This is not a perfect drama but it’s definitely one of the best romcom saguek time traveling drama out there! The main hook is definitely the great acting and chemistry between the main leads and the supporting cast. I was not only invested with Cheoljong and So Yong’s love story but also with the subplot’s like Lady Choi and the head chef’s, the bromance between Cheoljong’s friends, even the weird family dynamic of So Yong and her dad. I also liked that instead of giving us an extremely perfect villain, they gave us the most byronic 2nd lead ever in Byeong In, who I must say is probably the smartest tactician out of all the people in the drama. The great cinematography and OST/BG also set the perfect backdrop for the story.

We do have to acknowledge that the story had several plot holes/weaknesses. Like how the “villains” have very flimsy background story and weren’t as scary as you’d expect from the “strongest” faction/family in their time, and how the show’s ending is probably seen by people who tuned in for the BL theme as the producers “chickening out” of giving the BL ending that they (BL fans) expected.

Personally I love the ending and how they settled the entangled lives of Cheoljong, Bong Hwan, & So Yong. That it was more of a character development arc over gender discovery arc. If I could ask for more, I’d request for more So Yong scenes similar to how they treated Tan’er/XiaoTang’s dual soul in one body in The Eternal Love 1.

PS. I really think Shin Hye Sun and Kin Jung Hyun deserve awards for their acting hear. Even a Daesang for SHS because Mr. Queen wouldn’t be Mr. Queen if not for SHS top notch acting.

After binging on Cdramas the whole 2020, Mr. Queen is a breathe of fresh air with its jam packed episodes and short episode count. I didn’t have to fast forward or jump some scenes which I do for Cdramas with average ep count of 36.

The chemistry is not only great for the main leads but for the whole ensemble cast. I think Shin Hye Sun and Kim Jung Hyun are teo of the underrated Korean actors and I’m happy that they are getting the attention they deserve with this drama.

On another note, When I saw KJH in CLOY, I thought he had the best chemistry there with the 2ndFL but his chemistry with SHS just blew that ship out of the water.

There’s a ton. The original Cdrama version of this Go Princess Go. Then other time traveling Cdrama, Fantastic Mrs Right, Love Better than Immortality, The Eternal Love 1 & 2, and for Kdrama Splish Splash Love.

I watched the donghua only aside from this drama and I must say the drama is better than the donghua. There’s like 2 seasons in the donghua/anime where Yu Shi wasn’t included and they had weird skips in the setting that you’ll get confused how they got there. The drama characters are also more multidimensional than the donghua version.

Gong Mu Lie in a snit because Wu Chun forgot about her promise to visit him before he gets strong is so Cute! Dang, they are so adorable together! I’m glad I’m seeing less of STY. Lol. Please iQiyi give use another season of this lovely drama!

I’m at episode 33 but I had to comment here just to gush...

Me too. My average watching rate for a Cdrama is 3 days max marathon. But this drama took 30days to finish just because the scenes in the latter part weren’t as exciting as the first half. By ep 40 we knew what was going to happen but dang everyone even the bad guy took a long cut to get to the end. >.< And after the FL & ML cemented their love the rest of the drama just became too boring. Lol. But pretty good ending though a bit confusing.

If you’re using iQiyi app it’s 55 episodes but if on Kissassian 56 eps. Not sure why but the last episodes are the same.

Haven’t finished watching this waiting for all epa to be Eng subbed in iQiyi. But so true about STY so far. But I guess the screenwriters tried to show as YS and QL on the screen as much as they can without actually going 100% againts the donghua trajectory where STY just stole the whole show. The f***ing original writer should be crucified for actually letting us believe YS was the FL and then doing a switcheroo with STY. Anyway, I’m still loving this drama because of Cheng Xiao, Fan ChengCheng, & the CGI. I really hope there’s a S2. We never know, like Novoland maybe? I just hope friends in the Chinese social media can share any news about S2.

If you watched the Donghua/anime, you’ll love the drama version vs the donghua because in the Donghua QL is a “casanova” with so many female falling head over heels over him and YS actually “disappears” for 1 or 2 seasons because she was pressumed dead or was kidnapped.

