This storyline is literally about grade school boys. Nor is any of the source material mature/explicit. I think it's great that they got actors that more align with the ages of the characters. It gives them opportunities moving forward - just as the original did for that cast, several of whom are still in the industry now.
I didnt find it that bad at all. The acting isnt the best, especially with the support characters (2 of the antagonists are way too cartoonish), but definitely not the worst out there. B Mine also is really good at that in love look/stare. Near seems to have improved since Lucky My Love as well, even though this is a pretty different role for her. Though based on the moments when her character is alone, maybe the characters arent tooo different? But this might be a character inconsistency - too early to say imo.
Storywise, looking forward to Rain mellowing out (and I appreciate that we got some of her backstory already as to why she’s got so many walls up), the gossipmongers crashing and burning, and Deane softening up to the prospect of love.
I appreciate and agree with the distinction, though it should also be said that for many “BL” just means a…
Exactly.
I'd also like to point out that the line between LGBTQ/Queer media and BL media is getting increasingly fuzzy as more and more real stories and queer actors /crew/creators get in the industry. And while some countries have historically made the distinction between the two, other countries have not.
I think it's important to keep an awareness of history of the terms and industry, but also to understand that terms have always and will continue to evolve (even "BL" is an evolution of other previous terms) and that people are coming into these stories with different lens from all over the world.
I would absolutely read Amm from Friend Zone as an asexual lesbian who struggles with comphet and amatonormativity…
Ah, gotcha gotcha. Yea, i think i came across that commentary before. But i tend to take it with a grain of salt. Not many people understand just how much asexuals fake being allo. And it's not like there's "checking out someone else" to help people catch on to the lie. Most of the asexual signs get read as being nervous.
Also, this show is literally about grade school students. So was the original. This isnt a mature BL. So it doesnt need an 18+ cast. O.o
Will premiere episodes 1-2 at a film festival in October.
Series will stream in 2025.

For instance, current popular use of the two terms more seems to align with this explanation to the difference: https://kisskh.at/758821-love-in-the-big-city#comment-17707557
