If you knew how much the Chinese audience actively cussed out Xie Ze for this decision⊠I really donât understand…
Tbh, the problem with her acting in the beginning, it had her playing Jiman as a silly white sweet when sheâs a royal sister type. Add to this Xie Zeâs inability to shoot her and the dubbing that is sometimes too cartoonish, and the performance feels off. Xiao Ran corrects for this quite quickly though and then itâs not a problem for most of the show. The director⊠I really donât understand what showrunners were thinking. The performance is Grad level and the shooting is kindergarten tricks. Iâve heard these shots are done on purpose to cause controversy but honestly why ruin such a good scene? There are plenty of other shots they could have used.
On episode 16: I really hate the SFL. I hate the way sheâs written too, so one dimensionally evil without any…
Sheâs pretty much that way in the book though, and I dare say worse because more time is spent with her but sheâs really a very petty character. The drama actually makes her a bit more interesting and a bit plumper than her original ending/setting. Through her, viewers are actually supposed to see how Nie Sangyu progressed into madness, and thus feel less sorry for her because itâs the same path and actions.
Depends on what youâre looking for. Itâs a character driven romantic comedy about a young couple thatâs light on the plot but itâs good for bingeing and easy watching. The actors support most of the show but do a decent job though some viewers donât like an opinionated FML. Just donât go in looking for a profound story, elaborate costumes, or a hot and steamy romance.
Was this drama ever released with Subtitles? I would love to watch it but somehow canât find it?
No, I donât ever think it will get subtitles unless there is some massive drive. It was on YouTube but the channel wasnât able to release an English version and the show was mostly region locked to China. Itâs a shame though because it was good for a tribute drama. I liked the first pair so much that I still secretly hope for a 2nd match.
Been a minute since a FL made me fangirl like this! She's everything you want in a FL.
I wish there were more big heroine roles like JJL. I donât even mind the Mary-Sue aspects. The scene when she has the face-off with Ning Yunzhaoâs mom is so cool to me and honestly gave me goosebumps the first time I watched it.
Sad ending? No. This is the best satisfying ending i have ever seen.Li cheng yi deserve this. For the first time…
There really isnât any other kind of ending for this story which is why I think itâs such a brilliant tragedy. They cut off all avenues so it was the best end for this pair and I have never felt such an awful mix of grief and relief in my life or with any other drama since.
i looked up the trailer out of mere curiosity, and wow. the set design and costumes remind me of "Goodbye My Princess"…
Thatâs because GBMP was trying to attract FBB, the star of this show so the costuming had to be on point. In the end, PXR was given the role but I feel like FBB (PXR used to be her artist) had enough of a hand in it in the early stages for a groundwork to be laid out. But this level of costuming/set design doesnât really happen anymore in Cdrama, which is a shame.
Yeah, and itâs a shame. It was so high budget and probably going to be gorgeous. I wish they would just release a character cut on Bilibili or something.
Your girl is back with a bang!!! Or should I say âbaaaâđ. Anyway, check out Xiao Ranâs gorgeous (and novel) new photoshoot: https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4949869670958648
Oh, I love that you added this clip. I really enjoy hearing the actors real voices.
The dub really doesnât capture their dynamic. Neither does the director either. The original lines are the only place you can see it well. And thatâs a shame cause itâs such a cute dynamic. Zhu Zan is this big rough fighting guy but heâs a bit strait laced and Jiu Ling is always teasing/catching him off guard/seducing him. Itâs a bit sheâs the cat and heâs the mouse. And about Jin Hanâs wit⊠heâs very good at comedy. In the same episode he has this amazing aggrieved deadpan look after being teased by Jiu Ling. It had me rolling for so long. In fact, I think Iâll go rewatch it again.đ
If youâve got a Weibo account and some spare time, please drop Xiao Ran a little love. She was ill enough for IV treatment a few weeks ago and basically told everyone she was taking a break. Unfortunately, Weibo is Weibo and people are still scolding her studio and now her for not posting much recently. Any well wishes are appreciated. Sheâs not perfect but sheâs too much of a sweetheart to be getting all this drama while sheâs trying to recover.
P.S. Its somehow not posted here but sheâs supposed to have a cameo in the Bamboo Chapter of Demon Fox Matchmaker show. Will posts links if thereâs any updates tomorrow.
It depends on what youâre looking for. If you like the leads a lot then I would give it a try. They have good chemistry and like the previous poster said, the protective and supportive ML trope is really well done without being overbearing. The show has also had some re-editing behind the scenes. I went to rewatch it a few days ago and it is alot different, itâs much smoother and more coherent than when it first aired. The key to remember about the story is that it was chopped up and rearranged (this mostly affects PXR and ZZT) and that it was an enemy to lovers storyline that got cut into a sweet wife storyline. Another big detail is that in the original cut, Bai Lu/Yezi knows what happened to AâRui from the beginning. I think if viewers understand those key points, the show is more enjoyable.
While watching this I discovered that I care a lot about how a male lead looks. I really really wanted to like…
Costume dramas donât necessarily need âhandsome, dreamyâ men. There are basically two kinds. Serious and idol costume dramas. The type youâre referring to is idol dramas which can be both modern and costume and tend to be less serious in all aspects and are more about beauty over acting skills and reliant on the current trend of pretty boys. In serious dramas there is more room because acting is the focus. However, costume dramas do require the performers to be suitable and presentable, which Jun Jiu Lingâs (an idol drama)costuming fails at on all staff. Iâve seen the male lead in Royal Nirvana which has better styling and his look is very charming.

Even though they have a good relationship and he contributed two star drama shows to Xiao Ran, I hope she never works with Xie Ze ever again. He canât capture her beauty nor her acting.