The novel on the other hand, I heard, is much more distasteful for me because it actually shows the 2nd FL having QL first instead of YS being with QL. And he’s really shown as a rake/casanova there.

This is actually one of the reasons why I like this drama version because the writers actually tried to get QL and YS to be in the same scene as much as they can storywise and until the end even if, as they say, the end is not that pleasing.

I think the writers tried their best to get the overall concept of the novel/donghua where QL and YS is like the “eternal love”.

After 9 months I am just now discovering the Donghua/Anime of Cinderella Chef on YT. Given that the donghu main leads are younger than the drama leads, I think the actor and actress did well. Dan Ni is more haughty, and feisty than Ye jiayao. But BTH is perfect for Chunyu when cast against Dan Ni.

I heard this was supposed to be a high budget drama with the episode numbers. But with the wacky editing, maybe the budget went to the TF for ZLY and WYB? Lol. For a drama with the 2 of the most marketable Cstars, I hear a lot of viewers were disappointed? They expected more maybe? I tried watching the last episode just to get a feel, but it’s just mainly a Wuxia drama and I couldn’t feel the romance between WYB and ZLY. Maybe as. Mentor/mentee or Junior/Jiejie but not as lovers.

I initially thought The ML, FL, and Esther are from the same agency so Esther is helping to boost the careers of these newbies. But Esther is from Huace, Ye Sheng Jia is from Mountaintop and Yang Zhi Wen is from Tongle so I guess not. Either way maybe Esther just wanted to do something different by being the “villain”? I think she did very well because I hated her nice/evil character until ep 30. Lol.

I’m at ep 24 and I get why people hate the 3rd part of the drama. Everything was ok and then they had to introduce the same irrational solution to an otherwise “easy” problem like what they did in Tang Dynasty tour! Irritating. The difference is there’s less angst here than in TDT and everyone was pretty chill about their stupid plan. Ugh. This drama should only have 12 eps or 24 eps max similar to the other dramas with newbie ML and FL.

Edit: Just play ep 24-28 in 2x speed and the rest of the episodes are great. The ending is also one of the best. Reminds me of Mia in the Donghua My Demon Tyrant and Sweet Baby. I’d rate this an 7.5 for average.

Chemistry between Yang Zhi Wen and Ye Sheng Jia was ok. I’m also surprised by all the skin-ship given that they are newbie leads. But it works. They are also extremely baby faced like they’re teenagers when in fact the ML YSJ is older than Esther Yu by 1 year and the FL YZW is younger by 4 years from Esther. Esther is baby faced but when I saw the three together on screen I always felt like Esther is the ML & FL’s Jiejie/older sis.

I’m curious. Is her interaction there with the ML that bad? I tried watching the first few eps but it was so long and they have very few scenes together at the beginning so I dropped it. Too bad Cheng Xiao’s character seemed to be more bad ass there.

Gao Yu Donghua/anime was supposed to be “good” and like Qin Lie’s and Yushi’s side kick. I guess they gave that role to Yi Yuan?

I haven’t watched Legend of Awakening but I heard Cheng Xiao’s character didn’t end well and a lot of the viewers couldn’t care less what happened to her character. Lol. But here in WOF I’m happy that Yushi is a character you’d actually root for. So happy for Cheng Xiao.

I think at the beginning YS will do everything for QL. But in the latter episodes we got to see her mature and think about her responsibilities. That’s why I love her character because she’s not an obsessed, cray cray girl like STY. I’m sorry STY really irritates me because she gets more time again with QL. But I just convince myself that QL will time and time again shut her down. Lol. Who cares if STY can calm QL down, QL will still go against everyone to protect YS. Fighting Qin Lie and Yushi!

And let’s give YS some time to “mope”. So far she’s been pretty mature in how she coped with partings (w/ dad, ling borough people, etc). And she does have the right because like QL & YS and even the whole continent knows they are meant to be the end game together. Unlike STY who’s all jealous but doesn’t even have the right.

As much as I hate the few romantic scenes between Qin Lie and Yushi, we do have to give him some slack because of the Soul Suppressing orb. I want it to disappear so QL and YS can get on with their love but then again I think it’s the one suppressing QL hot temperament. If he’s already hot headed as QL, you can just imagine how “crazy” he can get given GML thought and power.
