We just watch them from our screens being miles away, reading/seeing their hard work. We know them only as actors and that is it.
They are NOT nobodies. They get paid tons of money -like you said first billing actors-. They don't just start a project cause they feel like it. They have entire teams and contracts behind them and they know that some things may go badly. That aside, even if this flops, they will not be the first nor the last famous actors having terrible dramas. Many first name actors have made some terribly received series and they are still extremely famous and thriving.
I get that he may have gotten treated unfairly -along with CDL-, but one, I don't think anyone can judge that before the actual series gets released, and two I don't get the fanwars nor the attacks against other actors.
Like mentioned, GJM is a very controversial figure in C-entertainment industry. These people are not stupid. They are professionals. They signed a contract to make this series with him, cause in one way or the other they got benefits. If they don't have a problem working with that man, knowing all the risks, why should we?
I get the sentiment and I get the anger. I am not here to fight, I get that you feel wronged, but we are not them. We simply can't know all the details nor how things played out. I think that the only thing we can do is support the drama or just bash it if its bad.
They don't need our protection, they know full well what they are doing, they are not kids and the amount of money they make is something that many people won't even begin to imagine and that is unfortunately one of the reasons why many of these people have very tough times. It is not easy to be famous.
About TJR, I loved him in MJTY, but he is just another -very good imo- actor. If a drama of his sounds interesting I will watch it, if it doesn't, I won't. If it is good, I will praise it, if it is bad, I will just truthfully say that is is awful.
Like every person, I like some actors more than others, but I wouldn't really mind if they didn't get the screetime they 'deserved', cause I am sure that one way or the other, they knew what they were getting into. And I am talking about famous actors like them.
The only people I truly feel bad about are the rookies, the unknown actors and the crews of dramas that many times don't get paid or their scenes don't get added into the drama AT ALL. I care more about a crew member that is working the same hours as these actors and gets paid not even the 5% of what these actors are getting paid.
It is not easy to have a name in any entertainment industry and it is even more difficult in the C-entertainment industry. Actors like these (Neo Hou etc) have entire legal teams behind them. If the contract they signed said anything about script changes they can literally get compensated or even more. If the contract they signed was not very detailed, nor it had any limitations then that's their team's problem. It is awful and unfair, but unfortunately that is how the entertainment industry works and they know about it. These people are professional actors, they get paid tons of money to work. I don't see the reason to fight for a person we don't -and will never- know and I am talking about this specific case, not any crime.
Well, if that is true and he decided to cut off the mains stories/screentime then the series will probably be nonscensical and it will bite him in the ass, so there is no need to worry.
And let's not lie to ourselves, GJM is a VERY controversial figure in C-entertainment industry. His name was not even on MJTY cause the Chinese hate him. Like in every ''cooperation'' things may not go smoothly -or plainly go very badly-. But that is why you simply do not choose to work for a person that has a bad name in the industry. Things can go badly and I am sure their teams/agencies -cause they are the ones deciding most of the times- chose this project probably cause of money and fame and they knew the risks.
Again, not trying to fight. I get that as a fan you are angry. I completely understand it and I would probably be too in your position, but as an outsider that generally don't really pay that much attention to the actors, the result is the most important for me and I can't judge that until I watch it. If GJM was being awful again and the project goes badly, then that's fine. He will get his punishment and simply won't get any more projects -at least with that budget-. But I don't have any of the actual facts and if the actors don't express their concerns etc, I can't be sure they were treated unfairly. And I am sure that no matter what, at least they got paid as per their contract and will make tons of money if the series actually is good.
If someone needs our "protection" then it is mostly people that are not that famous, cause they are the ones eating all the sh!t and they don't have anyone to support them. Many of them don't get paid and I won't even start talking about the crews of the dramas that got cancelled, in which some people never got their salaries.
I think that we can't really judge an entire series from a five minute MV though. That aside, I believe that the actors and their crews that signed the contracts know best. Now, if you are specifically talking about the MV, I get it. As a non fan of any of these people, I honestly didn't even notice, especially since many of them seem to be playing different types of roles.
All of us here are outsiders. Fans or not, we don't know and we can't know the truth unless there is some type of breach of contract. It's is totally understandable to feel angry if you are a fan and expected something completely different, cause that is how it was advertised.
I believe that usually the actors -and their crew, managers etc.- sign a contract if it is beneficial in one way or another. It could be the role, the salary etc. These people are not rookies nor unknown actors. They have an entire team behind them. They are pretty famous and that is why they are advertised, so I don't really find it improbable that they knew what they got themselves into to a certain extent -if that is truly the case in the actual series-. I think only them can judge if their work was truly in vain, but again I get the anger especially if you were anticipating this series having certain expectations.
Usually the actors -and mainly the people working for them- get the script before agreeing to participate in a project or at least have some other advantages (like their salaries). Maybe it was like that from the get go. I mean, no matter how biased GJM is, I don't think it is possible to remove like 90% of the script to fit what he likes and that would probably be against any contract they signed. Most of the actors, especially these actors that are big names and not really unknown, don't really choose projects randomly, they probably knew at least to a certain extent. That aside, I am in no position to judge a 26 episode drama from the five minutes I watched and I see no reason to fight.
