apologies for my profanity but holy shit this is literally GENIUS how did they even think of that π
Right?? It makes so much sense and really added another layer to the decisions they made with this drama. This drama is so suited for people who enjoy analyzing and fine combing all the details.
1) I would agree that SCC had made a huge impression on Tang Qi as an adolescent that he carried with him to the…
Xiao Qing is the white snake's best friend who protected the white snake and was super upset at Xu Xian (ML) since he fell for a trap from a monk that put the white snake in harm's way. The monk later came back and imprisoned the white snake which angered Xiao Qing and she vowed to get revenge on the monk.
Yes! People are saying it is also like people in general admiring what they don't have. TQ is smart but not physically strong so he would be attracted to those who are physically stronger. He also seems like he likes to be "dominated" in the sense that he almost seems to enjoy SCC making him drink that coffee/drink while his hands couldn't move, etc.
WOW, another detail about TQ's tetrachromacy mentioned by Director Chen Yue Jin in his video interview: http://xhslink.com/a/dJ95ywTqTTS7
The typical 3 color cones humans have let us to see red, blue, and green.
It is why SM = red (she dresses mostly in red along with her red lipstick), FJ = blue (she dresses mostly in blue and the string that tangled with TQ was also blue), and QST = green (his tennis outfit). The colors are also associated with the feelings he had for these filters. SM is "hot red" as he was really stubborn like that of a first love while QST is "green" like the color of jealousy/envy.
With tetrachromacy, the 4th color cone is the most sensitive to orange. The "cheng" in SCC's name = orange. TQ's tetrachromacy essentially allowed him to bypass all the "typical 3 colors" and /see/ SCC.
Some more interesting analysis as people are rewatching the drama on C-side, they are saying TQ actually had an interest (or at least noticed) in SCC from the very beginning, but his prejudice got in the way (and it didn't become romantic until later).
1) TQ even remembering SCC when they were just school mates; him labeling her as this "prominent figure" and "sports star" when everyone else at the reunion just remembered her as QSL's sister. On one hand, it is because he thought she bullied him, but on the other hand, it is because she just left that strong of an impression on him that he remembered her even 10+ years later.
2) GY's whole speech about pheromones during the work dinner and TQ's thing is how his senses all recognized SCC as "the one" before his brain did. And TQ unintentionally glancing over at SCC after he mentioned that he wants a love like his parents (only love one person his whole life).
3) The theme of "pride and prejudice" (literally the OST title too) aka TQ being like Mr. Darcy who was interested but continued to deny himself about Elizabeth.
4) TQ dreaming of SCC as Xiao Qing (the green snake) because why is she even in his dream about SM.
5) Him constantly noticing her at work from not being there to hiding around (even though in the beginning he was making snide comments).
6) When TQ said he "absolutely won't like that type" in the earlier episode (SCC in that red dress), the Chinese dialogue is actually βη»δΈε―θ½ζ―εζ¬’ηζ ·εβ. That sentence is missing "I". TQ omitted his own pronoun in it, and he didn't even realize that he never said, "/I/ don't like her type".
7) TQ in general seems attracted to someone physically strong (SM saving a kid, FJ beating up the ex, even the alpaca kicking him, etc.) but because he thought SCC was bullying him back during their school days, it didn't end up romantic during their school days.
Edit to add in something else people noticed too:
8) Back during their school days, when TQ first saw SCC during the dance event (her in that fluorescent dress), the camera showed him smiling faintly at first but as she got closer aka the fluorescent got more obvious, that's when he puked (since he was sensitive to it) + when SCC came at first to give him the walnuts, he didn't leave right away, it was when she crushed it that he ran away thinking she was telling him to go away.
Thank you! Definitely interesting. I didn't pick up on the short drama connection ... but the episodes definitely…
Yup! This drama is definitely unconventional, and the truth is that it is /hard/ for some people to see beyond the surface especially when with idol romance type dramas, you don't want to think too much but this drama makes you think for sure.
I like how he mentioned SM seemed not like SCC at times because SCC was doing things she usually won't do since she knows she has SM's beauty to cover it up. It makes sense why people felt of all the transformations; the first one was the one that didn't seem completely like SCC.
Wow it means the Douban score should be higher than 7.3 then (since the 5th place one is 7.5) but all those intentional…
Right? I know it takes a couple of 5 stars to balance out one singular 1 star. π€
The lowest I did accept for this drama is 3/5. I am just glad people gave this drama a chance and got so attached to it that they did go out of their way to rate it. So many made accounts just for this drama and I know new accounts can't rate 5 stars and only 4 stars max. Hope more and more people will discover it and come to love it too!
Director Chen Yue Jin's interview about this drama if anyone is curious, he goes in depth on some of the decisions they made for this drama and how it came together (pretty interesting read!): https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/PpK72QpoeApYn_ZILffDrg
Filter is one of the Top Chinese TV dramas with the best reviews per 12 March 2023. The list includes dramas with…
Wow it means the Douban score should be higher than 7.3 then (since the 5th place one is 7.5) but all those intentional 1 stars definitely skewed the rating to the lower side of 7+. Still happy it opened up with 7.3 since it just means the good reviews were able to fight off some of those intentional 1 stars.
I'm four episodes in and considering dropping this because, literally, in what world is the main lead not attractive?…
I posted this for a similar ask before and:
I think you can just see her as a "symbol". That she represents typical girls who might even fit the beauty standard in certain ways, but they get compared to other girls who fit the beauty standard even more. There are many people you see and think wow; they are so pretty. But these same people are stuck on their "imperfections", or their "imperfections" get pointed out so often that they can't help but hyperfocus on it.
The "beauties" in this drama (and in a lot of industry like the fashion industry) are tall and slimmer. They have fuller hair, make-up on point 24/7, wear fashionable clothes, etc. SCC gets compared to that type of standard so compared to them, she is not considered "beautiful" (not stylish, not super slim, etc.).
And yes, this drama has great messaging on beauty standard as it progresses because the characters in this drama self-reflect with every arc. It is not the typical "Only the inside counts!" either because that is just not the case with our society.

-Is the ML really a jerk?
-Why does ML like all the transformations but not the FL?
-Why does FL make her transformations *?
I will say it is still nice to see people asking questions haha it means they are curious enough to want an answer and continue watching the drama.

The colors in the picture/portrait TQ drew for SCC started to disappear. π²
