I think I have never been that invested in a bl since my school president, the wait is killing me, but I also love how I get super excited when the day of the new ep approaches!
I am surprised too to be honest.
Yes, your recs have threw me into the rabbit hole way too many times, but I am thankful for that π
About this being 16 eps, I am not sure if it will work and I was and still am a bit wary about it, but so far (more than halfway through) this is going very well and much better than I even anticipated, so I am optimistic.
Same, we needed our time π
I agree. I think it wasn't just guilt. He just couldn't admit to himself that he wasn't there for her when he needed her in comparison with ZL that did everything to help her, putting himself in extreme danger and ''ruining'' his future, something that he was not brave enough to do.
Fang Lu abandoned the person he supposedly loved, he never came back for her, he cut all ties with her, but at the same time he never got over her. He hated himself for all these and called that hatred ''justice''. He thought that by trying to put her in jail, along with the person he was jealous of (ZL), he would feel redeemed for his actions and he would ''punish'' the person that loved her. At some point, it felt like true hatred towards ZL. By making him betray her, he would prove to himself that ZL was like himself, not good enough and not there when she needed him the most. He couldn't accept that someone loved her so much he would her first at all costs.
That, imo, explains all his actions, expect that crying scene that felt like an unsuccessful ''we want you to feel bad for him'' moment. Maybe if it was something that it was hinted at in the previous episodes it would be fine and would even add more layers to his character, but it was way too sudden. It felt like a cheap last attempt to make the viewers pity him just cause he was a police officer and he ''had to do the right thing''. Problem is, it had the opposite result.
I agree about FL. I can't believe how he managed to get so annoying in the second half of the drama and especially the last few eps. I actually felt like they ruined his character with that ''crying scene''. I hated him, but he was also pretty well written as a flawed and realistic person that put his ego and pride above everything and couldn't accept as you said, that he was never there for Nan Ya. But the fact they decided to actually make us hear his tearjerking story ended up making me hate him even more for basically dooming a woman that could be his mom. It was even worse, cause I felt like they wanted us to feel sad about him, but I just wanted to throw him into the water...
That's an interesting perspective. I wouldn't say his future is ruined either, but not for the reason you mention. I feel like the future he chose was the one that made him feel more content with his life. I do believe he would have a ''bright future'' and a successful career, if things were different. He is definitely not a person that can easily be convinced to do things he disagrees with, but at the same time many ''bright minds'' are not exactly the easiest people to get along with nor are they people that always follow what others say and the norm.
Korea may be advanced in some things, but they are also very conservative in others...
Plus, most of China's big ''successes'' are historical/"fantasy" (wuxia specifically), something that is barely a genre in Korea. Ngl, I definitely prefer them, stories wise are much better and so are the characters, but I wouldn't say that the Korean ones aren't successful only because they are conservative in Korea (danmei adaptations have many haters in China too - plus funnily enough there are many people that have stated they would never watch them if they were uncensored), but it is a genre that hasn't developed that much with Semantic Error probably being the most popular one. But, still, there are some pretty good ones out there. I just feel like they started quite differently for many reasons.
That aside, there have been at least a few gay characters in their series the past few years. Plus, there is also Love in the Big City, that hopefully will air soon. I think, if they had a big financial success like the Untamed, things would be very different now and if China didn't release the Untamed they wouldn't make many other adaptations.
I wouldn't mind that much if it is censored (be it bromance or we can tell it was supposed to be a romance). However, I feel like they may change the entire story adding things (like a love line that didn't exist) just because they don't want to be faithful to the material at all. I mean, they tend to ruin the source material generally, here it could be even worse...
It is not the first censored adaptation and I am honestly wondering why they keep doing this...
I get that this may financially benefit them more, but I don't understand why they chose to change this element of the story when they could be just making a series out of another novel/webtoon (and when there is no ban of portraying same sex relationships on TV like in China)
I have very low hopes. I am wondering if it will even have any bromance moments or they will just add an unnecessary love line...
I was cursing at Fei Ke most of the series and then he was holding those flowers in episode 7, girl didn't want to meet him and I was like "Girl, that man is hot, get down there!"
Edit: According to another user, they changed the schedule and next ep is tomorrow π±