I get why many are mad and I understand that many are angry about it if they support these actors works, but it is not really the end of the world and we simply can't know what truly happened or if they really were treated unfairly. Let's not forget, contracts also have a big thing to do with money, and I am sure they got paid for this project.
However, I am not really a big fan of any of the actors. I don't know the majority of them cause I don't watch that many Cdramas. Or more precisely, I have heard of them and know their faces, but I haven't watched them enough (or at all) to judge. I just liked that particular moment in the first trailer that got released ages ago and it was the only gif that looked good as a pp from the ones I found online at the time π
Only thing I can say is that the mv and trailer look great production quality wise and different from many other trailers out there. I don't care about screentime, as long as the drama is entertaining and not boring to watch, cause I simply don't know the actors enough to care π
I do prefer series with no particular main characters though or series that have multiple mains.
Of course I have preferences, but I don't really watch dramas if they don't seem interesting no matter who acts in them -even if it's my fav-. So, yeap, I can't really judge an entire series from a 5 minute music video and if it's bad I will drop it if it's good I will watch it. I can only say it is visually stunning right now. Plot and characters is a future thing to judge and I can only hope the series actually gets to air.
It was obvious GJW was not interested from the get go and she was meddling with his life way too much. Girl was acting like his wife taking care of his mom and doing things behind his back. That's some creepy, hypocritical and toxic behaviour.
I think it is pretty well written mystery wise. Yes many things are predictable etc, but the case itself is quite complicated and it is nice to get new info every ep. I personally think romance would completely ruin it, especially since GJW's life was basically destroyed. It would be plain weird and out of character if he fell in love and we had a romantic story after so many years in prison and in a town where everyone hates him.
I think GJW's and SC's relationship is much more heartwarming and fun to watch, cause what GJW truly needed first and foremost was an ally that would believe him and be there for him.
Did something happen? Is it about the main leads? I mean, I personally don't mind at all as long as the characters and story is good. I'd rather get a story with no particular main characters, it's usually much more entertaining that way. That aside, it looks like some characters are portraying more than one person and it's just an MV like 5 minutes...
Same, I hope it is not simply a coincidence.
I just want everyone to die or go to jail by the end of this and honestly I like how this whole thing is biting them in the ass.
Many things cleared up after this episode, so I don't have much to say, just want to mention some scenes.
1. Su Oh calling Doc a murderer πππ
That scene was amazing.
2. I truly cannot believe how awful everyone is. Not only that bastard killed Bo Yeong, but Byeong Mo's dad thought it was a good idea to go spill the beans about the murder to rescue his son. Like God, they are truly terrible. And then we have Byeong Mo completely forgetting about Bo Yeong when he wore that uniform saying he will be a righteous cop πππ
How about you go π€¬π€¬π€¬
3. The way I want to punch that Kim cop. Like, shut up dude!
4. Na Gyeom is truly getting worse and worse. Girl is a true psycho. Thankfully they explained where she was all this time. She just wanted to clean the blood. And then that incident happened and that girl -mind you a high schooler- cleaned up, took the murder weapon, threatened the doc and even took a freaking video! Like wow. I am impressed. As expected she was threatening the doc, but I am wondering why we didn't see the doc actually killing Da Eun. At this point I doubt he did it.
5. I love how GJW's and SC's relationship evolved. I liked the scene with SC confessing about his past and his feelings etc.
6. And of course! THE ULTIMATE SCENE! Like Bo Yeong's dad was a douche in every way, shape and form, but well done to him for pulling that trigger. I knew he would, but still enjoyed it! Plus, I LOVED the "sorry" to GJW.
Only 3 eps left and I am wondering what will happen now that we know the majority of the truth. Also I am wondering what does Su Oh's drawings hide. Plus, was that mention of the female police officer random or was she the same that looked at SC last episode when he was searching for the car? Wondering...
YES! God, how does he even sleep at night? But then again, the uncle cop probably felt superior in that moment. He was jealous of GJW's family and his dad, cause they were successful and rich, having the perfect son that got admitted in medicine. They were the perfect family. Having a murderer son ruined that image and I am sure he was deeply glad it happened (plus it helped with the promotion he was waiting for all this time).
Thankfully the dad knew something was wrong and that is why he kept the car.
I was mostly angry and wanted to punch him π
Pathetic b@stards and I want them all to burn...
I agree. Honestly, I actually thought NG wouldn't be involved in BY's murder, but in Da Euns. Like you said, she knew about the doc -she is probably the one that is threatening him-. She was super jealous of her and maybe even the only one that knew about the relationship along with perhaps the congresswoman.
She is insane and a psycho. I wouldn't be surprised if it was cause of that. That she did it, cause she thought that in that way GJW would be grateful towards her and end up liking her, since she was the only one that was there for him and believed him when he was in jail. She is obsessed with GJW, she is stalking Ha Seol cause she is jealous and she constantly gets involved in his personal life, playing "wife" when it comes to his mom, paying the bills etc.
