I watched this for the 2 main leads because I like them as actors but god damn I would rather slam my big toe…
Your comment was so funny but at the same time i was thoroughly dissuaded from watching it lol. I would rather keep searching for a good show than to later have to choose between stubbing my toe against several corners and finishing it. Haha
The acting done by the actor Choi Min Soo for the character of king Sukjong was pretty darn incredible. I give the show an extra 0.5 over my original 8 simply because the character was just so well done. intimidating, really like a big horrid tiger with 100 eyes and 1000 ears. Impressive stuff!
I tried to start but somehow felt super duper cringe just watching them. Even lost my appetite for the feast i prepared before clicking episode 1. 28 mins in and i can't seem to continue....love both main leads... but till another time i guess or never again...Nevertheless,
I always find these kinds of comments on almost every show with an FL. It is unfortunate that sexism is indeed…
exactly. I also liked the FL in my Sassy girl. She fit into the role of rambunctious very well. People hating the character makes no sense. They should hate the directing and the writers writing these characters instead. It is unfortunate that male leads could be the greatest douchebags ever and still be tolerated, and their actions excused. it sure is a shame. Wishing all the female actresses strength. No profession is easy for women i guess. Women hating women is indeed the saddest of things to behold.
Great stuff. The action scenes are so fluid and very well done. The FL was indeed the embodiment of OP and badassery. Great acting. The two hours went by fast.
Loved all the characters. That is so rare in shows. Loved the FL, loved the ML (in every show lol), loved the SFL and SML. Excellent execution by cast. Loved the platonic friendships too. Good ending. Funny too.
I actually enjoyed the whole thing, excellent acting too. I also loved the ending. It was fitting and made the story interesting even at the end. You keep wondering what next. I will really be up for a season 2. It seriously will be so fun.
It really was a sluggish bore. The whole thing could fit well into a 1hr movie. The remaining 15+ hours were totally needless. I don't think I have ever skipped parts of a show as much as this. Rounded up the show in like an hour. Many needless characters and conversations. This and STIR are both not great. I love the ML but I guess I prefer him in shows like prison playbook, and the FL in shows like familiar wife. The story here just didn't work. I love melancholic stuff but the overall tone of the show and the music was overtly melancholic. Too drowsy and depressing even when nothing depressing is happening. So funny ?
I'm 20 episodes in and I can't stand han ji min's character. She always has a dumb look on her face.
I always find these kinds of comments on almost every show with an FL. It is unfortunate that sexism is indeed so evident even in kdrama fandom. I know that we are all entitled to our own opunions. However, i really have found that 70% of the time, the FL is hated for strange reasons. I rarely see the same types of comments about the male characters. I recently completed Vincenzo. The FL was incredible throughout... However, looking through the comments i was surprised to still find those one or two comments about how they hate the FL, and how she is 'acting stupid', or 'so annoying'...or...etc.. Some other characters were plain stupid as a character trait but this was never pointed out. Sad reality. I feel bad for the actresses in the industry. It seems they can simply never please. Even worse most of the times, the FLs are hated by female viewers. Just funny.
I have been reading reviews on this app for a year now and the amount of negative comments on the actresses versus…
I totally agree with you. I personally will not say i am not also a but guilty of this trope... there indeed are times that quite frankly, the FL is cringey, or has been made too weak and teary or damsel in distress, or abusive, or over the top (which do get on my nerves)... However, when there is an ML that is irritating, domineering, rude, cringey... I also voice it as well. For instance, 8 episodes in to Bridal Mask and i simply cannot like the ML. He is just totally horrid with like zero redeeming factor. Anyway, the constant bashing of female leads (unless she fits one style or type of 'strong' or 'smart' or 'rude and savage'...etc) is truly a testament of the sexism still running rampant in our world. The worst and saddest part is that i have noticed more women bashing and hating on FLs than men. What does that tell us? ...It really is sad.
The sister Solhi is entirely too insufferable. The actual worst thing to see on screen. Difficult to even watch her say her lines lol. I had to skip past most of her scenes especially in the middle episodes. I believe her villainy was overdone as a plot device to move the story along... However, everything else was generally enjoyable. Kuchon and the little kid had my heart. Excellent acting from them and the FL and ML too.
Lee Jae Wook needs more main roles for sure. After watching his role and acting in Extraordinary you, I can say he has the ability to carry out complex roles so well. He will totally fit with a psychopathic character like ML of flower of evil for instance as well. I feel he has that much potential. I am rooting for him!
Somehow found the entire thing so dull. The visuals and cast are good but the entire thing was just too dull. 1 hour episodes felt like 5 hours each. My gosh. Had to skip like 12 episodes worth of it. Love triangles especially between brothers or friends and such is always such a drag to experience unless expertly done. This one was just miserable the whole way.
I totally get where you are coming from. I won't say i totally dislike it but i also do not think it deserves…
oh these are good recommendations. I started 30 but 17 a while back but switched to another show in the middle and forgot to pick it back up. I also watched touch your heart because i just love the FL. I laughed a lot in it lol. I actually really enjoyed the cheesiness. Such great relief from all the super dark stuff i tend to watch. I haven't seen Misaeng. I can't even guess what it is from the name. I should add it to my watch list and try it out. Thanks for the awesome recommendations. So nice that we can share our preferred genres with one another.
About Cdramas, although i understand Mandarin and i love the culture, i somehow do not enjoy their dramas for only one reason. The depth tends to be lacking almost all the time even in sad situations or bubbly situations and story progression. An all round depth in the stories i have come across, and the acting and even the way the episode sounds are recorded i just can't get used to... not sure how to explain it. I tried watching 'well intended love' and some other cdramas for instance because i liked their synopsis and concepts and it just didn't work out. I genuinely tried. I think Chinese anime is still doing better than the dramas are. I could pick up Jdramas faster though jdramas tend to be a tad too raw lol... another funny thing is after watching just anime and kdramas for so long, i can't relate to American shows almost at all anymore lol. Too much nudity and violence and rushing... What do you think of jdramas and western dramas?
let me add you as a friend lol.. our chats are getting super long lol

Reading your response, i realized that you are totally my type of person... well i have watched several really good ones... first recommendation is obviously 'flower of evil', then second is 'the smile has left your eyes'. Also, others like 'come and hug me', and psychopath diary are all really good stuff. These are centered around a character that is a psychopath... Others like 'Memorist' are more fast paced, and another nice one is 'Yong Pal' though it isn't thriller just a fun run action medical. Please recommend me some slice of life dramas too. They make for nice and relaxed watching. You simply aren't scared that anyone will suddenly die lol. I watched 'something in the rain' on netflix sometime back and unfortunately got very bored. It could have worked out well in like 6 episodes not 16...on the other hand i watched 'something about 1%', and 'clean with passion for now' (not sure if they are slice of life) but absolutely loved them!... maybe you get my gage?
