Title A Legend
Omg Jackie Chan, Lay, Gulnazar, Li Chen and Peng Xiaoran at the same film damn 👏
I’m also excited for Zheng Yecheng. I’m hoping he and Xiao Ran have some rival scenes because they’re both good looking and fantastic artists.

If you knew how much the Chinese audience actively cussed out Xie Ze for this decision
 I really don’t understand…
Tbh, the problem with her acting in the beginning, it had her playing Jiman as a silly white sweet when she’s a royal sister type. Add to this Xie Ze’s inability to shoot her and the dubbing that is sometimes too cartoonish, and the performance feels off. Xiao Ran corrects for this quite quickly though and then it’s not a problem for most of the show. The director

I really don’t understand what showrunners were thinking. The performance is Grad level and the shooting is kindergarten tricks. I’ve heard these shots are done on purpose to cause controversy but honestly why ruin such a good scene? There are plenty of other shots they could have used.

On episode 16: I really hate the SFL. I hate the way she’s written too, so one dimensionally evil without any…
She’s pretty much that way in the book though, and I dare say worse because more time is spent with her but she’s really a very petty character. The drama actually makes her a bit more interesting and a bit plumper than her original ending/setting. Through her, viewers are actually supposed to see how Nie Sangyu progressed into madness, and thus feel less sorry for her because it’s the same path and actions.

The camera work on the cliff scene on episode 1 was terrible. PXR gave so much in that scene and the camera work

If you knew how much the Chinese audience actively cussed out Xie Ze for this decision
I really don’t understand as a director how he could have bore ruining such a shot. It’s easily the most powerful scene in the whole drama and it was the one pulling in viewers initially when they put out promo gifs (sans that bs effect of course). When people leave negative comments about Xiao Ran’s acting in this show, I feel like they must have skipped the opening-that’s her real level. Acting so good you can see the tears, craziness, and despair clearly despite the whole screen bouncing. No wonder Nie Sangyu got diehard fans with like 3 minutes of screen timeđŸ˜©
Even though they have a good relationship and he contributed two star drama shows to Xiao Ran, I hope she never works with Xie Ze ever again. He can’t capture her beauty nor her acting.

Worth to watch?
Depends on what you’re looking for. It’s a character driven romantic comedy about a young couple that’s light on the plot but it’s good for bingeing and easy watching. The actors support most of the show but do a decent job though some viewers don’t like an opinionated FML. Just don’t go in looking for a profound story, elaborate costumes, or a hot and steamy romance.

Was this drama ever released with Subtitles? I would love to watch it but somehow can‘t find it?
No, I don’t ever think it will get subtitles unless there is some massive drive. It was on YouTube but the channel wasn’t able to release an English version and the show was mostly region locked to China. It’s a shame though because it was good for a tribute drama. I liked the first pair so much that I still secretly hope for a 2nd match.

Been a minute since a FL made me fangirl like this! She's everything you want in a FL.
I wish there were more big heroine roles like JJL. I don’t even mind the Mary-Sue aspects. The scene when she has the face-off with Ning Yunzhao’s mom is so cool to me and honestly gave me goosebumps the first time I watched it.

Good actors, terrible characters. This drama got me so mad. I can't watch it anymore. I hate everyone in it.
Haha, it’s definitely a drama that will make a viewer’s blood pressure rise. But that’s why some love it and some hate it😂

Sad ending? No. This is the best satisfying ending i have ever seen.Li cheng yi deserve this. For the first time…
There really isn’t any other kind of ending for this story which is why I think it’s such a brilliant tragedy. They cut off all avenues so it was the best end for this pair and I have never felt such an awful mix of grief and relief in my life or with any other drama since.

Yeah, and it’s a shame. It was so high budget and probably going to be gorgeous. I wish they would just release…
Without censorship approval, they can’t. I think a company tried this and the fall out was big.

Title The Legend of Ba Qing Spoiler
i looked up the trailer out of mere curiosity, and wow. the set design and costumes remind me of "Goodbye My Princess"…
That’s because GBMP was trying to attract FBB, the star of this show so the costuming had to be on point. In the end, PXR was given the role but I feel like FBB (PXR used to be her artist) had enough of a hand in it in the early stages for a groundwork to be laid out. But this level of costuming/set design doesn’t really happen anymore in Cdrama, which is a shame.

was rhis ever shot?
Yeah, and it’s a shame. It was so high budget and probably going to be gorgeous. I wish they would just release a character cut on Bilibili or something.

I really love pics 2 and 5. Xiao Ran is easily a big beauty but she also manages to have such a lovely air of girl next door.

she is one of my favorite actresses. hope she gets a good script, good partner and good producers to do the project.…
I wish for this too. As GBMP and ToDoI have shown, as long as the team cares, she can produce a high quality and beautiful product/role.

Oh, I love that you added this clip. I really enjoy hearing the actors real voices.
The dub really doesn’t capture their dynamic. Neither does the director either. The original lines are the only place you can see it well. And that’s a shame cause it’s such a cute dynamic. Zhu Zan is this big rough fighting guy but he’s a bit strait laced and Jiu Ling is always teasing/catching him off guard/seducing him. It’s a bit she’s the cat and he’s the mouse.
And about Jin Han’s wit
he’s very good at comedy. In the same episode he has this amazing aggrieved deadpan look after being teased by Jiu Ling. It had me rolling for so long. In fact, I think I’ll go rewatch it again.😂

If you’ve got a Weibo account and some spare time, please drop Xiao Ran a little love. She was ill enough for IV treatment a few weeks ago and basically told everyone she was taking a break. Unfortunately, Weibo is Weibo and people are still scolding her studio and now her for not posting much recently. Any well wishes are appreciated. She’s not perfect but she’s too much of a sweetheart to be getting all this drama while she’s trying to recover.

P.S. Its somehow not posted here but she’s supposed to have a cameo in the Bamboo Chapter of Demon Fox Matchmaker show. Will posts links if there’s any updates tomorrow.

is this worth watching?
It depends on what you’re looking for. If you like the leads a lot then I would give it a try. They have good chemistry and like the previous poster said, the protective and supportive ML trope is really well done without being overbearing. The show has also had some re-editing behind the scenes. I went to rewatch it a few days ago and it is alot different, it’s much smoother and more coherent than when it first aired. The key to remember about the story is that it was chopped up and rearranged (this mostly affects PXR and ZZT) and that it was an enemy to lovers storyline that got cut into a sweet wife storyline. Another big detail is that in the original cut, Bai Lu/Yezi knows what happened to A’Rui from the beginning. I think if viewers understand those key points, the show is more enjoyable.

While watching this I discovered that I care a lot about how a male lead looks. I really really wanted to like…
Costume dramas don’t necessarily need “handsome, dreamy” men. There are basically two kinds. Serious and idol costume dramas. The type you’re referring to is idol dramas which can be both modern and costume and tend to be less serious in all aspects and are more about beauty over acting skills and reliant on the current trend of pretty boys. In serious dramas there is more room because acting is the focus. However, costume dramas do require the performers to be suitable and presentable, which Jun Jiu Ling’s (an idol drama)costuming fails at on all staff. I’ve seen the male lead in Royal Nirvana which has better styling and his look is very charming.
