I saw the last episode and 😭. I wish it could have been a happier ending, but it is what it is. I didn’t…
I guess it must have been a part of his divine dragon imbuement, regarding Tianhe and his youthful appearance. Perhaps Tianhe became blind as a divine punishment from that Queen? Seems he was the recipient of both divine blessing and punishment from a Dragon and a Queen?
I really enjoyed this drama.. the final mayb 5 episodes went a bit off the rails due to some subplot they tried…
On the contrary, the final 5 episodes (or rather from episode 28 to the end) was by far the peak of the show for me other than episode 5, which I also enjoyed muchly. I'm catching up with CP6 now. Yeah it ain't as good but I'm only at episode 9 and the battle sequence in that episode was really well executed. For the most part I didn't actually like the battle sequences and effects in CP4 - they lacked a real sense of force and energy and were generally wishy-washy and dubiously directed. But in terms of plot and exposition, I felt CP4 only got better and better as it rattled along to its conclusion.
This is one of those rare dramas where I always watch the opening because the song is so darn good. Same like how I always watched the end sequence for Chinese Paladin 3. CP 1 still has by far the best music, however.
No idea. 😄 i watching 4 and 6 and it is entertaining. This one any good?
Well I enjoyed it, especially a lot of the OST and one of the key friendships. It is more capricious and silly than CP 4 and 6 and the structure and vibe is very different from modern day dramas ( - which I appreciate as a change up, quite frankly). Gotta go with the flow with a series like this because it has an "RPG" format in the sense of diverting often from a sort of "main quest" line with side plots. CP4 and 6 do the same, but to a lesser extent.
I'm sceptical. I guess some will be put off, but the contentious battle will also draw eyes. You could be right though. All I know is that if I were some mod or admin or something I'd find a way to cancel out the effects. Something like, chop off the bottom AND top 10% of voting - to counter zealous fanatics and to remove the vast majority of hater scores... that 5-10% of 1-scores which drag the average down. I don't know if there is a measure like this already in place, but I doubt it? At least not as extreme as chopping off 10% at either end.
I dunno, it's hard. Like you said, MDL is a mess. I don't wanna speak badly because obviously this website is also good and we can talk to each other like this and have a really bustling community and that's great. But in terms of rating dramas and the extremes of love and hate, it's often hard to get a real gauge on how good a drama might be by looking at the scores. Douban is certainly not perfect, but it does provide a range of quality, rather than anything generally scoring between about 7.8 and 9. It's hard to really glean much from such a small range of scoring difference at MDL. It's not like Douban doesn't have haters and fanatics, but the voters there are far more willing to give less than perfect scores and for the most part don't review bomb a drama.
Being haters is their side hustle. Their real job is fortune tellers so they already know what happens in future…
Yeh I've seen it too. These new accounts cropping up just to peepee all over an actor or a drama. That's why they seem like paid actors.
Really well said in about the toxic fan guards too. I really respect your outlook.
It's very hard for me to understand such behaviour TBH... to go to such lengths to essentially try to force a view, not just state a view but to barbarically force a narrative, to try to game the narrative, almost as though this were politics with all sorts of one-upmanship tricks and tactics. I guess entertainment is politics these days. It's really silly.
It's hard to make these side plots hit hard... many viewers probably just want stories to move along with the leads, but for me this was really well done and very interesting. It also helped that there were still big stakes for the mains anyway which helped with being invested.
If you read your own words you'll see just how problematic this site is then. You're basically saying the following: below 8 is not worth watching, above 8.3-8.5 and I can't even be sure to trust the rating. You're saying that the site produces a range of 0.3-0.5 of legitimacy. That's why I prefer checking Douban ratings. I even prefer IMDB to MDL for ratings.

Agree with you that criticism here often isn't even remotely constructive. A lot of it stinks of paid actors. But then there is almost always a massive contingent that more than balances that out by being fanatics. I'm not even sure the antagonistic publicity is usually a negative in terms of drama engagement...contentious and polarising opinion can just as easily draw viewers in to see what the fuss is about. Ultimately though, I imagine the actual impact is typically negligible. It feels like almost every single xianxia or wuxia I see here has the same sort of wars.

Well of course, I want a world that is biased to the positive over the negative. That goes without saying. It's just a dry explanation for why criticism of zealous positivity is so much more rare than of negativity, because the overwhelming bias is in favour of the positive.
I am not criticising the fact that the general sentiment is always biased in favour of positivity, but merely stating a reality and how that warps judgment. Good on you though for also taking issue with those zealously and immediately awarding productions a 10. I see it rarely.
As for truly hurting people. Honestly, I can't really take seriously the idea that people get bothered over a difference of opinion over something so trivial as how good a drama is, even if the hatred might be overboard. It's just a moment to shrug one's shoulders. The only meaningful issue for me would be if a concerted agenda was so strongly put into action that it grossly affects the success of the product. But even the INSANE review bombing of The Last of Us 2 game back in the day didn't stop the game from being a huge success.
Alright, someone gives a drama 1 or 0 star and says it sucks. And?
I might be the only one here but I'm not liking Mengli's character. She is too stoic and reserved for my taste…
I'm with you. I don't enjoy her general characteristics in terms of affect and vibe. But she has been a useful and important character at least, so she's saved.
I want to share my opinion hereI can't understand one thing why people rate a drama 1, 2, or 3 when they don't…
If people have legit watched episodes then I guess they're as entitled to give it a low rating as ecstatic enthusiasts are entitled to give dramas a 9/10 to 10/10 after a few eps.
I think this has a better story than the other one but it's too early to tell, both are really good show
Right now it's a no contest. In terms of plot and the director's touch, this is better... it holds one's attention. The OST is a bit better (but I prefer the songs from 6 right now) and even the settings are more interestingly depicted. But I'm watching both and don't plan to drop either.
Hmm a bit because he didn't know about the outside world because he always lives in mountain with his father it…
He's getting sharper by the episode. Most of the heroes in CP are naive and silly. The most grown up one appears to be from CP6. CP 1 and especially 3 have immature nutcases for heroes. I'd go as far as to say the ML here is quite intelligent, but just unaware of etiquette and custom and naive in friendships/relationships due to living an exceptionally sheltered life.
