There's such a thing as limited demand and I think it's hurting the series. When GMMTV released three BLs almost simultaneously, of course (or Off course), one of them was gonna be hurt, and of course it's the lighter, more modest one. The Last twilight is the appealing melodrama, Cherry Magic is the glossier, long-awaited remake of a Japanese hit, and then there's Cooking Crush .
It's a pity people have not been drawn to this one (at least I think they are not based on YouTube views). It's the classic BL story of food and romance but the comedy, sometimes bawdy sometimes deadpan, is genuinely funny. Gun as the straight guy and Off as the funny one are still nailing it. The supporting characters are also a blast. There hasn't been a single episode in which I did not laugh at least once. And the pace is fine. This recipe deserved more love.
The Khun Yai at the end is the reincarnation of a descendant of Khun Lek so he comes from the modern era, his…
Thank you for the explanation but couldn’t they make it clearer in that final scene! But the trailer for the Special Episode got me even more confused. From what I got, Khun Yai traveled from the past (and from Chang Mai) to modern Bangkok. So is he a ghost, a reincarnation or what?
Boeing is the single best thing that could happen to the series in its final stretch, when everything is getting a bit dull. He is hot and he knows it, he is proud of his glasses unlike Mew, and he looks like he wants to eat every guy in this series for dinner.
Teenage boys according to Thai BLs: once they start dating, they're stripped off of all their testosterone supply and start acting like 50-year-old prudes.
Couldn’t they just make a nice last chapter? No! They had to forget episode 11 ever happened, that Joke’s parents went to his place, left a nice meal for him on the table WITH A NOTE, and sent a video showing how proud they were of his win. And then we have all that nonsense in episode 12, even a boo-hoo trauma from the past and Joke’s dad asking about some national championship his son had won. And the Zo bit in the beginning…
Then Joke magically forgets he’s afraid of heights in the last scene. Dude….
I’m so happy this is over.
Trivia: One of the screenwriters has a cameo as a customer at Trin’s bar in this episode. As unbelievable as it might sound, these are the same writers behind I Feel You Linger in the Air, which is everything this series isn’t (Do watch the uncut version if you can.). I assume the source material here was not good to start with.
My only quibble is the lighting. I got it that the cinematographer wanted to create a contrast with the present-day scenes but sometimes interior scenes are so bright and flat you could mistake night for day. The cute final scenes of this episode, for example, deserved more subtlety and shadows.
