Probably just me, but I think her chemistry with Wallace Huo is the weakest….. or at least that arc is the weakest when it was meant to have a profound impact on her life…. i.e her soulmate….
It almost makes me think that the plot/screenwriter is insinuating that a “soulmate” is when love is forever lost……? Or like it is so fleeting and short that there are only good memories, a “limited-edition” love, it is not exhausted by the in-and-outs of life/living together/marriage. Yet, I didn’t think her arc with Wallace Huo was that passionate, intense, compatible or one-of-a-kind…. The whole arc didn’t feel as natural as other arcs, and the one thing I really liked about this drama is the realistic screenplay, or the novel (which I’ve not read)…. BUT to be very fair, every person’s definition of soulmate varies, just like how people view marriage…
It might also be due to the contrast with Lin Geng Xin’s arc, the natural chemistry aside, but this arc was verryyyyy long, unlike Wallace Huo’s arc.
I was only irked by that, everything else was really good. I too rated it somewhere in between 8 to 8.5. If it wasn’t because of the Wallace Huo arc, I would have rated this a 9, it’s a very solid production, cohesive cast, amongst other great bits (i.e intense passion and chemistry with Peng Guang Yin)…
P.S: I’ve always wanted an elder brother, totally envious of Rose’s cute, close and realistic sibling relationship….
Wow, all the FLs in his upcoming dramas are like really pretty and not to mention good actresses with the exception of Song Yi for me, totally neutral towards her….
The feeling you get after completing it is just……. Ugghhhhh….. annoyed, frustrated and totally not satisfying…. But I think most people complete it just because it’s an easy, no-brainer watch… and the pairing between ML and FL… the curiosity, coz the ML has been in a lot of high budget works, highly promoted…. And he just has a natural screen presence….
And honestly if I had a father like this one, I might have just strangled him… I mean, this is like horrible, he didn’t even get any confrontation, no showdown, like everyone just let him be, I mean, why does he deserve to have a happy ending……….? 🤦🏻♀️
Had high hopes for this drama in the first few episodes…. Ended up with a big disappointment…
Honestly I am team Yan Lin. Zhang Zhe is too moody, he looks depressed half of the time. ML Xie Wei too aggressive…
I thought the same too….. I think it’s partially because in reality, in the current modern day world…. most females would have fallen in love with a real life Yan Lin (given such a good guy exist 🤣🤣)
The ML is really a proper class A ultra realistic jerk….. super scary! Also disturbing how it could just really happen in real life….. such a realistic modern day character… reminds me of a few men/guys I know in real life….
I can understand why some people find the FL annoying…… lol, she is kinda…. Naive in an annoying way… I spse it makes sense because apparently Puyi is also the same…. But in modern times now, it just makes that person very annoying because they always make ridiculous decisions….
I mean, I can understand the whole independence and strong woman kind of theme, it’s great…. But then she just becomes this really annoying person when she’s with the ML…? And she’s like a saint towards everyone else….
They changed the original tone of the novel…. including parts of the plot…… and of course the ending…. Think I prefer the TV series better, the original novel was too dark, personal, extreme, cynical and just unsettling….. but it was so well written that it really makes one question the notion of marriage……

Lucky him… hope they all turn out to be big hits…

This is such an emotional tv series, in a very relatable way….
Just some of the places they shot at makes you think they shot it outside of China….
