Hahaha. I think I know this much hyped drama that turned out to be a dud. But haven’t watched it yet. XD Also yes there are a lot of dramas with rookie actors that are pretty nice with nice sets like Tang Dynasty tour, The Eternal Love 2 (not 1 coz that one had low budget), Fantastic Mrs. Right.

I’m glad they actually downgraded the power of Red saintess vs the donghua or I’ll have more characters to hate for going beteen Qin Lie and Yu Shi. Lol.

I was right in believing in our bao bei Cheng Xiao. People dissing her in Legend of Awakening but I never lost hope that maybe with the right ML and co-stars, she’ll improve on her acting. Jiayou Cheng Xiao!

Even with my fondness for Cheng Xiao, I was one of the “haters” of the drama when I watched the first episodes. But since I love Cheng Xiao and got to watch the episodes more, I gradually learned to like this drama. I am now eagerly waiting for the next episodes. BTW this is WAY better than Legend of Awakening where Cheng Xiao was also the FL.

I haven’t read the novel but I watched the Donghua. I like the drama more because no. 1, Qin Lie is a loyal, “one woman man” even if he can’t really love Yu Shi yet/fully. :D

Donghua Qin Lie is such a ladies man that I cringe every time a new lady is introduced to have a love line with him.

Actually if you watch the donghua of this, the FL is meant to be very 1D. But in this drama the producers made her multi dimensional. Watch more episodes and maybe you’ll like it. I also didn’t like it in the first 4 episodes but when you binge watch and get the hang of it, you’ll be craving for more episodes. :D

Yes I checked it out almost same team behind the four but what I think Legend of Jinyan lacked vs. TEL 1/2/3 & Love by Hynotic is the screenwriter. LOJ have different screenwriter so the romantic is not as intense as in The Eternal Love and Love by Hypnotic.

I do have a special love for Cheng Xiao which started when I saw her in Idol Olympics. Oooh! I just watched the trailer and yes she actually did pretty well in the scenes. The story is similar to Go Go squid but CX character is more like the gutsy, quirky girl crush vs Yang Zi’s “genius” child-like, cutesy character. I like CX version. And also Xu Kai is there so maybe the secret to CX’s drama is her MLs? She just needs the ML with the right chemistry like here Fan Cheng Cheng and Xu Kai. In Legend of Awakening she had little to no chemistry with the ML.

O.O wow. But the QinLie in the Donghua is not as brazen as the novel QL. As far as I can see he’s got normal reactions to sexy ladies but no romantic/sexual advances in the Donghua.

SOrry wrong choice of word for what drama STY did. More like bumbling attempt to cast love spell on him but backfired. Like in the Blood lake scene in the Donghua. I just used seduced because I dislike her character. XD

In the Donghua, Yushi is basically your stereotypical xianxia/wuxia FL who is cutesy, needs rescuing by ML, clingy to ML. Qin Lie is also very outspoken about his love for Yushi and they are both so open about their relationship. Is this also the same for the novel?

IMHO I prefer the drama version for both character because at least FL here seems like she’s using her brain vs in Donghua where YS kept on getting kidnapped/killed/rescued and all QL do aside from cultivate is rescue YS. Lol.

And also Song Ting Yu in the drama is already unbearable with her attempt at seducing Qin Lie (good thing he’s immune to love spells because of the soul suppressing orb). But in the Donghua STY has the characteristic of the Xie Jing Xuan being girly, seductive, etc like they switched the personalities of the 2 saintess. If STY in drama is the same in Donghua She would be 200x more unbearable.

Speaking of character personalities I’m also curious about that and the relationship between characters...

“the mother of earth and the child of the war of god shouldn’t fall in love...But now you’ve developed feelings for each other. Do you choose to fight each other or forget each other? (Chong Ming asked the original Qin Lie and YS)”

Unless the translator of iQiyi botched the whole episode, I don’t think Mother of Earth = Demon goddess?

They probably rewrite a lot of things like previously mentioned some characters where “combined” and Gao Yu’s character here is so useless vs his charActer in the Anime.

I think the drama is planning to rewrite the story and just use the character names and some scenes. I watched the Spirit Realm anime and it’s similar to your description of the novel and also different in some ways.

In Episode 6 23:58 of the drama, we got a glimpse of their 10,000 past...

I’m glad some people are still rooting for YS no nonsense, straight faced character. Cheng Xiao’s resting bitch face is perfect for the role. Lol. I cringe imagining her acting all cutesy, quirky, and clumsy like your stereotypical wuxia/xianxia FL.. Lol.

With your passionate exchange about the novel, my appreciation for the drama just rose ten fold! With your description of YuShi, I kinda think Cheng Xiao is perfect because she’s not the cutesy clingy type and always has that resting bitch face that I love. But she can also cry at the right moment.

I’m curious about Qin Lie being (surprise) a “womanizer” in the novel. Is that something he developed in the story? Like are we supposed to expect him to be like that? Because if he does in the drama, I might just drop this drama. I hate cheating/womanizer MLs lol.

And who is the end game/ship in the Novel? Please spoil me. XD

But how can this be when in the first few episode, Yushi had a flashback where she saw herself in purple hair being called as the mother (earth) goddess and Qin Lie as the God of War? Thus explaining LYS powers with plants and Qin Lie.

Isn’t Gao Yu the reincarnation of the devil king hence the ring?

Have you read the novel? NOVEL READERS Please spoil me. Lol. I hope Yushi and Qin Lie is the end game/ship.

At ep 7 and I must say the pacing is extremely fast added the fact that I watch it at 1.5x speed and they’ve already battle one big boss and dealt with one political issue. I’m liking Cheng Xiao’s (my bias) role here as a mysterious possible goddess and the fact that Qin Lie’s character can’t love anyone is the perfect excuse why he and Cheng Xiao don’t have much romantic scenes but the chemistry here is still way better than in Legend of Awakening. Fingers crossed for this drama and it’s also shorter so I guess they have a tighter script which can also be the reason why the transitions between scenes are so jarring.

PS. I like Cheng Xiao but with her acting skills I think she made a good decision to accept this role of mysterious, serious, responsible, could be goddess, ML support. It doesn’t require her to act all bubbly and clingy which is the SOP for most Xianxia/Wuxia FL. Foghting CX!

I’m at ep4 and I can understand the low rating. The editing, scriptwriting, and soundtrack is all over the place. I feel bad for the actors and the prod design and costume design team. The scenes could have worked but the bad background music, and sequence give me a headache. Just watching for Cheng Xiao.

I’m at ep 16 and I must say this is a well written drama so far. The FL & ML have a lot of screentime/romantic scenes together every episode (unlike In a Class of her own), The revelation of the FL’s Mary Sue power is more epic (unlike Dance of the Phoenix), and I like how Crystal Yuan portrayed the innocent and naive girl (vs how YangZi portrayed her irritating character in Ashes of Love who’s borderline infantile). Only problem is there’s no 2x on Netflix so can’t cheat the speed.
