must-rewatch-scenes.
looking forward to and dreading ep 35 at the same time ugh
same, though I am looking forward to the scene where the Emperor gets bitten. Must be a first for him! And Sifu getting slapped! Sorry, I'm just empathising with Hai Shi's frustration and sense of being betrayed/ played for as a puppet, with no power to decide on her own future. I know why Sifu does it, but I still can't emotionally accept the pain she's gonna be put thru.
Btw I love how in the proposal scene..FJM went back to his old self and showed all the emotions..We often forget…
You know the scene where Sifu calls the Emperor 'Ah Xu', that felt surreal. It was like a step back in time, no hierarchy, sitting on the floor together, letting their guards down. Genuine happiness felt for each other, like young men, in love, no worries about politics and the like.
Im excited for the next episode. I think Master and the Emperor is protecting haishi bec i think lord chang want…
I dunno if it's again pre-planned. Though going by how many schemes the two of them have hatched, it's entirely likely. And I was wondering how for an entire month, while Hai Shi was away, Sifu didn't find out that the physician knew and revealed it to the spy for Lord Chang or that Hai Shi herself was innocent enuf to not realise that one's gender will be revealed when her pulse is taken - that's pretty common knowledge.
I believe you are right, it's not a love triangle. But it will be interesting to see the scene where he gets bitten, lol, for once I pity him, which is few to say, considering how he's been physically and emotionally abusing Ti Lan.
i had that same thought - what rotten luck!tbh, as much as I hate it...The Emperor marrying Hai Shi is one of…
oh, I am all for that direction, though I think it's fat hopes for consummation or even pregnancy. I suspect he will keep her a virgin, typical of how he thinks.
