I’m probably in the super minority but I love the whole Bao Yi Fan and Andy storyline, only reason I watched S2 right up to the end. Truly think they are a perfect complement to one another, both equally strange and that’s why it works… and damns man, Yang Shuo and Liu Tao’s chemistry is just crazy.

BYF is just ultra charming, very eccentric, playful, immature and it’s realistic, I’ve met a few ultra wealthy second generations from Mainland that really remind me of him, with dysfunctional families, similar vibe. And for similar reasons I also love the Qu Xiao Xiao character, very attractive and equally sucha bitch. 😜 but in a way she is super mature for her age…

And Andy, also a flawed character, although more fictional, drama-centric esp with the whole family background thing, might not exist in real life. But it’s also because of this, and maybe because Liu Tao is just too natural in this role. Can’t help but get drawn to her, I’m a sucker for weird, ultra capable and attractive women…. 🤣🤣🤣

P.S: Sighs, my poor Lao Tan, my heart breaks for him…. Wished he pursued her…. Sighs. Instead of just being passive….

It ended abruptly and I was dying for Season 4. There isn’t one. Loved these characters so much, too.
Haha, same!! Wish there was a S4. I went online to find for hints on what was intended for S4. Found some tiny clues from wot the screenwriter said during interviews…

But she also exactly falls within the nurture debate….. part of the reason she turned out differently is also related to her upbringing, her upbringing is basically the opposite of her brothers…. And why she also finds it difficult to break free. Her craving for success, understanding the importance of money, maturity etc etc. these are all necessity otherwise a young kid won’t be able to survive in that kinda environment. The values, advice, education, lessons, treatment she was given is basically opposite of her brothers…. They grew up in the same house, but defo not in the same environment…

It’s never easy to break free from cycles…. Whatever kinda cycle it may be. Domestic abuse, kid-parent, cults etc.

Nope, defo the entire thing which made me furious was the father. I was totally hoping he would come around… Parents aren’t perfect, they can’t be, because they are only human. I get that. BUT they set the tone in the family. They are the start, the beginning. He chose to marry the wife, they chose to have kids, they even decide the number of kids they have….. basically they set the tone for everything……. I mean, this whole I’m getting old now nonsense is just….. a tad ridiculous. The father is like some Mr.King of Excuses man…. Like lol. I don’t even know how he managed to pull through his entire life, it’s almost like he’s living in a daze and dragging everyone to hell with him….

The physical assault thing is just…… wth man… hence can you imagine when I was watching the TV series, wondering how all these things are going to wrap up…. Like the last few episodes were so anti-climatic and so “?!?!?” And the most amazing and crazy thing is like even as adults, all of them just watch these happen and ALLOW this to happen, like it’s drinking a cup of water….. you know throughout watching the entire TV series, because it was so realistic I often wondered about the author. I always wondered if it is a semi-autobiography of the author….. Honestly if it was me, I won’t even bother to argue with them etc. I honestly will just walk myself into the police station and report it everytime it happens. But I also know that it’s a fact in Mainland, most of these kinda familial relationship dispute is not taken seriously unless it breaks a criminal law, unfortunately most of the time it is classified as a civil case.

I don’t really agree on the old age thing though, I don’t think all is forgiven just because one is a parent or one is old/ill….

Yeap, brothers are adults now, but the father is even more of an adult. In fact he should be the wisest one. But everything that happens is seen as a norm in their family. So actually if you think about it, even the FL is also an adult hence why I don’t think the TV series ending makes sense or at least that is the bit whereby it deviates from reality which was kinda disappointing… everyone is free to make free choices at that point of their life.

I felt the novel maintained the realism right up to the end, without being too extreme. I also believe to completely change something or someone perceived as a ‘norm’ is difficult/unrealistic, hence the “nature vs. nurture” argument in psychology… Somethings which are imprinted during a person’s upbringing is just as significant/fixed as something biologically imprinted.

But to be fair, I think the things depicted in this drama is related to a general consensus in Mainland…. It’s more of Confucianism deeply rooted in their society and country (inc their legal system actually), it is also the case in S.Korea, but S.Korea is more balanced I think and it looks like things are also changing because I saw they changed their legal system regarding default inheritance…

Actually I think the father is the one most at fault because you lead by example…. And that is how kids grow up, they learn from actions people around them…. Thus all the brothers are just mimicking their father because it was never labelled as wrong….. it is their upbringing…

Honestly I don’t remember the exacts… BUT I remembered it was completely different from the TV series. Which made me let out a sigh of relief… So there was no reconciliation at the end, if I remembered correctly…. She drifted away from her family… then they kinda left it as an open ending. Like she continued her life with minimal contact and I remembered the relationship with her mentor was also fine….

Anyways don’t quote me on this because it has been a while…. 🤣🤣

The Mist korean version?
Doesn’t look like it based on the 2 trailers… it’s more action, not so much thriller and horror.

都挺好 by 阿耐

I don’t think it’s translated into English though…. I think I was too pissed at the ending and I ended up Google-translating the ending of the book.

is there new upcoming drama 'the glory's ?
Oh wow. The trailer is amazing…. I’m kinda neutral towards the actress who plays the FL but she was pretty amazing in the trailer. And has a natural chemistry with the ML….

Thx for sharing.

I love this drama but I swear that guqin battle was so freaking hard to watch when they pulled out those cgi scenes…
Haha, I actually thought so too! I was kinda at awe with the first one, the butterflies and cranes….. it was a pretty creative idea coz it is still kinda borderline feasible in reality……. But when the 2nd one appeared I was like why on Earth did they do this… uh………. like her avatar and some CGI monster…… I’m like…… 😳😳🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ and how is it possible that everyone could see that…………………….

They probably should have changed it and went for the weather…. It started off as that….. like the wind, leaves, so they should have continued changing the weather and maybe flowers, trees blooming, dying instead………

Yeap. I’m pretty sure. YMY is played by a different younger actor, coz the role itself was a younger character. He had quite a significant part in the earlier episodes in the Ye family arc….. I wouldn’t have noticed it if it wasn’t for the Jiang vs Ye last name, I’m really bad with names…. Coz whilst reading it, it came off as kinda odd. Like a Ye dude expelled from a Jiang family, that’s basically impossible…

He got expelled from Jiang family right? So he has to be from the Jiang family, i.e with the last name of Jiang, can’t be someone with the Ye surname… if you go back to the last episode, only 2 sons left (as opposed to 3) in the carriages for Yongzhou.. Basically the one that got expelled was the father of Jiang Yu’E…

think there was an error in the subtitles to begin with because both are named “3rd uncle” in Mandarin… only difference is one of them is her maternal 3rd uncle and the other is her paternal 3rd uncle… but when the subtitles translate it they just use actual names…. And there was an error there….
